To anyone accepted to UCSD, you should ask your department to nominate you for SHORE (priority on-campus housing). Rent in San Diego is crazy, so getting a 2 bedroom for $1200 is insanely affordable for the area. If you don't have priority housing, you typically have to wait 12+ months for an on-campus apartment. SHORE also gives you a month-to-month lease that lasts for your estimated time to degree plus one year (for example, MA is 2 years + 1 extra = 3 total years).
Living on campus is "cheap" and convenient. It's really difficult to find a parking spot on campus, so the campus shuttle is a life saver. I have a faculty parking pass (so I pay ~$100/month and can park in ANY spot), and I still have to circle the lots for 30+ minutes sometimes.

I haven't heard back from any program, so I'm emotionally preparing myself to be shut out. I'm ready for 'em!

Can we talk about the GRE please? ETS makes so much money off of us. They know that most of us are applying to more than four schools (sometimes 10, 14, 17...). $27 to send scores electronically is absolute garbage.

It would be complete anarchy without fees though. Every department would be inundated with even more applications. Think about that time sink.

Talking about anarchy. I propose a "trial by combat" option to replace the GRE.

I'm still on the wait list at Tennessee. They told me that the person they are waiting on has until April 19 to make her decision. We're in the same boat!

I contacted CUNY first thing this morning to decline my offer, so I hope someone gets some good news today if not tomorrow!

Holy expletive. After four months of anxiety, I finally got my answer: Accepted at UConn off the waitlist (English Ph.D. with Rhet/Comp research specialization, full funding for six years). I'm completely overwhelmed. I got an email about fifteen minutes ago, followed by a phone call from the DGS (what a genuinely nice conversation that was). Now all that's left is to wait for my wife to get home so we can have the discussion we've been putting off because it hasn't been real until just now.
Thanks to everybody who's shared their experiences over the last four years that I've been a lurker/member. This group has made the entire process bearable.
Just FYI, if anybody's still waiting on UConn, the DGS said that they had an "crazy (unusually crazy) admissions cycle" with a lot of people not responding to their initial offers until the last second. He said my email was the first of three that would be going out. Best of luck to anybody still waiting.

UTK told me that I would have a different deadline besides April 15 (at least a week or two) if I got accepted off of the wait list at this point. I don't think I could sign up for 5+ years without visiting.

@Elisajoy90 and @katie64 I'm next in line for a RWL PhD spot (acceptance and funding) at UTK. Leanne Hinkle said that they would notify asap if anything changed during the weekend.

I'm officially staying at Miami of Ohio to pursue my PhD in comp/rhet! ?
I am soooo excitedddd, and I feel such a weight lifted off me now that I've decided. I feel seriously so much less stressed. This process stretched out for quite a long time because I just didn't know what I wanted... Until I did, and until I realized I already had it all along (*insert cliché feels*).
    I'm ready to start PhDing!!!!!

After a stellar campus visit and a decent funding offer, I officially accepted at Syracuse University's MA in Composition and Rhetorical Studies! Nervous to move up north for two years but excited about the cohort and the faculty.

I've decided to officially accept Vanderbilt's offer of admission. I just got back from Ole Miss and while the program and people are even better than you can imagine, (seriously, if anyone in the future wants to talk about Patrick Alexander or Cristin Ellis, hit me up) Oxford is not ideal. So I am going to be accepting Vanderbilt's offer and becoming a...I don't actually know what Vanderbilt's mascot is, but it's not a "rebel" so that's a plus.

Ok, just about to formally accept my offer from UW-Madison! This process has been something else, and I'm so glad it's over.
Best wishes to everyone here with grad studies/whatever else you end up doing!

Got off the waitlist at one of the four schools I'm waitlisted at, so may be making a visit next week. It's kind of down to the wire at my top choice and looking like it could go either way. Aghhh.

Got an email from the DGS at Purdue this morning asking if I was still interested because they "may be able to make an additional offer soon."
I don't know if this means I'm first-in-line for this offer (I'm assuming/hoping this is the case) or if they're just scoping out the remaining pool of applicants, but it seems like progress either way! I also don't know if "soon" means the next few days or just sometime before the 15th. Either way, fingers crossed this works out, because I never thought I'd be admitted to Purdue & would be thrilled to attend there.

There are still plenty of people out there holding on for the waitlist, including myself! I'm sure most of us are just being silent because according to my professors, the real movement happens in that final run up to April 15th and even – ugh – after April 15th.

Can I just jump in and complicate this by saying that the winter in Minnesota sucks but it's not always like that. It's the land of 10,000 lakes and those lakes aren't always frozen. Fall, spring, and summer are great in Minnesota. The people are the nicest you'll ever meet. It's a great school. Minneapolis actually has a lot of culture.
The faculty/course work/funding at Washington seem like huge red flags to me (no matter how much you like Seattle).
I think it should come down to Minnesota and USC. In that case, the funding is better at USC and your main reason to not pick that school is that you're bored with LA.
My two cents as an observer with absolutely no consequences.

Double post: That said, when my husband had the choice of a fellowship offer at UCLA or a TAship with on campus housing at UCSD, we chose UCSD because we hate LA and the traffic/higher rent.
    I guess I'm team Minnesota.
