Hello!
I am applying to York and TMU (Ryerson). Debating on applying to U of T. With regard to references, do you use the same referees for all applications? Do you get concerned about overwhelming your referees if they have to write reference letters for several schools? I hate to inconvenience my referees. I feel like I am well suited for grad school, but I am overwhelmed with the application process.

Does anyone know of a site where students post reviews of the msw program they attended? My concern is that U of T will not be critical enough for me, although I dont mind that it is course-based. I am currently doing my BSW at McMaster, and it is quite anti oppressive and critical.

Hi there! I was wondering if you heard anything back from York or TMU (Ryerson)?

I’m freaking out! I applied to Waterloo but they said one of my unofficial transcripts I submitted didn’t have the info they needed (program, date, etc) and asked I send in an official one to progress with my application. I am hopeful this is a good sign that I’m possibly getting accepted or waitlisted because I’m hoping they wouldn’t ask for one if I was being rejected. I had to quickly order an official transcript for them. Fingers crossed!

I heard back from Waterloo for the advanced standing MSW program - got waitlisted. Darn! Still waiting to hear back from U of T and Carleton :)

Good luck to everyone!!

Congratulations!!! Can I ask when you sent in your application for UWindsor? I applied for the same program and I'm so nervous. Also, how do they let you know that you've been accepted?

Thank you! I started my application late-November and submitted everything on the deadline. They sent me an email that said a decision had been made, which led me to my eGAS account where the offer letter was!

Best of luck!:)

For those that applied to UofT, how do you access your Acorn account?

Expand

you would have gotten an email a couple weeks after you submitted your application with information about a UofT JoinID - this login gives you access to ACORN!

Well I told myself I wouldn't be back on this website but here I am.

My application record so far:

2020 UofT = Waitlisted

2020 WLU = Rejected

2021 UofT = Waitlisted

2023 UofT = ?????

Only time will tell. Good luck everyone.

Just got a call from U of T! Accepted into the 1-year advanced standing program! I'll be crying all day! My portal has not been updated yet in SGS. I got a call from Michael Shier into the Human Services Management and Leadership stream. I applied through the Black student application. I'm not sure if what stream you applied to makes a difference if they call or not. My Last name starts with an F. Good luck to all! :)

Ps. Would love to get a FB group going once folks here back!

I'm likely declining my offer of admission so maybe that will bump you off the waitlist :)

nope, all applicants to UofT should get an JoinID! regardless of whether you get in or not.

In the past years that has definitely been true, when I applied a few years ago I got one, but I didn't get an email about it this year. I think in the information session they may have also said that you only get the JoinID once you've been accepted now since they changed the application portal as of this year. Did you apply this year and get an email from them with the info? Maybe I just didn't get the email if so.

hmmm, i got an email with my JoinID in december so i would imagine way before they were doing admissions ? curious though. if you haven’t received one, i wouldn’t stress about it though because i don’t think having a JoinID is a deciding factor right now! but maybe you could follow up with angela later on?  or check your junk!

Oh shoot, yeah I'll follow up soon then, someone in their office said we weren't getting them this year (unless accepted) bc of the new portal and so I just assumed that must have been true when I didn't receive anything. I still have access to ACORN from my application years ago but not sure if it's still active or the right info anymore. Good to know, thanks!

no problem! a thought just occurred to me - maybe because you’ve submitted applications previous years they aren’t sending out new JoinIDs and you are expected to continue using the same ACORN portal? (this is my first year applying to UofT)

are you able to share when your portal in SGS (or ACORN) update to reflect your offer of admission?

On my phone right now so this is probably a jumbled mess.

This time around my application looked like this:

GPA 3.7 for my undergrad.

I don't know my stats course grade of the top of my head but I know it was at least an A

Experience and hours:

1200 hour internship in a LTC home

100 at my local foodbank

100 with Kids Help Phone

2000 - 3000 hours in an unrelated field but working with kids and kids with special needs

I started writing my letter of intent the day after I got waitlisted last year in April so I had 4-5 months to really flesh out my experiences. I sent it to people in the field for editing, mainly supervisors and my clinical psych family member, so uh fingers crossed. I already have a back up plan in place so it's not the end of the world if I don't get into U of T but it's really the only MSW program I want and has been my goal for a while now.

Good luck.

Thank you :).

Will do! It has not been updated yet. Also don't be alarmed for those not receiving calls yet from U of T, the Human Service Management/Leadership stream is by far the smallest stream (based on U of T's faculty list for MSW specialization). Not sure if they have the capacity to call each student. If anyone else got into this stream and is reading this, I'd be interested to know :).
