timeless90 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 hey guys, so the MIT acceptance is real???
cupofnimbus Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Yeah. I never trust St. Eds. Especially because I've apparently been targeted for two of their programs, so I'll get two emails within 3 minutes of each other and all that's changed is the name of the program. Yeah, and I get excited when I see "University" something in my email. When I realize it's just them again, I don't even read it, I just savagely delete it as quickly as possible.
RCD2 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Claiming an MIT acceptance. It was a call from POI. This is my first acceptance, I feel so relieved! bassoonist, veritaserum, wokeem and 2 others 5
timeless90 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Congrats!! Seems like they are slowly releasing their results!
RCD2 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I may not remember this correctly, but I think my POI mentioned in the call that official emails will go out tomorrow. So if you didn't get a call, no worries, other profs may handle this differently. veritaserum 1
scdp Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Congratulations! Noticed that you're listed as international on the results page; may I ask where you're located presently? I'm Canadian. woodpecker2014 1
woodpecker2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Claiming a Stanford offer (comparative)! Only recently discovered the gradcafe...yay to my first post!! Chamberlain25 and chaetzli 2

deltaqsquared Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 first post! had to vent out ~ Comparative: Emory acceptance, Cornell wait-list, Berkeley/Princeton rejections - MIT please, please, & please call/ email me tomorrow! Phone's fully charged~ Comparative here as well. Not optimistic about MIT though, for myself. As I keep repeating in despair, I don't really care where anymore, but rather would like to go where ever I may be accepted.
zudei Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Were all admitted international students called by Stanford too?
gerasy Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Were all admitted international students called by Stanford too? I second this question. Never received a call from them, but still hoping...
guest2401 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Were all admitted international students called by Stanford too? There's all reason for hope. If they called US numbers at 1am GMT, they would have to wait to the next morning to call Europeans, for example.
zudei Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I second this question. Never received a call from them, but still hoping... I am giving myself one day to hope
IRToni Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 There's all reason for hope. If they called US numbers at 1am GMT, they would have to wait to the next morning to call Europeans, for example. That's my reasoning as well! Guess hope dies last...
ensli Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I'm just curious - how did you folks handle the phone call? Were you audibly stoked, or did you keep your cool?
jane4jane4 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Wondering if there's any room for hope for Columbia or not..if they announced the acceptances yesterday, should I take it as a no?
ensli Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Wondering if there's any room for hope for Columbia or not..if they announced the acceptances yesterday, should I take it as a no? I'm in the same boat. There's a subtle difference between assuming rejection (which you shouldn't actually do because you haven't been rejected yet) and preparing yourself for rejection. I do the latter.
RCD2 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Wondering if there's any room for hope for Columbia or not..if they announced the acceptances yesterday, should I take it as a no? Based on past experience, I think we have to take it as a No...
IRToni Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Wondering if there's any room for hope for Columbia or not..if they announced the acceptances yesterday, should I take it as a no? I have no idea. In the last couple of years, it took Columbia a while, and they actually did several rounds. However, some people were WL at Columbia already, so no idea! Might be worth sending an email?
cooperstreet Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 FWIW, If you check off that you would like to be considered for the MA program at Columbia it will take A LONG DAMN TIME to get an official rejection.
jane4jane4 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Yep, sending an email if they haven't notified by next Wednesday (one week after first acceptances) makes sense.
packrat Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Is there an official grad dept (or grad administrator) email for Columbia? The only one I saw was for GSAS and I'm guessing we could get a quicker response with the former...

BackyardBrawl Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Update on UNC for anyone who's interested: They made a first round of initial decisions, but they usually do a wait list. The DGS mentioned a "first-cut" of admits, so I'm not sure if that means there will be a second round or just the wait list to follow. Apparently, there is still light at the end of the tunnel.
