  1. I feel the same way! My personal statement is definitely the thing holding me back from submitting my apps. I keep pushing working on it on the back-burner, because I'm struggling with it as well. I have a slightly different version for each school, and for the ones that don't specify length they're about 830-930 words.
  2. I am from NY but not an IC undergrad, so I'm not sure about my chances. I know they automatically admit their undergrads if they apply and have a 3.7 GPA or higher, so I'm thinking that's why the application is so simple and short and why they're not asking for additional materials like resume or personal statement... so I'm assuming they're just going off GPA/GRE/letters of rec?! But it also is less work for me on the application side..
  3. I'm not applying to St. Rose but it was on my list at one point! Based on your stats, don't get discouraged! In my opinion you're a competitive applicant, it's not all about the GPA, but then again I'm not an admissions expert. I'm from NY so I know a lot of people that apply to St. Rose with average stats. Usually in your personal statement is your chance to address GPA if you want to, and some schools require it if your GPA is lower than their minimum. I don't think, personally, I would email a school asking if I was a competitive applicant, I would just put as much effort as I could into making my application the strongest it can be. What you could do instead of telling St. Rose they're your number one and coming across as pushy, is explaining in your personal statement why you think St. Rose is the best fit for you and why you'd make a good student there.
  4. I'm applying to Ithaca for this cycle!
  5. I don't think that's low, it's all personal preference! I was going to apply to 7, then I narrowed it down to 5. I took off schools that I wouldn't really want to go to if I got in. I'm applying all in-state as well. I was going to do one out of state, but the debt would not be worth it.
  6. Hey I'm a Psychology minor! Haha but I think a research section would look great! In my "professional development" section I included an independent study I did with a professor, which involved research. I wouldn't worry though, the resume is only one part of the application and like you said it's optional for some of your schools.. your personal statement is where you can relate your research or experiences to the field if you want... In my opinion pretty much everything in Psychology is relevant!
  7. I made the resume I'm using specifically for grad school, so it is a lot different than the resume I've used for employement. I've been given the advice not to include an objective, so I think you've got the right idea! My headings are in order: education, accolades/honors, certifications, related experience (where I included some employment that is relevant to the field,) professional development, leadership, other involvement & volunteer experience, and then other (non-related) employment breifly at the end. Also, I think you could list your enrollment in Utah state in your education section. Hope this helps!
  8. It depends on what you're looking for in a program! There are a ton of programs in NY (26 I think), I'm applying to 5. My GRE score is pretty much the same as yours on all parts give or take a point, and for all the school's I'm applying to, my scores are within their range. Only one of my schools is on CSDCAS but I do believe you have to enter every course on CSDCAS and then mail the official transcript as well.
  9. I think you should consider asking a professor who can attest to your contributions in class, or what kind of student you are, not just your grade! I only have asked two professors within major, and I plan on asking one professor from the Psychology (my minor) department. Even though it's not a CDS professor, I have taken 3 heavily discussion and critical thinking based courses with her and I know I contributed a lot. You don't want your letter of rec to make it seem like you were just a number in their class! And I agree with CBG321, make sure you ask if they're comfortable writing a strong or positive letter.
  10. I think it depends on where you're applying. For most of the schools I'm applying, 147-148 is their minimum. Of course it would be ideal to increase your scores, but if they don't, just make sure the rest of your application is as strong as possible!
  11. I am getting ready to graduate in December! I'll be applying for Fall 17 I'm looking mostly in NY, at SUNY Fredonia, New Paltz, Plattsburgh, University at Buffalo, Buffalo State, and Nazareth. Also looking at University of Virginia for something different! Taking my GRE in September, just working on studying for that so far.
