Is anyone familiar with the wait list system? I'm mainly speaking of Michigan. I've seen both denials and acceptances sent out, and I have yet to hear back. Thanks!

...how are people generally going about visitation weekends? are people missing school to go? I don't know how I feel about going from one coast to another in just one weekend.

I'm also waiting on a few schools, but I'm not sure I am going to visit all of them even if I am accepted. I'll be missing at least every Thursday-Sunday block in March. Luckily, I don't have many classes, but I'm still going to miss my Thursday class. I'm more bummed out about missing time to do work in the lab. :P

I don't have classes on Friday, and then my only Thursday class is a core-cirriculum course so I will not be missing too much. Echoing what was previously said, the thing I will miss most is not getting to spend that time in the lab.

I am in the same boat (with Michigan). I assume as people make their choices and decline acceptances we might get our chance. The first visit weekend is Feb 22-24, I am guessing we might not hear back until after then.

you will all have, well, ALL OF YOUR TIME to spend in the lab pretty soon. calm yourselves.

Sadly, I still need to finish my thesis project first. Just... one... more... data set!

Has anyone heard anything from Pittsburgh or Yale. It seems that everything is taking a lot longer than it seems it should. I haven't got any letters, emails, or anything since I submitted my applications

^ okay so that sounds kind of bad. but I took the same approach applying to grad schools that I did with undergrad...a bunch of top choice/reach schools...and some safeties taht I didnt really like that much

but after seeing what people wrote about how one could always reapply next year, im not too sure about even wanting to go to the safeties even if I got in. I mean there are some professors at the safeties whose research interests me but...

I applied there and am waiting for a decision.  I don't know anyone that goes there, but they seem to have a pretty decent program with lots of funding, and a PI that's doing exactly the type of research I'm looking into.

Rutgers have already had their first visiting weekend (Friday 9th Feb) and will be having their 2nd one on the 8th March. I suspect that means the vast majority of their offers of admission have already been sent out...

Indiana University decisions are out, just got my acceptance email :)

*Bernies*

Same here. Will you be going to the visitation weekend? I know it's pretty late (April 5-7), were you hoping to have your decision made already? Are you visiting all of the schools you were accepted into or only your "top choices"?

I see a lot of Vanderbilt rejections going out, I haven't heard anything yet though. It only seems like they are sending out decisions to international students though (except for one). Has anyone been in contact with the admissions department?

Indiana here as well. The visiting weekend is pretty late, I was definately hoping to have my decision made by then (was planning to make up my mind after the third of a three weekend visiting stretch on March 9th). I do like their department though, so I'll have to think about this. This assumes Yale and Michigan are rejections waiting in the wings. :/

Another Indiana acceptee here! I have a pretty good feeling about their program... unfortunately this puts a lot of pressure to make a decision soon after their visitation weekend is over.

I'm visiting 5 the schools I've gotten into. Indiana's visitation weekend is during my spring break, BUT it runs right into the National ACS convention in New Orleans, so I'm gonna have to coordinate carefully to schedule flights. This is going to be a very busy Spring!

Got into Syracuse University. Still waiting for the official offer in order to determine the exact funding details, but  from the email I received it sounds good. So glad to hear back from a school.

Does anyone know if UNC is still rolling out acceptances, or is it safe to say that no news is bad news at this point?

I applied there too - and their deadline was January 15th.  I'd say that they're still making decisions -- isn't the rule of thumb to start calling/inquiring if it's been 6 weeks past the deadline?

What about UC Davis? Did anybody here apply to their program and has anyone heard back from them yet?

I hope! I was just basing this off of the results page trends - last year, they had sent out all acceptances (except one) in January and then all the rejections rolled out on February 15th (this Friday!). Although, the year before they were sending out acceptances up to February 25th.

UNC's admissions page says that they start giving out domestic acceptances in February. I'd assume the people who got acceptances in January are outstanding applicants.

I also assume that a lot of people who applied to UNC may have also applied to other top schools. UNC may wait to see how many of those people decline before sending out more acceptances. Looking at their admits and enrollment stats on the graduate home website it looks like quite a few people get accepted and don't enroll.

That's how I rationalize in my head that I may still get accepted there.

I am still very optimistic. Someone in my group applied last year and got an acceptance on I think the 14th. I didn't apply until a few hours before the deadline so I sort of expected mine to go down to the last minute.

That makes me feel better. I hope those who've been accepted and don't intend to go decline soon! I am waiting to hear from UNC before I know for sure which schools I'll be visiting. Good luck to everyone that's waiting!
