Welcome! You will do a research project by taking a series of research classes with your peers. This way everyone has a timeline and learns the same expectations for research. I'll be taking the first research in the fall, will you? As far as comps, I know last semester students have to participate in "Grand Rounds" where each professor pretends to have a different diagnosis and you have to figure it out.

I was waitlisted for Fall of 2015. I took 6 hours of graduate course work in the fall, retook the GRE, and revamped my essay. I got in. It does happen. Definitely contact the department. They won't tell you where you are the wait list, but they can advice about coursework. Also, applying for Spring cycle is typically less competitive. Good luck!- 18 replies

Waitlist SLP Fall 2016 Applicants
OnceandFutureSpeechGeek replied to Rorororosy's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Had a classmate in our program get off the wait list 3 days before orientation. It does happen. -
Student at Eastern New Mexico University, which has an in person and a distance program. We regularly interact. Distance students attend classes in real time with their peers, and interact with the professors through Skype. Plus, you have to spend your first semester on campus, which allows you to build relationships with your professors and cohort before switching to distance if you choose. We're the only program I know that does distance this way. Let me know if you have questions :-).

I was thinking about creating a facebook group for Spring 2016 questions/updates, roommate ads etc. Would anyone be interested? If you search there is an ENMU CDIS grad students group that is a mix of everyone, but having our own group might come in handy too. -

Congrats slptay! Cheltroy, I'm in the non-degree classes grad classes right now. I have Fluency Disorders with Swift, and Craniofacial with Copple. It's a nice mix. Swift is very tough and knowledgeable. Copple is very straightforward and responsive. Articulation Disprders or Neurogenic Disorders are other options I know of. The classes are online, you watch live on Mediasite and participate with in class students through Skype. There are only 2 other people I know of that are doing this option right now, so I think it shows you are serious. One of them got her acceptance letter yesterday, so it is possible! -

SpeechieMM, you may still get in! Make sure you call Dr. Swift! She can't tell you where you are on the list, but I'm following the instructions she gave me from last semester, they really helped. And then just keep calling to show your interest. I didn't do that last time and I don't think it helped my case. Marissa, Congratulations! I am missing stats and neuroscience, so it is encouraging to hear that they are giving acceptances without all classes completed. I have taken both language science and language assessment from ENMU. Please let me know if you have questions :-). My mailperson still hasn't come yet. -

slptay, No not at all :-). I love sharing info to get a better picture. Being an online student, I feel so cut off from rest of the community. Undergrad gpa: 2.99, Leveling GPA was 3.6 last application, raised to a 3.8. 1st and 2nd GRE: Quant: 146 both times (ouch). Verbal was in the 150s both times, the 2nd time up by 4 points. Essay 4 both times. The essay is quite important from what I hear. I even heard Dr. Swift say in class the other day that they will give it to you again before you leave, to compare before and after responses. GULP. Are you from within the major? If it makes you feel any better, I'm super nervous as well. I'll let you know what I hear! Keep me posted as well! Does anyone know of someone who got accepted after being waitlisted? -

I know of one person who heard yesterday. I should hear tomorrow or Friday, according to the USPS map lol. Last semester I applied to ENMU and K-State. Waitlisted then rejected by ENMU, rejected out right by Kansas State. I took every bit of Dr. Swift's advice, got my GPA up to a 3.8, retook the GREs, and am taking 2 grad classes through ENMU. A tip: If you like ENMU CDIS Program facebook page, they post when the letters go out. Anyone else hear anything today? Good luck!
