Hi everyone! No grad school for me this fall, which is okay Who else is beefing up their resumes and trying again?? I was rejected everywhere but one school last year (couldn't afford it, turned it down), was wait listed at 5 schools this year and rejected at 3, seems like we're on track to get in if I keep putting in the work haha. Congrats to everyone who got in this year, can't wait to work with you all in the future. Logging off for a few months - what a process

Did anyone else JUST get waitlisted? I'm so confused. Again, Did NOT interview, have been waiting for a rejection for months, why would they just send a WL now? Not feeling hopeful about this one, will probably turn down So weird! Congrats to everyone going!! Such a great program, enjoy!

University of Oregon or Washington State University?
PNWSpeech replied to mitzi's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Congrats on both!! I love UofO, I did my undergrad there and know the SLP program is great. BUT all of that being said, I work in a speech clinic in Portland and we have therapists who went to both schools, I say go where it's cheaper. You'll be equally employable and will have an equally great education, if you can save ANY money you should absolutely do it. You'll get an amazing education and WSU. That's the advice i've always gottten from SLP's and is the reason I turned down my only offer last year, do what makes sense financially because you'll get to do what you love regardless knowing you have choices -
Just want to throw out there that last year I was waitlisted at chapman w/o an interview and turned down the spot because I was accepted to NYU's residential program. There's no way to really know what's going on with these programs. It's a bad way to do things, they know how small this community is etc. but it's not impossible I guess?

Ugh I had the same conversation with them earlier this week. It honestly feels a little rude to string us along for so long when we know interviews happened months ago and people have been accepted. Even a WL at this point we know we're lower on the list than people who interviewed who were waitlisted. Lots of heartbreak in this process :) Good luck!!!

Uh oh! I didn't get a interview for the 2/15 date and your stats are way higher than mine! Still hopeful for the next interview date... though I have a trip to disneyland planned that weekend. I'll fly home for it, who cares :) Good luck!!!!!!!!!- 22 replies

Typo After Submitting Application
PNWSpeech replied to hopefulfuturespeechie's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Last year I put the wrong schools name in one of my personal statements and still got waitlisted :) It was horrifying and heart breaking to realize I made a mistake but if I can make one that big and get waitlisted i'm sure you'll be fine! -

Schools that accept low GREs scores; HELP!!
PNWSpeech replied to BlackGirlSpeechie's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
They do for the SLP program, I think the average is 70th percentile V and 50th for Q from what i've heard of people applying in my post bac. I love UO -

I used Magoosh for my GRE and it really really helped! The free trial version is great and you can't just keep getting free weeks as long as you have emails to spare haha. Also all their instructional videos are on youtube if you search for the video name! Even a few points would help compensate for the GPA Good luck!!! -
Second year applicants
PNWSpeech replied to Stephanie022594's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I'm also a first year applicant but was told by one of my waitlists that they use their waitlist until term starts citing a story from a cohort that admitted their last wait listed applicant the week before orientation. My bf's sister in law was admitted to her nursing program the day it started. Waitlists are a nightmare haha Hopefully it all works for you though! For everybody!! -
Thanks for responding! Super comforting, hopefully we both hear something soon

Oh i'm sure that's true then!! I would go with pacific I've loved everything about PSU but pacific just has such a charming program! I'm not going there, I actually didn't get into PSU OR Pacific, so i'm trying to decide if I wanna move across the country for a program or reapply and stay local. Best of luck!!!

Congrats! Those are both super competitive programs!! I did my post-bacc at PSU, spent a lot of time working in labs there, etc. The faculty is amazing and the resources in being so connected to OHSU is incredible. That being said, I also loved pacific and had considered that my top choice school. The main difference I hear people talk about is that Pacific is going to have more "hand holding" for better or for worse!! (For me that's better). They don't have quite as strong of ties to some of the big prestigious Portland placements but still is a great education. There probably is not a wrong choice here! Both are great programs with good reputations in the area. I think PSU is a little more research focused and the connection with OHSU is a huge factor to consider, especially if you lean toward a medical focus. Keep us updated with what you decide!!
