  1. Yup, without a doubt. I will be on vacation come mid-February, so I hope I hear SOMETHING from Berkeley by then whether it's a yay or nay.
  2. Ah, okay. Many others have stated most incoming interviews or decisions have been social for the most part. The results board shows that as well. I guess we will wait together Good luck with your interview for UCI!
  3. Anyone else apply to Berkeley or Stanford? Based on the results board, Berkekely seems to notify people around the end of January/Early Feb, but I don't know if the POI or GAO send out interview requests or some kind of communication.
  4. Berkeley? Which department? I know for certain the department I applied to hasn't finished and doesn't get to it for a few more days/weeks.
  5. stage fright
  6. I wanna cry. This is TOO much to handle. Since I don't feel as though I'll receive any interviews or acceptance, I thought this process wouldn't be as agonizing.
  7. I keep getting stupid emails from other departments or schools with deceiving subject titles. My heart aches every time I finished reading the title. Actually anytime I see a bold 1 or 2 in Gmail, I freak out. I can't stand it.
  8. Yes, I agree. I am not relying on this page alone for my chances :). I do find it interesting though especially knowing Berkeley is keen on selecting a few students that all faculty can work and consult with. @bma Yes, Amherst does have a terminal master as does Stanford. Moreover, Amherst at one time had an MA-PhD track program. It's not explicitly stated on the website anymore, so I'm not sure if it still exists.
  9. Stanford- all sections are not reported Berkeley- Accepted and acceptance rate not reported. Applied-247 Enrolled-11 UMass Amherst- 8% lol- 117 applied, 10 accepted. Whelp.......
  10. @Adelaide9216 how are you coping in your program? @lemma how do you plan to cope once you're admitted into your program? I'm currently on medication, which I wasn't while I was in undergrad, it has been working well. I had several breakdowns and panic attacks during my undergrad and was in depressive periods quite often. I just wonder if it'll be a hindrance. I confided in one of POI because they asked and said ti will confidential. I just don't wanna experience anything like that again because it would affect so much. Do you two ever worry about that?
  11. There are hardly any posts about Berkeley. I am well aware of it's close proximity to Oakland, but where are the current or former Cal Berkeley students at? Where did you live? What would you suggest for newcomers? What is the culture like? I have visited Berkeley one. It was INCREDIBLY cramped and made me anxious. However, this was way before I traveled to metropolitan and cities around the world that are way more compact and overcrowded. I loved it's diversity though.
  12. Anyone else dealing with chronic/metal illnesses?
  13. @khigh Oh, wow, you've had a lot of experience in CRM! That's great to hear :). Lol, I know all about sorting hundreds of things: rocks, beads, shells you name it! Yeah, sorting through a collection from decades ago with valuable artifacts with absolutely NO context is a pain, but worth it as you learn a lot. Hmm, well I am not focusing on NA archaeology in grad school, but I have experience working on a reservation doing survey and excavation with human remains. I also volunteered at the Southwest Museum in Los Angles and helped sort a collection from a few decades ago. All of my jobs in CRM, USFS and a private firm, dealt with NA settlements or areas of inhabitance. All of the artifacts were lithic or pottery shards, BRM, lithic tools, pit houses and etc. I have worked in the southwest, Mojave desert and along the southern coast of California. If that qualifies me, then please do let know more :). It has been a while but once I sit down and review, I'll be good to go.
  14. I plan on working in the applied sector of my field. I don't view that as a bad thing because I will NOT have that options for several years and it has been nearly 4 years since I last worked in the field. I have a had a 9-5 in an office for too long. I wanna get down and dirty and sleep in tents and have a little bit of fun. I guess working in my field would be different from others that would suggest sleeping, having fun or resting up. We shall see. I will only three months, if I get in, before my program starts anyway.
  15. Oops, how stupid of me. I will delete the reply. Thank you
  16. Yeah, I keep refreshing as well. It seems as if especially tempting for us. The survey results mainly consist of people from physical science or humanities...rarely see an anthro or arch until several posts ( or years) deep.
  17. @Bschaefer ah, okay. I had just over an hour long Skype interview with my POI back in September. Seeing as they took around 4 months to actually have time for it, I guess I wouldn't receive a yay or nay from them right away. Congrats either way! Should I view my Skype chat as an interview? I'm not sure. Is it your top choice? It is my top choice as a historical archaeologist.
  18. I just saw on the survey page someone already received an interview via email from The University Of Massachusetts Amherst. Please, come forward, haha! I also applied and submitted a while ago in Septemeber. My last LOR was submitted on January 1st. The app deadline isn't until Jan 15th. How have you already received an interview invite?
  19. This thread gave me SOME hope. It's so nice hearing other peoples experience. Thank you! I have a 3.2 and have a terrible quant score on the GRE of 142 to be exact. I've been out of school since 2013. I worked in the applied sector of my field for three seasons and have lived taught, and volunteered in Asia for over 3 years now. I have three strong references regarding my academic and professional experience as well as my abilities as a teacher. I am 100 percent okay with doing an MA program or trying to gain some independent research or skills once I get a rejection. I am more worried about the board laughing at my application once they receive it, lol. At least I'll look good if I do stellar in my MA program. Nice to read others struggled with mental illnesses. Mental illness affected me for sure. I had no idea I was bipolar and suffered from social anxiety until after graduation. It made me have a breakdown midway through my studies.
  20. @phyanth @AnthroPhDHopeful I'm in the same position although I'm still not sure about hitting the submit button for a few MA programs. Time will HOPEFULLY fly faster then we think...
  21. I did something that others may view as big no-no and would like some feedback. Long story short, my POI at the school I applied to took a liking to me, like A HUGE liking for me. They were offering me this and that, but this was before I told them about my GPA and mental illness struggle haha. Anyway, my card wasn't working online to pay the app fee, I live abroad and these things happened, so I hastily uploaded everything and had to ask around to find a card that worked. I realized I did not upload the proper personal history paper. I emailed the graduate affairs guy, but receive no response. I emailed my POI and they suggested to send the PDFS. Based on the response I receive from my POI and the admissions affairs guy should I worry at all? Every school has different guidelines and I asked if I was overstepping my boundaries as a potential candidate. Everything was received well. I don't know though...
  22. Haha, thanks but its okay if I don't receive any offers from the Ph.D. programs. I'm from California too. Arent, you worried about non-resident fees? That's weird about not emailing POI at Boston.
  23. @GreenEyedTrombonist Wow, I would be excited and scared at the same time, haha. I read about your first acceptance! Congrats on that. I have mentioned before I don't expect to receive any acceptance letters from these top programs ( Amherst MAYBE)), that's not a cushion lol, but I wanna know NOW and receive feedback from my main POI. They started sorting and organizing apps after Dec 1, return on Jan 9th. I feel like an email for an interview would be sent out mid-January, if they do interviews at all. Oregon University used to be at the top of my list for anthropology program because of it's holistic and applied approach, but I'm assuming your intended program will be different? I found NONE of the faculty members had research related to mine. It seems to be a sociocultural, medicinal and bioarch dominated program. I heard Boston U is expensive, but their university states Ph.D. candidates receive funding. hmmmmm
  24. Unfortunately decided to look at the survey/results page....... UMass Amherst has a deadline of Jan 15th but reports back pretty early around the beginning of Feb. Berkeley sends outs emails mid to end of Feb ..Stanford around mid-Feb-March. Feb will be here soon. I still have to finish my MA applications which I have no worries about
  25. I asked the professor I want to work with in the future because I'm like 75% sure I won't get into to their Ph.D. atm. They are the creme de la creme in Anthropology and they stated it doesn't matter what the degree actually has spelled out: an applied masters degree vs a thesis degree. I think you should just ask if you are very worried
