DontgetaPHD Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I don't even know where that is... TheGnome and xuejia 1 1
IRToni Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Anyone willing to claim the new Pitt acceptance? Congrats!
TakeMyCoffeeBlack Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Just got into Georgetown for IR. Will I get a job coming out of this program? Georgetown has placements outsizing its rank because of the name recognition. Funding is the key there.
chaetzli Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I don't want to be that asshole that gets an offer at SUNY New Paltz... Getting a job at SUNY (who cares where) is actually pretty good… and there were many smart people on the market this year who couldn't get a job like that. AuldReekie and mooneyed 2
DontgetaPHD Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Georgetown has placements outsizing its rank because of the name recognition. Funding is the key there. That seems unlikely. So hiring committees were thinking "hey, I've heard of Georgetown..."?

TakeMyCoffeeBlack Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 That seems unlikely. So hiring committees were thinking "hey, I've heard of Georgetown..."? I don't know that you're serious and not just a troll, but giving you the benefit of the doubt: Absolutely. 100%. Georgetown has name recognition for the committees themselves, but don't forget that where professors have their Ph.D.s can also play a role for future students (undergraduate and graduate). More undergraduates are going to recognize Georgetown than quite a few top 20s. Of course those top 20s will generally do better than Georgetown, but Georgetown competes relatively well.
TheGnome Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Like whom? Back to PSR please TakeMyCoffeeBlack, AuldReekie, chaetzli and 4 others 7
chaetzli Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Like whom? You do not really expect an answer to this, do you?
mv0027 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 first time I school I applied to released results and I haven't heard from them yet. Yup. I see how this can be difficult. eh.

DontgetaPHD Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Back to PSR please Oh please, a PSR troll would be much more cruel.

xuejia Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 PSR trolls, so long as they aren't being douchey bigots, are kinda funny. I now have a daily habit of checking PSR for my daily laugh quota. Poli92 1
TheGnome Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I will go ahead and claim one of the Pitt. E-mail was from the DGS - seems like a mass e-mail. Funding info etc. came attached. From the e-mail it is not possible to get a sense of whether they sent notifications to everyone, or doing it in waves or something else. So there may be hope yet for those still waiting to hear. Hope this helps Poli92, kal5 and mooneyed 3
ohhemingway Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I can claim one of the Berkeley acceptances. Very excited mooneyed, veritaserum, TheGnome and 1 other 4

catchermiscount Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I would like to hear what CoachRJC has to say about Georgetown. I'm a big fan of the Princeton offense, and I think JT3 will get them turned around this year. The Big East is wide open. Poli92, xuejia, TheGnome and 1 other 4
