  1. Current student here- this question is common but imo it’s more about how well you can think through the components of a project (i.e. what could be feasible, what population would you sample from (and why), does your question show that you understand the area of research, etc.).. I was asked this question and it turned into more of a convo to learn about the lab/current projects. It’s a hard question but useful for you too it’s also important for you as an applicant to make sure they have space for your interests! Feel free to msg if you have more questions about this (or anything else)
  2. Incoming student here! I just wanted to throw in my two cents that the response (or lack of lol) to any initial contact emails you send is so dependent on the supervisor - the supervisor I'll be working with didn't respond when I sent an email of interest last fall and I think it's pretty common to not hear anything because they get so many emails. Obv much easier said than done, but don't let it discourage you so early on in the cycle!
  3. Hi & congrats everyone!! I'm headed to OISE for the clinical and counselling program
  4. Yes agree with the person above!! Also if you do want the research component I know people in social work who do that too so it’s def possible!
  5. Hi everyone! This is super late because I wanted to wait until I got my official notice. School: OISE Type: CCP Acceptance/Waitlist/Rejection: Acceptance Type of Notification: Email to check portal Date Notified: Unofficial notice from POI on March 24 and official acceptance email April 8 DM for POI: Yes! Just for some perspective, this is not my first time applying. I ended up doing a totally different Master's in between and learned so much. This time around, I only applied to this one program because it was the research I'm passionate about and I'm super grateful it worked out!
  6. So amazing congratulations!! It's so exciting starting to see acceptances roll in. Hang in there everyone ?
  7. Interview School: OISE Program: CCP Date of invite: February 10 Date of interview: given a few choices this week DM for POI: yes Notified through a phone call from POI Super nice surprise today!!
  8. I interviewed at Guelph a couple years ago (pre-pandemic obv so take this with a grain of salt!). It was an interview day which included a tour of the lab for your POI, an interview with the POI, an interview with another faculty member, lunch/Q&A with current students (they started with everyone together then split off into lab groups), and a general Q&A session with some people from the department. In that year (2019) the interview was on Feb 1, with invites being sent ~one week before and decisions for acceptances/waitlists being a week after and then I'm guessing rejections around then too? Hope that helps!
  9. Your best bet would be on university career sites in your area! When I was applying, I just searched "University of x jobs" and you will typically find opportunities there. If you live in an area with research hospitals (CAMH for example has TONS of research assistant jobs), then that's also a good bet! Again not sure if others have different experiences, but from what I've seen, it's harder to find paid employment by emailing labs or PIs directly because if they had the funding, they would probably have posted a job haha. But if you wanna get some volunteer experience under your belt/can't find anything paid, I've had a lot of success emailing labs and asking if they need volunteers!
  10. I took a couple years off before starting my current master's program and I remember starting to apply [to psych lab research positions] around March/early April to avoid the rush of graduating students who will also be looking at the end of April/early May. Not sure what everyone else's experiences have been but I would def recommend applying formally around then. I honestly think any time starting now-ish is totally reasonable to start feeling it out by reaching out to potential places you'd like to work! It's worth it to see if they anticipate having positions/if these places are even a fit for you?
  11. I used to work for a clinical prof at UCalgary and they didn't do prelims at the time, for what it's worth!
  12. If you're attending U of T for any public health program this fall, we (the Public Health Students' Association) have created a Facebook group so you can connect with everyone and stay up to date with our orientation programming! We're excited to meet you all The link for the group is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2724165124479833/?source_id=169542879722785 Good luck to anyone still waiting to hear back!
  13. Just got off the McMaster Global Health waitlist today, but will be declining the offer so hopefully someone hears some good news soon! All the best to anyone still waiting
  14. Hi! I got in this month- got my offer unofficially about 2 weeks ago and the official offer a week later
