@pinkdragonslayer76 @ChrisTOEFert @hippyscientist @marycaryne Thanks everyone for the sympathy and kind words. I did get waitlisted this morning from Florida State, one of my top choices, so that is something to be excited about! Takes the sting of rejection away for a bit. :) Happy Friday!

One of the schools I've been expecting a rejection from (a bunch of acceptances and waitlists posted a couple weeks ago, but nothing else) had exactly *one* person post a rejection. Sometimes I really don't get this process!

@PattiJeane That's awesome! I am waiting to hear back from from Florida State, which is my top choice. :)

Maybe we'll both end up there and can get together for coffee! (Wishful thinking takes up so much of my time these days.)

The stars really aligned for me as I hadn't had any offers before getting this great news.

Congrats! :D

Well I'm honestly surprised, but also not surprised. MSU rejection rolled in today, despite having a pretty great interview (or so I thought). I wonder if perhaps they just didn't think I was a good fit. Either way, there goes what I had assumed to be my best shot.

I guess I'll be figuring out how to improve things for next cycle. Can't wait to be unmarried at 29 and starting a PhD.

You still have 7 schools left right? There's still a chance. Not that that really helps to hear.

If all else fails... I applied to 4 schools last year (which is pretty average for my field) and didn't get into a single one. And this year I did, despite only applying to 1. So even if you don't get in this year... there's always the chance for next year. (With a lot more time to prepare) Not that that helps to hear either.

@katpillow I'm sorry man, but there's still a few more to hear from and it's not over until the fat lady sings!! This is a tough process and it really sucks to get rejected multiple times, but I honestly believe that everything happens for a reason, and if things don't work out this cycle, it's because something better and more attuned to you will come along. Unfortunately life doesn't happen how we want it to, but it makes us better people. Okay, have I lived up to my username sufficiently?

Thanks @sjoh197, I do appreciate the encouragement, as well as the familiarity with the feeling.

It's just particularly frustrating because of the whole starting the process a couple years later than desired in the first place. If it had been a reasonable or attainable option immediately out of school, I probably would have bolstered myself with a masters before jumping into this process. My credentials never would have gotten me in anywhere back then, nor was I in a good place for it mentally, anyways. Many people here who know the feeling of sacrifice in pursuit of this goal, and I'm glad at least I can share in that, I suppose.

Still waiting on the last one, been weeks now. I see loads of rejections in the department but it's a different area. They're general graduate school rejections, not even from the department itself, which might be why the wait is so long.

This is really driving me crazy. I hope they make a decision soon. They sent out some acceptances three weeks ago.

GUYS! I was accepted to another school! This one is waiving out-of-state tuition (making this school much cheaper than the other I was accepted to so far) plus giving me a stipend that will cover the tuition with a few extra thousand to spare. Cost of living is much lower at this school, as well. Plus it is a few hours drive from home rather than across the country. Downside is that the school isn't as "prestigious" as my other acceptance though that doesn't matter that much to me personally. One more school to go, but the fact that I could manage to attend a school close to home might be too tempting to pass up. The last school I am waiting on is also across the country, but if I'm accepted is likely to give me better funding. AHH!

I'm only waiting one one. more. program. I called them earlier this week and my application is "in the review stage" (after two months). I just want all the decision information so I can finish my program comparison spreadsheet!

Finally rejected from the program I've been waiting on for 20 days. Kinda salty since it took so long because the department delegated the rejection duty to the school. Would probably not want to go to a school that alienates/frustrates its rejected applicants. The results board is full of salt and whine because the department didn't even have the decency to notify rejected applicants until almost a month later.

I was, however, accepted to three out of five programs, as well as one of my top choices. It's more prestigious than the aforementioned program, but not as funded.

I wish everyone else well in this admissions cycle!

It seems like my first choice program tend to make admission decisions pretty late in the season (end of March to early April). The wait is killing me....

Thank you! This is my second application season. I was shut out the first time. This year I didn't get my first decision until the beginning of this month. The waiting is awful. I was so jealous of the people getting results in January and February. So I know how you feel. I wish you all the best! :)

Ok so not really whining or waiting (though there's been plenty of wine) at the moment but I am totally laughing at my latest *duh* moment.  So for years I've heard people talk about R1 universities and I knew that meant research, but I didn't really get it.  I just kind of nodded and smiled when people mentioned going to or applying to R1 universities.  So for whatever reason I got seriously annoyed hearing people mention the mysterious R1 today and finally looked it up.  Totally makes sense and then I realized more than half the schools I applied to are classified as R1.  Wow I aimed pretty high lmao!

Interesting that you bring this up, I just looked up the list too and ALL the schools I applied to plus the 4 or more I decided I'd apply to next application season if this one doesn't work out are all R1. Guess I don't go for the easy route haha.

The one program that has accepted me so far at the start of the process was my "god do I even bother applying there" school. As it turns out, I might have judged prematurely because as my research interests have matured over this year of my MSc I actually think it's going to be the best fit for me. There's a phrase on the lab's facebook page about the lab mentality that 100% matches my own, they seem to go out for beers together and rock climb/socialise together too. I'm getting really excited about being part of that team. JUST. LET. ME. KNOW. ABOUT. FUNDING.
