  1. Real talk: can some one plz recommend comfy/ professional/ cute women’s shoes I can wear to interviews and walk around in without having my toes fall off? This is v important. How do I give a good elevator speech when my toes are purple and my blisters have blisters?
  2. I'm glad it worked out!! Sorry about your frustrations with the other interviews/ process. Like @dancedementia, I've had many similar experiences (but when applying for jobs), and the whole whoever-you're-interviewing-with-already-has-picked-someone-else-for-the-spot - thing is way too familiar for me. It is SO disappointing, but looking at it as prep, prep, and more prep has been helpful for me as well. I think I have tweaked something each time actually.
  3. Ok thanks, that's super helpful info if your schools include it on their sites!
  4. Oooh... is this data just on the "Student Admissions, Outcomes, and other data" tab, if they include it? I'm trying to find info on offers for my schools but no luck!
  5. Re: multiple offers Per CUDCP, in case people were unaware of etiquette and guidelines: “6. A student should not hold more than two offers for more than one week unless there is specific information (e.g. a visit is scheduled, funding decisions, advisor decisions) they are waiting to receive from the program. Difficulty making up one’s mind is not considered an adequate excuse to limit the options available to other applicants. Holding multiple offers ties up slots, preventing programs from making offers to other students. This is a complex principle operationalized in the points below. a. It is legitimate for students to want to visit a program, if they have not done so already, before making decisions among offers. Such visits should be scheduled as soon as practical after the offer of admission is received. If after a visit to a program the student decides that the program is rated lower than a program that the student has already been offered admission to, the student should inform the lower rank program that they will be declining their offer. b. Whenever possible, the student applicant should inform training programs by phone or email of a decision, following up within 24 hours with a written confirmation of that decision. c. Once a student has accepted an offer of admission to a Graduate Training Program, the student should inform all programs in which they are currently under consideration that they are either declining outstanding offers of admission or no longer wish to be considered for admission. Students should contact by phone or email those programs that have offered them admission.” oof. They don’t even mention 3 offers! Here is more info, bc benefit of the doubt, maybe people are unaware... https://cudcp.wildapricot.org/Resources/Documents/CUDCP Policy on Graduate Program Offers and Acceptances (FULL version).pdf also I agree 99.9% ?
  6. I so hear you, but I told my SO that if I DON’T get in, then we get dog #3 bc that way win/win?/less terrible loss/I can drown my sorrows in dog fur. He didn’t agree, but I feel like I get an A for effort.
  7. Bahaha re stress sweating. This is so much my life. Probs end up hiding tissues in there ?
  8. Guys I'm casually measuring the time until my next interview by how many more sleeps I have until interview day. Like nbd, but it's now 15 more sleeps til interview day. I need an advent calendar to get me through this business. Edited bc actually an advent calendar is such a good idea. I'm going to find one on amazon and just eat 2 chocolates a day. Just living my best life.
  9. Thanks for the feedback... fingers crossed that’s the case, nice to keep some hope alive!!
  10. I mean....I feel like there are potentially two great parts of the whole process, finding out you have an interview and getting an offer. Everything in between is pretty much the worst ?? hopefully you get some good news soon !
  11. One of the schools I applied to sent out interview invites like 3 weeks ago, and I didn't receive one so I presumed rejection. The interviews happen in a few weeks. I reached out to the program to confirm the status of my app (for closure) and they said my app is "still pending review". How would you guys take that? No one has posted rejections/WL for this program. I was expecting a legit rejection, and now I'm more confused!!
  12. Congrats on the interview, I'm sorry it didn't go as you hoped. I think you could write in your thank you that you didn't feel quite yourself and ended up being more nervous than you anticipated. Maybe you could say you thought more about x idea or question and feel like it is better articulated by saying x. But I think it's something to really think through and send a thoughtful follow-up to show the strengths that maybe you didn't get to fully display. We are all human, and hopefully your PI realizes how stressful this whole thing is! But! That being said, are you someone who doesn't give yourself the benefit of the doubt/ is quick to be self-critical? Maybe it wasn't as awkward as you thought and your PI didn't think twice about any of it and was actually impressed by you! I think try as hard as possible to be objective about what you said/didn't say, and what you would say to someone else in your position. Do you have a mentor or anyone like that who would be a good sounding board? Good luck!!
  13. Personally, I think it's totally fine to send a nice email just asking if it's possible to check on the status of your application, or give the office a call and ask if they are aware of when invites will be extended. Good luck!
  14. I wasn't the person who gave a description, but in mine it was 3 faculty and then interviewees. We were given a topic to discuss- a clinical scenario/ ethical dilemma and asked how we would proceed. It was a round table discussion and actually the least stressful part for me. We all gave our POVs and brought up different questions. The faculty basically just observed, and then gave us an additional prompt to consider. So mine wasn't like let's go down the line and talk about our individual experiences, it was more simulating a classroom discussion. Hope that helps!!
  15. Right there with you guys. My big one is a few weeks out still, but I legit wake up at night and think about it. Just my future, nbd ?
  16. Oh good idea about calling the school!! I wish I had it in my email, but I no longer have my school email address, and my old comp broke taking all of the contents with it (clearly underscoring the importance of backing stuff up!). Ok good to know, and I am not trying to use it to cover a requirement, so hopefully no issue! Thanks!!
  17. I wrote an honors thesis as an undergrad (legit many years ago) and reference it on my CV. I remember what it was on (obvs) but I do not have a copy of it anywhere, nor does my previous advisor. I have not done a ton of research since, and am trying to figure out how to address my thesis if it comes up. I can give a summary but not a ton of details/ bring in copies. Has this been an issue for anyone/ any suggestions?
