I’m a sculpture applicant and I have my RISD interview tomorrow morning 😅 It’s my first time applying so I honestly have no idea what to expect — especially what kind of questions they usually ask. If anyone has interviewed with RISD before, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience or any questions you remember! TwhowantsanMFA Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Just got accepted to UC Davis. 😭 (Form email that there was an application status update, link to portal, etc.) I applied last year and didn't get an interview, so turns out that the advice to try again is true. I'm still in shock because the 10 minute interview format was so stressful, but I'm starting to get really excited. (And also just relieved. Three UC interviews last week and I've been a basket case all this week, waiting to hear anything. arthurrussell Posted February 6 Posted February 6 I got a quick call from a UCSB prof that they are nominating me for a fellowship 😭😭 This is an informal acceptance, right?? I’m so ecstatic. I was really questioning my life this past year, but I’m glad this whole application period is turning out better than I was dreading. I’m waitlisted at UC Davis and it’s driving me crazy wondering how many others are ahead of me on the waitlist etc. This process is so draining☠️🤗

I was admitted to some other great programs, so I was going to go to another school, but after thinking about it, I decided it was more important to be in a program I wanted than to just get the degree. Once I decided to "take a year off," and re-apply for this year, I was relieved. As you've seen from others on this forum, the extra year can have a big impact on your package, your perspective, and your competitiveness, and you would likely have a much better chance of getting into the program you want. I haven't regretted my decisions yet, although I suppose it is too soon to tell, since I haven't been accepted anywhere yet this year. In short, hoping to get off a waitlist is OK, however unlikely, and it is a good opportunity to reflect on what you really want, and figure out how to get there. My ego really wants to get in this year, since I'm self taught, in my early 30s, and haven't gone to art school before. So I feel like I'm giving it my all this year. But I suppose worse comes to worse, it wouldn't be bad to try again next year. We will see. So far I haven't heard back from my number 1 after a good interview, so holding out hope. I think it's cool you decided to give it another go, holding what you value most in mind. Best of luck to you!

I did the in-person grad tour last week, and the admissions folks said the department was in the process of reviewing applications. Last year the Parsons interview requests went out on 14 Feb.

I definitely feel you that the process is draining, and I did it last year, too. I don't have any add'l info yet about UCD, so no clue if or how many they typically take off the waitlist, but don't lose hope. I was so discouraged after last year's applications and the crickets I got in response, but now feeling excited and validated. Fingers crossed you get a good outcome this year, but if not, you'll be stronger for it next year. Essa_ 1
