  1. I believe UT Dallas has fall, spring, AND summer admissions!
  2. I just made a facebook group for the Fall 2019 SLP cohort!! Search "TAMUK M.S. SLP Class of 2021" or go to: https://www.facebook.com/groups/653787751725332/ We can get to know each other before classes start, find roommates, and help each other out
  3. I was an in-field applicant without any internships or research experience either and have been accepted to 2 schools so far. Those things look great but definitely not required! Many applicants both CSD majors and out of field dont have those experiences and get into school just fine. Just be sure to have some sort of volunteer experiences/student org involvement/good GPA and GRE or something to stand out, it definitely doesn't have to be an internship or research!
  4. I agree with that! I'm in the same boat you're in waiting for Texas state to just reject or waitlist me or something because I know they accepted some people already. But yeah I didn't like that they extended the deadline at the end after many of us worked to meet that original deadline
  5. Hey, I was accepted last month but I saw someone saying on the results page (I believe) that they accepted one group of people and are waiting for our April 15th deadline to respond before accepting the next round of students! So dont lose hope yet!! ?
  6. I was accepted on the 11th I believe. I also applied before the original deadline. I originally declined the offer due to cost, but then they called me and have been really trying to work with me on the financial issue because it sounded like they really wanted me to go there - they said my scores were really impressive and didn't want to put me on the decline list just yet since they have opportunities that can help me with the cost. I say this not to seem braggy, but am thinking maybe they accepted like their top choices early and then are waiting on those decisions before doing their next round of acceptances. I haven't seen anyone mention being waitlisted or rejected either so I'm sure there will be more acceptances to come! Best of luck!!
  7. I'll most likely decline my spot at University of Montevallo very soon. I really liked the program when I visited for my interview, so I hope this helps someone else enjoy the program!!
  8. Yes that's exactly how mine is too, and I also emailed them a couple months ago to make sure it was okay! Guess they're just taking a while. I know their deadline was later than the other places I applied.
  9. I have been accepted to a school that I applied to out of state, and today I emailed declining the offer stating that I wouldn't be able to swing the out of state cost. Well, they called me after receiving my email and left a voicemail saying to call her back and that there might be an option for me. I know that this school does have a scholarship for new grad students that allows them to pay in-state tuition for the first year. So I am thinking this may along the lines of what she will offer me. If that is the case, I don't necessarily still want to decline but I also don't want to accept right away either. The reason for that being that I've been accepted to another out of state school that has offered me a scholarship for in state tuition as well, and I really like that program, but even there with in state tuition is still way more expensive than if I'd go to my current undergrad school. BUT I've been waitlisted at my current undergrad. Ughhhh I'm grateful to have options but it's also so hard to decide and weigh everything out! What I'm getting at with the title is when I call her back if she offers me an in-state tuition scholarship I'm likely to tell her that I no longer want to officially decline, but don't officially want to accept yet either. I feel like this sounds bad though, so I was wondering if it'd be inappropriate to briefly explain why I might seem "wishy washy" - needing to calculate and compare the costs between there and the other out of state school I'm accepted to, weigh it out, etc. I want to just be up front about that, but at the same time I feel like it'd also be bad to mention other schools at all. However, I have a tendency to overthink things like this so I'm just curious what some of you that might be a bit more level-headed in this kind of situation think would be the best way to respond?
  10. Has anyone heard from Valdosta, or happen to know when they might get decisions out? I've seen from posts in the past people mentioning their status changing to "under review" or something along those lines and mine does not say that yet.
  11. I got an email yesterday that I was waitlisted. Someone else I know said she got accepted yesterday so I imagine you should hear soon if you didn't today!
  12. Hey! I interviewed last week and I was terrified! It's pretty quick ~15 mins or so depending how much you say of course. Honestly, just think about why you want to go there, what your interests are, your strengths and weaknesses, experiences etc. and be prepared to talk about those things. It's pretty straightforward - they don't throw any crazy curveball questions at you so don't worry! You'll do great and be done with it before you know it!!
  13. I just was offered an interview at the University of Montevallo in a couple weeks...I'm curious if anyone here has interviewed there before and if so, what was your experience?
  14. Just a clarifying question - Recommenders submit one letter on CSDCAS and that letter is sent to each of the programs on CSDCAS, is that correct? One of my professors wants information about who to address his letters to, etc. and I just wanted to make sure for the CSDCAS programs, it'd just be a general salutation since it's sent to multiple schools.
  15. Sorry I hadn’t caught that thread before I posted! Thanks though that’s very helpful
  16. Last year I took a free practice test on CrunchPrep (before doing any study for the GRE) and got 147V / 155Q / 4.5AWA. I was going to start studying then so I could take the GRE pretty early and get it out of the way, but didn't really end up doing that. Aside from studying a little bit of vocab on and off with the Magoosh app, I haven't done much yet. So I just took another diagnostic practice test to double check where I'm starting at again using one of the free PowerPrep ones. Interestingly, I got 156V / 154Q on that one. My Quant obviously is about the same on both but my Verbal on the PowerPrep one is surprisingly higher. I'm wondering if anyone has done the PowerPrep AFTER doing their studying and shortly before taking the real test and how good of a prediction it was of your real score. Ay feedback on how either of these tests compared to your real scores would be appreciated! I'm just trying to gauge how heavily exactly I need to study for Verbal since there's a big difference in the two practice tests.
  17. Is anyone familiar with OLLU’s SLP program? I’m not super into private schools but seems like their program may be good, their outcome data numbers are good and it’s exactly where I’d ultimately like to be when I graduate. I haven’t looked really in depth into the program yet so I’m just curious if anyone is in the program or has toured it or anything and could give a little bit of insight.
  18. Well I've already figured out one long term commitment volunteer opportunity that I definitely want to take up. It's not necessarily related to the field, but would certainly build my "people skills" up which is important I feel. I still have ~1.5 yrs before applying so I'll have plenty of time building that experience. I also got on the sign up list for my schools Advocates for Exceptional Children group which does a lot of volunteer events for special needs kids so that can probably add at least something to my app as well. Then I think I'll do what I said before about shadowing a lot in various settings to get an idea of what each is like. Of the schools I've looked at so far they didn't really say anything on their sites about volunteer or shadowing experience so I really hadn't thought about it until I saw people on here mentioning all their experience so then I started panicking a little lol
  19. @Crimson Wife Well I think that is why they referred to it as "the icing on the cake"...without it they are all the same cake. I was not dismissing it either, as I still want to gain plenty of volunteer experiences not only for the app but for myself as well to figure out what populations/settings I would like; but I was concerned because I've seen other types of programs with actual requirements for at least a certain amount of volunteer hours so I was wondering if there was something in particular I should strive for in an slp program. I'm still trying to figure out what all goes into a strong application so that I can have one when it comes time to apply. Thanks all for the input, it helps!
  20. @Crimson Wife @Elska @speechstudent300 So upon finding and reading another thread from last year with a somewhat similar question, it seems that I don't really need to worry about having a million hours of volunteer and shadowing experience. Most everyone on that thread said it is more the icing on the cake of your application, and then of course having those experiences gives you something to drive your SoP (and to determine if it's really the field you want to be in). So that is helpful. I was stressing about it because it seems like a lot of people on here have been able to work in a directly related area for a good period of time , volunteered at a bunch of different summer camps and all kinds of other things and I really don't have all those experiences. I'm thinking maybe I can observe and/volunteer at a pediatric clinic or school over fall semester, and an adult setting in spring, then maybe a medical setting over summer to get an idea of different areas of the field. Then I can still do some of those small, few hours here and there activities with NSSLHA and AEC. Im just hoping to be a strong applicant!!
  21. Thanks y'all that is all helpful information. I guess I don't need to worry too much about it then. I thought there might be a section where you list volunteer work or something. @Elska so if I shadowed an SLP long-term but didn't necessarily get much hands-on "volunteer" experience with them, is that still good?
  22. I've realized that I need to get my butt in gear in terms of accumulating volunteer hours! But how much is enough when applying to grad school? Currently I only have about 20 hours under my belt but they aren't related to anything I could apply to speech (some city cleanup and some at the Everglades). Anyways, I'm definitely joining my schools NSSLHA next semester and probably the schools Advocates for Exceptional Children group as well, both of which I know will have many volunteer opportunities available. Would work with these organizations be enough or should I also do some kind of long term volunteering somewhere outside of these organizations as well? Ugh I'm stressing out and I'm not even applying yet. How many hours did you have on your application and what kind of experiences did you have?
