shameless bump again! Really is there no one who applied to this program!?! Anyone here developmental, social or quantitative psych? Or Ed Psych w/anything?
-
I have no idea the accepted proposals I've seen before have been very polished (but those might just be the people who are willing to share theirs!).
-
I didn't attend UM, but I went to high school very nearby and most of my friends went to UM so I spent plenty of time hanging out there and crashing in their dorms/apartments. Too bad they don't let grad students live on campus anymore I'm not familiar w/Red Road Commons, looks like it is new: http://www.themiamihurricane.com/2008/0 ... -students/ That area has changed so much since I used to hang out there (it has been almost 10 years!). Generally, there are very nice areas around Coral Gables, South Miami and Coconut Grove, but there can also be some very sketchy areas. Looks like UM has a page for off-campus housing, including a roommate search, so that should help you out - or you could always try Craig's list. I miss Coral Gables and Miami a lot - there are so many great things to do and places to explore! You will have a good few years there
-
What specifically do you want to know? The campus is beautiful, the food is better than average at the dorm cafeterias, and the city of Coral Gables is among the wealthiest in the Miami area. You will need a car if you want to live off-campus or want to live in the campus apartments and buy groceries, etc. Ask away, I'm happy to answer.

with roommates and a little frugality, it's definitely possible!

I wish I could have, but I'm too old

That's a change from 2 days ago, isn't it? At least we know there is some progress, lol.

I applied to NDSEG. I think it has its own thread if you look down in this forum. Haven't heard anything yet...
-
It's my first time, so I won't get to see any until they send me the user name and password, but past applicants supposedly can use their old login info. When I tried my fastlane login before today I got a page error. Today I got a username/password error.

ooh! The screen I got when I tried to log on to the rating sheets changed!
-
oh that's good to know! I was worried I'd be ineligible!
-
one is on break this week (the one I emailed last week), the other definitely isn't because they had a faculty meeting an hour after I emailed him.
-
I emailed grad directors from two of the programs I am waiting on - one last week and the other yesterday. Haven't heard back from either of them. Probably a bad sign, eh?
-
oh man! that sucks. I'm sorry. Maybe there were just people there that got on better with the professors? If it makes you feel any better I worry that after visiting the schools I've been *accepted* to they will decide they really don't want me to come (I have a personality that not everyone loves, lol).
-
I would suggest we do this poll again after 4/15. For those who put none, are you still waiting on schools?

Who are you taking to your Admitted Student Days?
t_ruth replied to golonghorns's topic in Waiting it Out
Most people from out of town at my recent visit brought their SO and in-town people brought SOs and/or children to socializing events (beach bonfire and BBQ at a professor's house). I brought my husband and children and communicated this to recruitment folks ahead of time. They had set up a room with toys for my children to play in and for me to nurse in when needed and gave me a key. While I was in non-family events, meetings, etc. my family spent most of their time exploring, playing at a nearby playground, walking around campus, etc. -
I had a visit recently and asked in person then. I was most comfortable doing it that way, but I might hesitate to wait too much longer because some other student might ask first and they might run out? It seems that sometimes a department can go to the greater University and ask for special funds to attract a particular candidate and I imagine this money is limited.

I'm guessing most of us don't mention Beacon Hill because it is WAY out of our price range. I'm skeptical that you could find a studio there for that price and suspect that someone is being very creative w/the boundaries of the area if they are listing a 1K studio in 'Beacon Hill,' but I could be wrong.

early April!?! ugh. I really needed to know by 4/1

I'd prefer Quincy to Malden. Malden is kind of dead and dirty...lots of obnoxious smokers on every sidewalk. There are more young professionals living in certain areas of Quincy and more stuff around (restaurants, stores, etc.). It might be hard to find a good place close to the T in either area if you want something in walking distance. ETA: I used to work in Malden and my husband used to work in Quincy, so I've spent a fair amount of time in each.

Admits with no funding or no word on funding yet?
t_ruth replied to Tumbleweed's topic in Waiting it Out
Just found out one of my acceptances probably won't be able to fund me. Does kind of make me feel like a second-class citizen, and like "you were 'ok', not good not bad, just ok." -
I have a 12/15 deadline school I still haven't heard back from. I also had a few *very* quick notifiers. One school sent me my acceptance letter a week after they received all my materials (edit to add: the letter came in the mail and was dated a day after they received my materials).
-
I've received acceptances from four state schools. At one, I'd be a member of a certain fellowship w/great funding, at another I received a two year TAship (possibly will be extended to three) and I'm still waiting on the other two. At one of these remaining two, I was told info would come this month and at the other, I know I'm up for some university-wide fellowships and the Ed. people are waiting on word on those before deciding on their own funding. Still waiting on three schools (two state and one private).

ah, well I have, along with Brighton and Medford.

thank you. I will try not to get drunk w/my new power
