I'm sorry this happened to you and you're still dealing with the effects of it. I have a friend in grad school that has really bad anxiety, and he got a weighted/gravity blanket to sleep better. He says it helps a lot. I'm in the process of making one for myself (because I didn't want to pay for one and because crafting is therapeutic for me in its own way), I've been having pretty bad insomnia lately and I'm hoping it will do the trick.
Good luck!

That's the main difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist. The former have medical degrees and spend most of their time treating patients through medication. Psychologists will use a variety of other forms of therapy. They might have an MA or PhD, but not an MD, and they won't deal with drugs nearly as much. Other counsellors may be trained as social workers, for example. This all means that these professionals have different trainings and perspectives on how to deal with patients, and you may find that one technique (or therapist) suits you better than another. It's a process of trial and error to find the right combination that works for you.

What was valuable to me:
-1TB hard drive to back up to
-Bookcase (you accrue a crap ton of books)
-Scanner (why have a filing cabinet when you can have a digital one that takes up no space at all)
-Google Docs account (20GB for $5 a year ain't bad when you can access it anywhere)
-Laptop (unless you are really stationary or you need the extra power of a desktop)
-Alcohol (lots of it)
-Specific hardbound notebooks (I use Black 'n' Reds) individually for taking notes in seminars and notes from meeting with the boss. It helps for refering back to stuff.
-Digital recorder for class
-Dry erase/combo corkboard (I leave myself profanity-laced messages in the morning so at least I'll smile when I get back home)
-Sleeping Bag (one day shall come when you are working O/N at school so be prepared for it shall come and it shall come quickly)

if you haven't already bought this book, it is a very handy resource, from the application process through completion.

external hard drive to back up your collection of papers, data, etc.
flash drive - useful for sharing larger files with colleagues, carrying presentations, etc.
a dry erase board and markers - mount it on the wall, it'll make your life wonderful (sort of).

I have been having radio silence from one school. The application status reads pending. But looks like they haven't sent out acceptances/rejections/interviews yet. No one has posted about anything. At this point, I'm just hoping its a wait list and not a rejections. God, the wait is exhausting.

YOU GUYS. I GOT IN!!!
I was sitting on 5 rejections and 1 waitlist (for my top choice school) with very little communication about what was happening with the adcomm. I got a phone call from my POI today and they said I was their first choice (they did not extend an offer to anyone else) and that the reason for the delay/waitlist was that they had a lot to figure out internally. I'm still waiting on the official letter with the funding offer, but I'm so excited, and relieved, and a little bit in shock. This late in the game, I had more than prepared myself for applying again next year. Holy wow.
This thread was a life-saver for me throughout the wait process; I appreciate it so much.

haspeer got a reaction from Lucy22 in I am getting grumpy since I have been waiting for the final result for almost 1 month
The last email I got said 4-6 weeks...today marks the end of 6 weeks since that email?

Oh my God...waiting for the two schools I've been waitlisted at is killing me. I was told offers went out but no one's even posted about either schools on the Results page. I can't tell if that means a lot of people are rejecting them or if the people accepted are waaaaay too confident to be sitting on GradCafe lmao (not a jab at us...more to them. lol). I'm praying the funded program offers an interview. PRAYING.

I have gone from "I will never get accepted anywhere" to "I will never actually hear back from anywhere." :/ This is excruciating!

That's one of my new culinary fantasies. Perhaps I'll realize that in a few weeks, if I go 0-for-4...

Ole Miss (The University Of Mississippi) Clinical Psychology, PhD (F18) Rejected via E-mail on 15 Dec 2017 15 Dec 2017 report spam Wow. Really disappointed that in the era of Trump I still need experience. Your loss, Ole Miss.
I only just found this thread, but I remembered this post from December and had to share. Gave me a good laugh then, just as this thread is now.

Just when I was starting to doubt myself and draft my next round of applications, I got an interview request from one of the schools I applied to! I only applied to two schools, so I'm pretty excited!

I’m gonna be honest. It’s kind of frustrating to see people talk about “only” receiving one acceptance, when it’s my second round of practically getting shut out. I would appreciate any acceptance or interview that dropped into my inbox but idk...maybe it’s all about perspective and circumstances. But it’s frustrating to see and I’m 100% sure it’s all tied into my own shortcomings but yea...it almost always comes off as a humble brag haha

Haven't heard anything since submitted applications. Pulling my hair everyday while checking emails with a belief that more times of refreshing can make it a quicker reply... I think I'll be bold in a few days if still not receiving any update.
