Post-Interview Anxieties, Worries, Thoughts, Comments, etc.
ASDadvocate replied to xxxxxxxxxx's topic in Psychology Forum
I'm sorry you don't feel the interview went well These questions have not been asked of me just yet but for the least favorite part of research, I have always thought that the length of time it takes to see a research project through from beginning (idea) to end (dissemination) is the most difficult as it takes a lot of patience and perseverance. With this question, I feel that they want to make sure you are aware of what you're getting into with a PhD program. For the weakness questions, give an honest response but also be sure to let them know what you're doing to overcome this potential weakness. I've heard of people who say that they have no weakness or come up with a weakness that is an obvious way of making you look really good- don't do this. They can easily see through this. Some "good" weaknesses I've heard of have always been paired with ways to improve them; organization, stretching your time too thin, etc.- 158 replies

Waitlist and Help Me Decide Thread 2019
ASDadvocate replied to imonfire98's topic in Psychology Forum
I guess that depends on whether they are waiting to hear back from a top choice. If they are holding on hope to get in to their top school, they may then hold off from making a decision for somewhere they have already been admitted to. I think it might be normal to take a bit to make a decision between 2 programs or wait to hear from a top choice if there is actually a chance that they may reach out. I think after visiting a program for interviews, you get a pretty good sense of whether you'd like to attend based on the program itself, faculty, students, location, and of course funding! No reason to hold on to an offer you know you won't take but we'll see!- 177 replies

Post-Interview Anxieties, Worries, Thoughts, Comments, etc.
ASDadvocate replied to xxxxxxxxxx's topic in Psychology Forum
Those are pretty strong words! I'm sure most POIs would be aware of their words before sending out emails. I guess only time will tell but I would be curious if anyone receives a decision that didn't match with an obvious email/communication remark, such as "see you in the fall".- 158 replies

Waitlist and Help Me Decide Thread 2019
ASDadvocate replied to imonfire98's topic in Psychology Forum
At one of the schools where I interviewed, One of the students mentioned being waitlisted and not getting admitted until April. Gave me some hope! I am currently waitlisted at UVA (one of my top 3 choices) but it was pre- interview. Not sure how those work. I am also waiting to hear back from another top choice where I interviewed this past week, and I'm interviewing Monday with my third top choice. I guess it'll come down to the ones where I interviewed. Not sure I actually have a chance with UVA.- 177 replies

Post-Interview Anxieties, Worries, Thoughts, Comments, etc.
ASDadvocate replied to xxxxxxxxxx's topic in Psychology Forum
I can definitely sympathize with the paranoia of analyzing every detail of the thank you replies. I had a POI at a top choice say that he was "excited" to get back to me soon to inform me of their decision. You wouldn't be excited unless you were sharing a positive decision, right? ?- 158 replies

Post here to get your worries off your chest
ASDadvocate replied to Teaching Faculty Wannabe's topic in Waiting it Out
Worries: I had my first interview the second week of January and although I thought it went super well, I actually got rejected from it which now makes me second guess everything I thought I had going for me. Go away imposter syndrome!! Excitement: I have two interviews this weekend and two more coming up the last week of Feb (which I just found about two days ago!). Out of these 4, 2 of them are top choices! I'm hoping that my experience and feedback from the first interview will ultimately benefit me. Gratitude: 5 interviews and 1 waitlist out of 9 programs was not something I was expecting at all! Very grateful ?- 274 replies

Fall 2019 Clinical Psychology Applicants (PhD, PsyD)
ASDadvocate replied to xxxxxxxxxx's topic in Psychology Forum
I just called James Madison University regarding their Combined Clinical and School Psychology PsyD program. They mentioned they will be reviewing applications today and should be reaching out for interviews between this afternoon and tomorrow. The person I spoke to also mentioned that the process took a little longer than usual this year because they received a higher number of applicants compared to previous years and that this is by far one of the most competitive years.- 328 replies

I debated whether I would go back to teaching too if it came down to it. I have given it some thought and I will be applying to work full time for research programs if don't get in anywhere this time around. Would you try applying again if you don't get in this cycle?- 238 replies

Gotcha! This makes sense too. The waiting continues and intensifies! Waiting to hear for interviews... waiting to hear back about acceptance... waiting to hear about funding... then can finally breathe a sigh of relief that you can make it to grad school! Let's not talk about all the waiting and pushing once you're actually in. We're a bunch of masochists! -
