  1. University of Texas at Austin, PhD counseling psychology. Excited to be living in the great state of Ted Cruz *sarcasm on 1000000%*. But really, I am excited to move to Austin and join this program!!
  2. I am also in this position wondering the same thing, I saw some people have posted acceptances into the master's program on the results page.
  3. Hi! Has anyone who was accepted into UT Austin's Counseling Psychology PhD program heard back regarding their financial package? I'm patiently waiting here!
  4. I'm currently waiting on funding information as well and I don't know why but it is making me anxious all over again. I had a nightmare I wouldn't receive any funding at all and I was somehow required to pay for the tuition myself. Needless to say, I need to do something fun that will get my mind off of all of this. I feel relieved and ecstatic that I was admitted into one of my top 3 choices, however, I still feel the slightest bit of anxiety. I hope you're all doing better than me
  5. By "having more diversity," I assume that you meant to enhance diverse perspectives. You can enhance diverse perspectives and not be a person of color. Someone's racial background is not the reason they were admitted into a program, they were clearly a good fit with the PI. Although you meant no harm with your question it rubbed me the wrong way because of how rude it is to assume that someone's status as a racial/ethnic minority only made them a stronger applicant and you're lack of "diversity" is what made you a "weaker" applicant. This process sucks and we are all going through it. There's no need to try and make someone feel as though they only got into a program because they are a person of color, that's just pure ignorance and entitlement. Again, I'm sorry you are going through this but you should really watch how you phrase your questions and comments.
  6. School: University of Texas at Austin Program: Counseling Psychology Acceptance Date and Notification: February 14th. Phone call from POI. I plan on accepting, just waiting to hear back for more details about funding!
  7. Has anyone who interviewed at UT Austin last weekend heard back?
  8. I second this piece of advice. Check to see if your university has a showcase of undergraduate research or an undergraduate psychology expo where you can submit a poster. These tend to be free and are great to add on your CV.
  9. Hi! In my personal opinion, I really think you are putting too much emphasis on not having a publication. So what if you don't have a publication? You have many other accomplishments to speak on the type of researcher and student you would be in graduate school. Having scored in the 90th percentile on the GRE is phenomenal and will most definitely get you past the first round of application reviews, as well as increase your chances of receiving a good funding package for the first year, should you be accepted into a program. Your honors thesis, research experience, and letters of rec are what will help you stand out. I think that as long as you have a clear idea of your research interests and can match these interests to the work of the professors you're applying with, then you absolutely have a strong chance of being invited to interview for a program. With that being said, I think it's important to spend your gap year being productive and trying to remain active in research. If you want to go into a highly productive research program, which most PhD programs in clinical and counseling psych are, I would try to find a research paying job, it doesn't necessarily matter what field as long as your getting experience and can tie these experiences into what you would be doing in graduate school. If you can't find a research paying job, I would try to be an RA for a lab. I really don't think it matters too much that you don't have publications, most undergrads don't. A lot of the time, undergrad journals that publish honors theses are not even that highly regarded. I hope this helps, good luck with everything!
  10. Hi, congrats on your first interview. I have my first in-person interview coming up this week for a doctoral program. Although it’s not for a forensic psychology program, I am pretty much prepared to answer questions regarding my research interests, my research experiences, why I applied to that program, why I’m a unique candidate compared to others that applied, what are my strengths & weaknesses. Make sure to learn about the specific program you’re applying to & be prepared to give a brief “about me” statement. I hope this helps! Good luck!
  11. GOOD LUCK to those interviewing this weekend. Please update us on how they go. You guys will do great!!
  12. School: University of Texas at Austin Type: Counseling Psychology PhD Date of invite: 12/13 Type of invite: Group email from POI, but everyone was bcc'd so you can't see who it was addressed to Interview date(s): 2/6 (informal gathering) and 2/7 (main interview)
  13. I applied to the clinical program at U Pitt and received an email last night from SCB (my POI) that she was not extending any invites because there was a possibility her and her lab would be relocating to another university. In the email she stated that a lot of applications are still under review. Hope this helps!
