I've heard that some programs do, but it's not all that common. For the most part I'm relieved that we don't have to…. but any news would be better than waiting for another month. Oof.

Totally. I'm completely stressing out though. I know for Journalism programs that I'm applying to request a video interview, but so far, none of the schools I've applied to for Humanities indicated anywhere on the site or on the apps that they send out rounds of interviews. Either way it makes me nervous...kind of like "Yeah I totally didn't even make it to the first GLANCE, let alone the first round." *cries*

If my signature in part triggered this, keep in mind my applications are in Linguistics this time around (I applied in Lit in 2012) and they run things differently!

Yeah, I'm super stoked but soooo nervous about UCSC. It's an 'informal' interview and I'm not quite sure what that means about my status but I hope it's good.

Guys, I don't mean to freak you out, but Comparative Literature and French started notifying. I'm super nervous now, and I'm feeling very low actually.

The whole not having a favorite/top choice just got a lot harder. This program is already my preference for more than couple reasons, and I just found out an amazing conference opportunity in my subfield is probably happening soon. Sure, I could just go to the conference, but I want to be right where the action is.

One thing that stresses me out about all this is that POIs/AdComs seem to like sending emails at any time. So far my experience is that weekends and evenings aren't even sacred the way I would expect them to be - the first correspondence I got from a program was the Sunday night between Christmas and New Years. It means there's no time that I can kind of lean back and think "well at least I can stop worrying for the next few days" or "tomorrow is the start of a new week with new possibilities!" No more emotional crutches, basically :(

Hmm, I don't think any program notified me over the weekend; Friday evening was the absolute latest. Not that programs (esp. POIs) wouldn't and won't do so, but for the sake of sanity y'all might want to (at least for now) consider weekends to be "safe".

Yeah.  A POI might contact you on a weekend, because that is their own personal time.  But in my multiple application seasons, I have never been contacted on a weekend.  Of course there are exceptions, but take advantage of them and give yourself 2 days to breathe.

Weekends are also the times I will let myself check the results board. Sundays.  Then *generally* I hear about things after the fact, and don't have to start having a full-blown panic attack waiting for my phone to ring or my mail icon to pop up.  It's a sanity saver.

I will say I was notified of an acceptance on a Sunday, but it was just because the DGS was very kind and was only emailing her accepted students in advance of the official notification.  I never got an official notification (either acceptance or rejection) but Monday through Friday.

I got a waitlist admit on a Saturday morning, though I imagine the irregular nature of the waitlist probably leads to stranger timing.

Ahhhhhhhh!

So I'm hoping this isn't some random glitch because I haven't gotten an email or phone call or letter or anything yet, but a little while ago, I took a random glance at the results board and saw a few posts from people saying they'd been accepted at Ohio State. So I just checked my own page on the app status site and it says, "Congratulations - you have been offered admission!"

Ahhhhhhhh! *flails Kermit-style*

I'm in the same boat! I checked and received the same message last night, which is just peachy considering it was also my birthday.  :) I am banking on it not being a glitch because it also links to a page where you can accept or deny the admission's decision with the graduate school. Though I am, too, still waiting on some more info about funding from the department!

Oh, and congrats! We might be colleagues!

Congrats! As I understand it, early admission is tied (exclusively?) to nomination for the graduate school wide fellowships. So, double congrats. That said, it will likely be a few days before you get a call or email (I got mine at like 8pm on Saturday a few days after the site switched over). If you have any questions about OSU/Columbus/etc feel free to PM me, though I'm not on here overly much.

Yeah I saw the accept/deny link so it seems to be fairly official hehe.

Also, yay for possible colleagues!

Congrats you guys! Go celebrate in the acceptance thread!

I'm really trying to enjoy this ignorance. The last day or maybe week of dreaming. But regardless, I still check this often. And by often, I mean every 30 seconds...

I've been intentionally absent from the GC since September, but I'm throwing my lot in and wishing everyone the best of luck now that notifications are starting to come in. I've agonized over this process for the better part of a year and I'm relieved to be able to say all of my apps are done. I'm not terribly confident in my chances, but I've learned a great deal for next year's round of apps.

Now I'm going to go check the results board for the millionth time today...

Last year I received a phone call on a Saturday night as an acceptance. It can happen at any time.

AHA! I knew I wasn't ever safe. Thanks for fueling my paranoia :D

You know what's annoying? When you check your app to see if they finally received everything and you click on "view your application." And then the first word is "Congratulations!" You get excited and are "Is this real life?!" and then you read on and they're just congratulating you that you submitted your application. :|

Haha!  I totally agree! I got an email from the grad coordinator of one school that said "congratulations," and I had a mini heart attack until I realized it only said that I have completed my app.  I have been absent since September too.  My dh got transferred, so my options for applications were severely limited, and my life has been crazy getting all my kiddos settled.  I can barely breath from nervousness. Hey, miracles happen, right?  I've missed you all.
