  1. This is a very interesting question and I, too, would like to learn more about child/family friendly campuses.
  2. It is exhausting! I really think that it depends on the program, school, and professors you're applying to and what the strengths and emphasis of each are. I'm hoping to work with individuals with ASD in community settings. If I had never worked with this population in these settings, I would be in for a rude awakening. I think this is an important part of the process too! Cheering for you and all your clinical experience!
  3. Hi Everyone! I noticed that a forum was started specifically for clinical psychology applicants who had heard back from schools regarding interviews. I thought it would be helpful to create one for school psychology programs as well. Even though the results section also has this, we can discuss specifically school psych programs. I applied to University of Utah, University of Virginia, James Madison University (PsyD), and UNC Chapel Hill school psych programs. These programs tend to have later deadlines so I think it's safe to assume that the programs will begin reaching out later rather than sooner? Any thoughts?
  4. This is so very helpful for any interview and to help generate ideas and research language in general! Thank you for sharing!
  5. With so many programs, and the majority of them holding Friday or Monday interviews, I'm assuming it would be difficult to have it any other way. I guess it's their way of regulating the amount of opportunities any given candidate is given. Somewhat like the whole 'don't hold more than two acceptances/admittances at a time. Just praying that top choices reach out so that this doesn't even become a thing.
  6. Sigh indeed! Are you ever worried that you may get multiple interviews for the same day? When I'm feeling hopeful about getting interviews, I then worry about this ?
  7. Exciting to have someone on the thread who is in! How do you like the program? Any insider info as far as application process?
  8. Hi Everyone! I applied to a few programs both in school psych and clinical psych. The school psych programs are University of Utah (one of my top but the biggest change and move since I'm in FL), James Madison University (Combined clinical and school), University of Virginia, and UNC Chapel Hill. I also applied to Michigan State, Ohio State and UNC Chapel Hill for clinical psych. This wait is killing me too!! It's exciting to hear some of you have already received interviews! At least we're mostly done with the application process (waiting for LOR was so anxiety provoking!). Good luck to everyone!
  9. I have a lot of anxiety about this too. One thing my supervisor (an assistant professor of clinical psych) told me that brought me lots of hope is that I have lots of clinical/practical experience working directly with the population I'm interested in, which is a plus. Hopefully this will save us ?
  10. Haha! Exactly! I'm hoping that maybe late December / early January will bring some news. I applied to one adult clinical because the research I'm interested in is being done by a POI in that program. But all others are in child or combined clinical and school psychology (UVA and JMU). Are you doing adult or child? Glad I can share these anxieties with others ?
  11. Worries: My training and the vast majority of my experiences are in a related field (special education) but not directly in the field I am applying to (school and clinical psych). I sometimes feel this could work in my favor and give me an edge but, most often than not, I feel worried that I will be overlooked. My GRE scores are solidly average (and I worked very hard for the meager scores I got!). I, too, am 30 and I have a lot pending on this decision in this stage of my life. I applied only to out of state programs in an effort to diversify my education as all my degrees as from the same university. I often worry that my application is not good enough and that all of the hard work I've put forth the last few years, including changing careers, would have been for nothing. Excitement: I have quite a bit of experience in research (8 years total, the last 3 full-time) and all of my professional experience has been in my area of interest (autism). My husband has been extremely supportive and has graciously agreed to move wherever I am accepted. I had the opportunity to speak over the phone and exchange emails with some of the POIs, who showed interest in my experiences and potential. I am definitely (cautiously) hopeful!!
  12. I applied to 4 clinical psychology programs and 5 school psychology programs. I spent the last 3 years working in a research program involving both fields, but my training and the vast of my experience is in special education. I'm really nervous that my background would be looked at as not psychology-e enough! Have been religiously looking at my email and application status on the website, as well as these forums. Very anxious to say the least! ?
