Hey so sorry for just seeing this! The question they asked was "Why are you planning to continue graduate school right after your undergrad?" and I said "well I think it would behoove me to continue my education as I feel as though there are more people I can touch and more individuals I can help through my art." I was only interviewed by two people and one was the dean of the program. How did your New Genres interview go!?

Awesome! I had my interview for Sound Arts last Monday and they told me I'd hear within a week; I also missed a call from NY this morning but when I called back it was spam lol so I'm kind of freaking out hahahaha. Nonetheless I'm amazingly happy for you. Congrats.- 2,106 replies

You can totally pay for one (and or more) of your accepted schools and then inform them that you have had a change of heart (for whatever reason you choose to disclose) it's just that I assume that's an expensive decision to turn back on as most acceptence fees are around 700-1000$. I would perhaps contact the school and ask for an extension first because usually that fee can not be refunded. :/- 2,106 replies

I'm currently at CalArts and for the School of Art and the School of Film and Video they take a while to send out letters due to the volume of students and how talented everyone is; so don't worry it's only taking a while because you've got a great portfolio; I'm sure.- 2,106 replies

Woah CONGRATS! You're killin' in My friend that just applied to USC for his Experiemental Animation MFA just got in as well; USC is a fantastic school (my girlfriend studied there) so that's already super awesome. UCSC I don't know much about but have heard great things; and NYU is also a fantastic school (I applied for my undergrad but ultimately went to CalArts for Music Technology). If you pick NYU Let's meet up (if I get into Columbia) hahaha- 2,106 replies

Anyone else get an interview with Columbia Sound Arts MFA? I just had mine this morning and there was a time mix-up (they said 3PM but meant east coast time and I'm in California) so it moved to a phone interview but the actual conversation went SUPER well so I'm trying not to stress too much. Already got into two programs at Calarts for my MFA so I might double major but Columbia is my number one. Congrats to everyone and if there are any other Sound Artist here I'd love to know where you applied. Best of luck to everyone else too.- 2,106 replies

Anyone else interview with Columbia Sound Arts MFA faculty? Just had mine this morning and it was supposed to be a Skype one but when they said 3PM since I'm on the west coast I was literally in class and they called me and we moved it to a phone interview (holy shit that was nerve-wracking). Nonetheless the interview went super well and apparently one of my answers to their questions was "the best answer they've ever heard" so I'm staying positive. Best of luck to everyone! <3

Just had my phone interview with Columbia for Sound Art (wasn't sure if that worked for a music thread but thought I'd post it) Interview went well and they stated decisions will go out by next week.

You're not hopeless although I understand why you may feel that way. From January to literally today I was like "there's no way columbia is even gunna think twice about my portfolio" and I just received an email for an interview this morning. Don't freight. Whatever/wherever you're supposed to be is right around the corner. You are so much more than a rejection or an acceptance. Keep your head up, because clearly by this thread you've got a support system in all of us.

Is it a bad sign that I got my rejection letter this early?
Kamari replied to peter_emrys's topic in Waiting it Out
Well I'll tell ya one thing. cynicism will make things much more difficult. The whole application process is out of our hands if we're going to speak honestly so at the very least we can wishfully muster faith and believe in the very best. Whatever happens, has happened for a reason; and try not to count yourself out. -
Hey all, So I'm happy beyond belief to have been admitted to one of my top choices for graduate school but I'm an idiot and got myself admitted into both programs I applied to at the institution. I applied to two MFA programs at CalArts which are ESP (Experimental Sound Practices) and Art and Technology. I'm painfully awaiting a response from Columbia but I just wanted to ask... has anyone double majored in grad school and if so how was it? I know that a plethora of programs offer you a "focus" that might be a bit different than your field of study, but I have an interest in both programs so I'm interested in the idea of trying to tackle a double major.

I know it's much easier said than done, but have faith and keep your head up! You've still got some other institutions to wait on and I'm sure good news is on the way. -
I didn't see this posted here so I thought I'd make mention of it. I posted about Columbia University weeks ago but my major is pretty specific and I don't believe of the people who viewed it that anyone else applied to the same program (which it totally cool). Anyway; I was reading an article the other day about Columbia sending out 276 Acceptance letters to their prospective graduate students that applied to the Mailman School of Public Health on their campus... only to receive an email an hour later saying "Oops... this was an error" which totally made my heart hurt. I'm over here stressing because I haven't heard anything but could you imagine that golden ticket email just to have it swiped from your hands!? Edit: I didn't apply to the program so I'm not nearly as heavily effected as some of my friends who did, I just thought the story was interesting (and... pretty disheartening). Anyway, I hope you're all doing well. I'll link the article. NYT: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/17/nyregion/columbia-grad-school-acceptance-letters.html

One year a long time ago, there were penguins who didn't wear hats when swimming. This made their mothers livid. "Unacceptable!" Frightened, they screamed, "Bears!" Nobody seemed convinced so instead of going swimming they tried juggling. Their mothers tried everything they thought would teach her a skill. However, she couldn't even make oatmeal without disastrous results. So, the penguins gathered money (obviously) trying to purchase a bear. Towering over them, a grizzly beast danced, devouring all bears with such ferocity that even God enjoyed it. Afterwards, God congratulated the penguins and applauded them. "You did it!" Suddenly, the grizzly beast started dancing vigorously. There was an acromantula nearby. It challenged the preconception that magical mushrooms were magical. Sparkling, the magical mushrooms were spreading throughout town. Nobody with pyromania thought grilled cheese would spontaneously erupt into nine identical squirrels! Nevertheless, the penguins elucidated the benefits of sparkling water from Iceland. Suddenly, Iceland exclaimed, "Enough!!! No more penguins. Kill all of the arcades on Monday because King Arthur suffered from sphenisciphobia." Tragically, everyone forgot lasers cure bug madness, meaning none of them stripped the violet beast of his powerful jaw bones. So while some arms spouted Kool-aid, others chopped nuts. This phenomenon halted commerce. Together twenty-five yellow dragons danced sporadically inebriating all anger gods, while academics drank champagne profusely. Who were they? Snotty undergrads eating free Tetrahydrocannabinol Chlorate. Homicidal kittens emerged from congressional hearings purring rhythmic improvised melodies, infuriating the associate professors who stripped them intermittently of all credentials. The incredulous kittens meowed like dragons farts. Except Bruno, who mewed like tinkling bells. Understandably, one chicken farted. Then, surreptitiously, two giraffes killed the conspicuous dragon. Audaciously, someone belched "RAWR!" Startled, four punks flew down from the Appalachian, a bit wide-eyed, and jumped
