  1. Those are all really good ideas. Especially planning networking, extracurriculars and checking our current student CVs! I found this post that has an example: http://theprofessorisin.com/2014/05/09/in-response-to-popular-demand-more-on-the-5-year-plan/ i think I'll get on the ball and create a rough outline and then talk to my current mentor for ideas and then present it to my new advisor once the semester starts to get it tailored to my program.
  2. Hi all, Now that I have secured a spot in a PhD program, I need to look forward and start with a new plan so that I prioritize important steps and maximize my time in my program. I'm thinking of creating a 5 year plan. Is anyone else doing this? What's in your plan? What things are you hoping to to accomplish while in your grad program?
  3. A school I was waitlisted at told me that in a normal year, I would have been accepted by now, but they are having issues with funding. My POI just got a new student last cycle, and with a cohort of 2-4 students, it makes sense that they would want to make space for other POIs to get new students too. I have no idea where the funding issues stem from, but it's really unfortunate.
  4. They started extending offers the week after the interviews. Hope this helps!
  5. UD had interviews last Monday and Friday. Hope this helps!
  6. I agree with the posters above. If you do decide to do a Clinical masters, I strongly suggest that you take thesis defense route rather than comp exams. it looks good on your record and adds another potential publication.
  7. I had a really good experience---the person I stayed with was a student in the lab I was applying to work in. I got to know them and they gave me good feedback about what it's like to work under my POI. They were very candid about school life and how they managed things and got along with others. And as you know, the interview starts from the moment you get to the campus, even when things are casual; and I think we hit it off well, which would only help to put me in an good light.
  8. Does anyone know if that Temple Developmental Psych acceptance on the results page is real? The interviews just happened on Monday.
  9. Maybe you can email back and say something like, "Great, I'd love the opportunity to have a Skype interview with you. On a typical week, I am working and or in class during these ours, but other than that I am free. I look forward to hearing from you"
  10. @FacelessMage I see that you got a Drexel interview. Did it come from your POI or was it a general e-mail from the DCT, Grad coordinator, etc? I know that my fit wasn't perfect with my POI, so I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't get an invite. I just would rather know than not.
  11. It seems like you're a top applicant--- I'm assuming they think so too since they want to interview you. So they have to know that you have interviews elsewhere. If your going to cancel anyway, I don't think it's wrong to say something like: I am honored to receive an invitation to interview. Unfortunately, I am unavailable to interview on that particular date. Is there any flexibility in terms of when I can set-up my interview? I am open to Skype interviews as well, if that helps to provide more possible dates. I would hate to miss such a great opportunity to meet you and the rest of the department. Thank you for your consideration, Blah Blah
  12. I'll be at Temple's interview day too! Good luck (unless you want to work with my POI....LOL...j/k)
  13. That moment when you're waiting to hear back about interviews and you get an e-mail notification containing the words "office of admissions", only to open it and see its spam from that stupid GRE school referral service.
  14. I agree. The two interviews I got were at least a month in advance, I'm assuming that most of them are about the same.
  15. I only applied to 3 schools, and they all had early December deadlines, so I lucked out in that way.
  16. For all the folks stalking Drexel---I heard from one of the people who posted their interview, that we should hear by the end of the week, which is in line with what happened last year for Drexel. It's the last school I'm waiting to hear from!
  17. I'm not taking mine out, I never do. But I have a small stud----I only wear my hoop when out with friends. I hope that's not an issue, but honestly I'm going to wear it all the time if I'm admitted, so I guess it makes sense to just keep it in.
  18. Does anyone actually share their POI info? I asked up thread, but shortly after realized I've never seen anyone actually share them. What are the issues with doing so? Are people worried that what they post here will some how get back to their POI?
  19. The person who got the phone interview DM'd us and said that according to their information all in-person invites should be out by next week. They aren't comfortable sharing the POI, which is understandable.
  20. I emailed all 3 schools I applied too, I heard back from one and that's the school I haven't got an interview from...LOL (there's still time, luckily). But it's definitely hit or miss. And my e-mails didn't have any CVs, pubs or anything like that attached. I just emailed questions about their labs and the program to determine fit.
