Yes! I feel like I could've had a shot at a few programs I was interested in, but crossed off at the last minute because I was freaking out about whether or not it would be worth the risk.

So this is my application status: Your file has been forwarded to the department for an admission recommendation. It has been like this for a couple of months now. I don't know if this is good or bad because I turned in the application two weeks before the deadline and within 5 days, the application status changed from "complete" to "University evaluating file for preliminary eligibility" to what I have written above. Should I be excited or nervous?

PsychedSloth replied to citrus00's topic in Waiting it Out
Field/Program: MA Psychology- Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience, MPH - Social and Behavioral Sciences, MHS - Addictions Studies, and a few post-baccalaureate programs Schools: SDSU, UNR, Governors State University, IUPUI, Ohio State, Northwestern Status? All of my programs are under review right now, except one. I was accepted to the MHS - Addictions Studies program back in August! It had rolling admissions and I applied early. -

What will you do if you get your first acceptance letter?
PsychedSloth replied to littlemy's topic in Waiting it Out
I screamed at work in front of my supervisor and posted it on social media. If I get into my top choice program, I'll cry uncontrollably and buy ALL the orange chicken. -
What were you doing when you received your acceptance?
PsychedSloth replied to YA_RLY's topic in Waiting it Out
Mine wasn't all that exciting. I was working multiple jobs over summer and my phone kept vibrating, but I couldn't answer it while I was helping people. It vibrated a few more times, so I knew I'd have a voicemail, but the acceptance email came while I was talking to my supervisor and I screamed. She asked me what happened and I told her I got into graduate school. She was excited for me because I'm a first generation student. -
Totally understand how you feel! I had one December deadline, but they probably won't release a decision until early-mid March. My other program has a deadline in mid-April, but they had a priority deadline for financial aid in December. All of my backup plans have March 1st deadlines. I don't think I'll hear anything until March or April... possibly later.

I'm trying to stop logging into application portals, but I just can't.

Is there enough data for Master of Public Health and/or Master's Psychology? Thanks for doing these! They're very interesting to look at.

Yes, they are the same thing. Good luck!

My program applications are under review right now, so I've been emailing my back up plan programs like crazy to make sure everything is in order because two of them don't have online checklists or portals that I can check. Once everything has been received, the waiting game will intensify. I think my program decisions will come out between early-mid March and mid-late April.

Go for your dream school! You can always apply for external fellowships. You don't want to end up in the position of going to the cheaper school and then pondering the "what if's." That could be detrimental to your success as a graduate student if it gets the best of you.

This! My best friend thinks I'm going to get accepted to all the schools I applied to and I know that won't be the case. I just wish close friends/family could empathize.

Can confirm! Lots of quirky people are in neuroscience (nothing wrong with that).

Thanks! I'm still in freak out mode because I think this backup plan will become my main goal. I don't think I'll get into SDSU's MA Psychology-Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience program. I won't know anything until late February/early March.
-
Definitely this! I had a list of 15 schools to start with and only applied to a handful of them because they were so expensive.

The thought worries me! At least if it does happen, I'll have a better idea of what to expect and plan accordingly.
