ASDadvocate replied to wannabeschoolpsych's topic in Psychology Forum
Unfortunately they don’t have that info on their stats and outcomes. I don’t think it’ll hurt you at all!! With me, only about 5 people attended it. Just wanted to know if you were one. We got this ?? Happy new year!- 238 replies

Did you also apply to school psych at MSU? I applied to the clinical program. Hopefully they haven’t finished reaching out! Also, did you attend the online informational session KR led in nov?- 238 replies

Just got the itinerary for my interview and was wondering what to wear for dinners and a scheduled visit to a children’s hospital. I think I’m keeping my interview outfit for the hospital visit but this is a good idea for dinners. Thank you! ?

I was feeling anxious too but noticed no one has posted anything on the results page. I imagine they’ll reach out starting Tuesday at this point. UoU is one of my top choices too. Who’s your POI? Mine are AF and KR. Hope to see you there for interviews!! ?? Congrats on your interviews! Good luck ?- 238 replies

Definitely! I was pleasantly surprised when the POI sent this info too. Since it’s my first interview so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Hoping for more like these for us all!! ? -

They offered me reimbursement for flight and food. They will take care of stay (they said they would send me hotel confirmation) and transportation. This is for the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) psychology PhD at Ohio State University. I applied to the combined clinical and IDD program but received an email from the POI from the IDD program. -

Congrats on the interview!! I guess schools do differ a lot on the type of assistance they provide if any for interviews. Here’s to hoping for more! Here I am praying for the break to be go by faster ? -
I did the same thing. Also, I wrote 2 1/2 pages for SOPs with no limit and tailored the rest to specific requirements. At first, I tried to keep it to 2 pages but my current supervisor (an assistant professor in the field I’m applying to) said 3 pages would be fine. (Ps. This is for school and clinical psych)

Fall 2019 Psychology PhD Applicants!

The interview I have is pretty far from home for me so I’m flying there. But if I get interviews to schools along the East coast, I think I’ll drive there instead. The school where I’m interviewing also offered mileage reimbursement if I drove instead. I feel fortunate. On a separate note, anyone else looking forward to the end of the winter break to hear from schools?! ? -
I read on here someone got multiple interviews without reaching out to anyone prior to applying. Don’t give up hope! Hopefully after winter break ??

Fall 2019 Clinical Psych Interview Invites

Really hoping I get the opportunity to attend those ? -
Should I go to both interviews or just one?
ASDadvocate replied to gasmasque's topic in Psychology Forum
Congrats on your interviews! Have you already accepted the interview with school #1? I think the field is so connected that I would personally be fearful of not following through with a compromise (if you’ve already compromised to attend). In this case, I would attend both. On the other hand, if you have not promised attendance to school #1 or if you feel that lack of sleep would greatly affect your performance (you know yourself best), then I think that would call for you making the decision to prioritize your second interview as it’s one of your top choices. Again, congrats on your interviews and good luck!! -

I have only one interview as well so far and they will also reimburse me and take care of hotel expenses. I was hoping this was standard too. -
Psychology Doctoral Programs?
ASDadvocate replied to taylbuonocore's question in Questions and Answers
Hi! I went through this prior to applying! Based on what you’ve just described, it sounds like you would benefit more from PsyD program. In a PsyD they would train you as a practitioner, whereas in a PhD program there is heavier emphasis on research; which if you already know you don’t like it, you may not have such a great time completing a PhD for 5+ years. The only downside to PsyD programs I see, for those who’d prefer to apply to them, is that most are not funded or have very little funding. As far as clinical versus counseling, there are combined programs that offer both. I used the APA website to look into their list of APA accredited programs and found those that i thought would be a good fit for me. I personally applied to various programs based on my specific research and clinical interests, even if some may be very different because they shared the same population I’m interested in working with in common. Of the PsyD programs I researched, the only one I’m applying to since it is fully funded is the combined clinical and school psychology program at James Madison University. I recommend looking through the APA website and looking specifically at PsyD programs in states where you would like to live. And then exploring the program websites and professor lab websites to see what “calls to you”. This will help to narrow down the search. Good luck!!- 2 replies
