letsgo2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 A very belated congrats to AuldReekie! Even know i don't know you aside from this DB, I feel happy that you got in to one of the programs you wanted.
bob123 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Ugh. Protip: don't go back and re-read your Personal Statement months after you've sent it. What an overwrought piece of garbage I wrote. GomSaem (Bear Teacher), wcsy, Hopeful21 and 2 others 5
ani11 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 First PhD acceptance! Email from Texas A&M Prof. to IR admits (11 admits). Can say I honestly wouldn't have been accepted without the help of many people on this forum and the advice passed down over the years. Thanks GradCafe Nicely done mate!
Duvergerian Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Congratulations AuldReekie! And everyone else who received acceptances.

Darth Game Theory Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 UCSD rejection. First official decision. Just...fuck!
titioh Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 UCSD rejection.. at least they let me know early of the decision. I prefer earlier notification of my rejection over having me hanging on the string...e.g. chicago or NW
Evgeny55 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Rejected in UCSD. I now start worrying whether it is due to the fact that I am international student or my SOP wasn't good enough. It was the same SOP as for Stanford, that is why I am worried. Hope for NYU and Rochester decisions today.
meteora Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 As far as I remember, someone wrote that s/he would send an email to Northwestern to check what was going on there. It looks one was officially rejected and another person was wait-listed. However, my status was not changed. Does anyone have an idea?
Lapavitsovaroufakis Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 This week, and the next, will most probably be the killer weeks. delete-it and Lapavitsovaroufakis 2
SwitchInTime Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Also rejected at UCSD. They wanted to reject me so much they got up in the middle of the night to do it. Congrats to those who got in, though!
fakeusername Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Nothing like a 3am email to make sure everyone starts their day right. Bummer. NYCBluenose and throwaway123456789 2
mb712 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 (edited) Also rejected at UCSD. They wanted to reject me so much they got up in the middle of the night to do it. Congrats to those who got in, though! Their psychology department did that too. Always fun waking up to see you received a rejection email at 2am. Edited February 4, 2015 by mb712
wcsy Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Could someone claim the UCSD offer on result page? My inbox has been silent. And huge congrats.
PrincipalAgent Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I got nothing so far from UCSD... does it show up in your application status page?
HopefulNeurotic Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Also silent for UCSD. Sadly, I don't think it means anything as it looks like notifications have gone out in batches past cycles. Anxiety on high over here!
mooneyed Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 (edited) Okay, yeah, I've seen that...the only thing is, that's from 2007, and it seems to me that significant movement can happen over 8 years. It might be worth checking if they have an updated dataset, but considering the topic, I'd be a bit surprised. The problem with the Oprisko paper that the other doesn't *seem* to have is that it only counts the placements at Ph.D. granting institutions. That leaves out a lot of colleges & universities that may only have undergraduate or Master's level polisci programs. I know that may not be the dream placement for many, but in a very competitive market, a job is nice to have even if it isn't R1 or Ph.D. granting. I'd like to see a more comprehensive study, or perhaps one that broke it down by type of institution Ph.D. candidates were placed at & their numbers. Edited February 4, 2015 by mooneyed rwillh11 1
Duvergerian Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 A note on WUSTL: According to their website, admissions are sent out via mail. It's possible an unofficial email will go out as well, but you might be better served learning the postal workers' schedule instead of continually refreshing your inbox.
panda b Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Does anyone have any idea when UCLA will be sending out their decisions? It was around this time last year, so just curious..
NMLogan Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 This is unofficial, but I've heard through the grapevine that it will be by the end of the week...
waitinandstressin Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Could someone claim the UCSD offer on result page? My inbox has been silent. And huge congrats. Yup, that was me. Got the email at around 3am from the Grad School, seemed formulaic.
