  1. @Kalman yes you are right about my low BSc. The basic courses like Physics 1-2, Chemistry etc. destroyed my BSc GPA but even in that low transcript, the courses about control and vibrations are good .Also, I keep MSc about same area and i will apply for PhD in same area, too. My research experience is over industry. Testing and evaluation engineering in automotive and defense industry (including test set-up,Using sensors (accelerometers, load cell etc.) data acquistion, interpreting reports. When will you start to apply?
  2. Amazing. I feel inferior when i see the guys' profiles here What do you think about my profile? Let me ask you a question about my profile. School: Turkey (Top 5 University) GRE: Q:167 V:152 AW=4.5 Toefl:90 IBT GPA: BSc 2.68/4 MsC:3.79/4 Job Experience: 2.5 Years R&D Engineer in Industry. Paper: Only 3 Conference paper (One co-author, one belongs only me and the other 1st author) I dont think to apply top universities. I will apply North Caroline, Virginia Tech, University of Houston, Rutgerts University What do you think about my chance?
  3. @Kalman Mine is Vibrations and Control theory including finite element and continuum vibrations. I am mechanical engineering MSc student but i also apply for Aerospace or Civil Engineering as these topics are mutual. How is your profile? (GPA,GRE etc.)
  4. I will apply north caroline, Texas A&M and Georgia Tech. What is your area specialization?
  5. Very good. They should accept you any school whichever you apply.
  6. thanks you.it is good and satisfying information. In fact, what makes canada appealing to me is that they focus on master degree so much and in admission page they emphasize master degee if you apply for PhD.in other words, they do not want to accept students with bachelor degree to phd directly like america.so my opponents may be less for canada.because my undergrad gpa is below 3 but master gpa around 3.8. In many american universities, for phd application, they say "your bachelor degree should be above 3.0 and gpa above 3.5 etc. They need good gpa both in bachelor and master but when i see the prospectus in canadian university, they say "applicants to phd must have master degree with 3.5 at least or B+ A- something like that. And my another question to you if i do not bother you.Do you think to get admission to university like Texas arlington is easy than mcgill toronto university?
  7. Try group 2.it will be good choice for you but for phd application,LOR is very very important and focus on GRE.your cumulative is pretty good.
  8. if you want to be an academician,i strongly recommend you to try fast-track phd but your chance may be a bit low on Top 10 schools.Good luck
  9. Better do not e-mail professor (i mean if you apply for usa) when i see the FAQ in departmental website, they say that it is better to contact professor after you have completed your application. And you should do it formal way.Do not spam professor.dont start dear professor,i m student and wanna work with you bla bla.. If professor understand your spamming, they will not reply but put in trash box.
  10. Dont worry yes you can but self-funded.if you demonstrate stellar performance, you can get assistanship 2nd term maybe.Try less selective schools and compensate your low undergraduate gpa with strong LOR,SOP and GRE(maybe you are not asked gre as you are us citizen and got your bsc from abet accredited university but take it)
  11. If you want to pursue only master(not fast track phd) you have higher chance to get admitted but do not expect any fellowship not because of your scores but nearly all fellowship is given to phd students.but after you have get admitted on your own(self-funded or any scholarship full-bright etc) you can get any grant or assistantship on second term.i know many people who got admitted to master on their own but got assistantship second term.
  12. Do not worry.you have good potential and you demostrate it.they will look for your most recent gpa and if you publish as 1st author,it will be perfect. They do not consider gpa only.what i suggest ,your chance may be lower on ivy league schools so do not apply ivy leauge and i strongly believe that they can accept you to boston university.they also publish their admission statistics.Check it
  13. Thanks you. Do you think canada is more competitive than usa for phd?
  14. I mean "financial proof of support documents "
  15. So can we not apply to canadian universities if we dont define our monetary status?
