Projected Acceptance Dates for English PHD programs

Recommended Posts

It's freaking me out that Irvine (Feb 4) and Davis (last weekend) have results on the board. Actually I just checked and now Riverside (last couple days) has a few up too! AUGH

Like... I am not expecting good news. But I feel like once I formally get rejected (or accepted?? stranger things have happened on this earth, but probably not by much) I can focus on thinking through the next step.

The feeling is mutual =_=

someone on this forum said Irvine might do their acceptances on Friday (they got accepted unofficially via phone call and emails might be Friday), and I’m hoping Riverside will send theirs out over the course of the weekend or the week at most based on some posts here. No word on Davis sadly.

Thanks, good info. Crossing my fingers for you and me both!

Fellow Californian? I think I would like to stay somewhat near home/family/friends for this whole ordeal, since I feel like I'm gonna need the heck out of my support network, but it ain't looking too good from here.

As a Californian who did my Masters at NYU and am now only applying to west coast schools -- STAY HERE LOL.  My first year at NYU was the most depressed year of my life, for real.  Support networks (and though it sounds still, sun) are so important.

My first year at NYU

ikr! I interned for a summer in NYC in college and it was shockingly hard on me. There were things I liked about the city, but it just isn't my kind of place. When I was applying for schools this year, my first filter was to nix any program in NY. No offense, New Yorkers! I used to want a career in publishing, so I guess I'm kind of glad I switched gears.

I would love to, but it's sure going to be hard if my only acceptance so far remains my only acceptance, since it's in the Midwest. If only Riverside would call me.

CONGRATS on Riverside, by the way!!!

Thank youuuu! <3 I've said this elsewhere, but I definitely wouldn't count them out until at least a week from now!  If you don't mind my asking, what's your specialization?

@chellyfish_ Rhet/comp! I'm interested in pedagogy and the relationship between comp education in K-12 and in college, and therapeutic writing, especially in clinical contexts.

Yeah, I'm sitting tight! I regret so many things about my UCR application though. I opened my SOP a minute ago to double-check who I mentioned as POIs and boy, it is capital-B Bad. It was my earliest deadline--my later apps benefited a lot from what I learned throughout the process.

As much as I wish I could stay in California, a part of me is also beginning to think it's kind of a romantic idea to pack it all up and move to the Midwest. But thinking too much about it before I get results from all the other places feels so silly!

Come on, Tufts. Let's hear it from you today.

@punctilious

Ugh, please Tufts! Why must you torment us?!

Also, BU. I'm really wondering what's going on with them, and having looked at the lack of results listed from last year, I am nervous about the possibility of them already having sent out acceptances but we just don't know because no one else on the GC got one?

You know, I almost applied to BU! But the faculty member that I was dying to work with just retired. Maybe they’re just running a bit behind this year? I don’t know when they usually post, but they could have a new administration or DGS. Anything could happen! If this year has taught me anything, it’s that it’s definitely not over until the rejection is in your inbox.

Haha, thank you so much for that! It is entirely possible that they are running behind or just have a different plan for this year, since the deadline changed from December 15 to January 5 and there is a new DGS. I do hope that we hear from them soon, though, since it is one of our top choices.

Oh no in my food-deprived state I read that as you have gotten good news already. Oh no oh no, I am sorry !

I wish! We are eagerly awaiting a call. And by that I mean I am sitting here obsessively checking the results board and my husband is playing Shadow of War.

Where are my fellow Brown applicants? Could anyone give insight into what's going on? We have heard nothing--is it possible that there may be another round of acceptances or possibly waitlists on the horizon?

I got an email @punctilious

I'm not sure if wait lists have gone out? I doubt there are more acceptances

Huh. It's just so weird that we've gotten nothing and the portal has no update. I'm not sure what to think of it.

Edit: I see now that someone from last year's cycle had to call Brown to inquire about their application status because they hadn't heard anything by mid-late March, and Brown informed them they'd been rejected. I really do not want to deal with something like that. It sucks that it's now the weekend, because he can't call to ask.

Got an email to check portal, rejected.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Still nothing on our end, in the portal or via email. I wish they'd just tell us one way or another.
