I would try arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi schools! I was in the same boat and then I applied to all out of state schools and got into every single one. Just look at the tuition first.

Does anyone have a resource on the percentage of people who get into grad school every year? I know it's an inflated number and that there are other factors to play but I'm just looking for a cited percentage or anything close to it. I've looked on asha and haven't really found anything. Would anyone be able to guide me in the right direction?

Transferring Graduate SLP Programs
Speechster replied to SpeechLaedy's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I think it would be hard since they have their cohort already set and their class sequence may be different from the school you are going to go to. It can be done, but I think the chances are pretty slim and it will take you longer to graduate to get on their sequence -

You can look for GAships in other places too! Good luck! -

Hello! I was in a similar situation when u started. Look and see if there is any kind of tuition waiver or GAship type thing you can do to help reduce the cost. Like the previous poster said, do you have to take the full amount or can you just take out the tuition part? I think you can only take out 120k max, so I would definitely look into other options before you apply again. Good luck! -

Technically the only thing you can do with it is be an slpa if your state allows it. But a lot of ppl do something in the special ed route like a para or tss, or the aba route like an rbt. Good luck!

Laptop Recommendations?
Speechster replied to futureslp112's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I think any laptop is fine as long as you dont have to run any huge programs. We mainly just use word at my school along with ppts and videos. I have a 2012 macbook and its gets the job done with no complaints. We just take a surge protector to class so multiple people can plug in their laptops during class since there are only a few outlets. Pretty much everyone takes notes on their mac. A few have windows and some hand write their notes. But no one has mentioned anything about their computer. Good luck in grad school!- 7 replies

What to purchase before starting grad school
Speechster replied to Meaganm15's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I would wait until you get your dress code before buying anything. As for your materials, i brought all my stuff with me because i had no place to store it (i was also an SLPA), and it has been really helpful so far. If you can bring them, i totally would. -
Your new gpa has to be above 3.0? 9 hours is typically full time for grad school, so i think they are saying they will fully accept you if you maintain a 3.0 the first semester, which you would have to do anyway. You get a clean slate in grad school with your gpa and start with a 0.0 until your first semester when it switches to whatever you got. You will be fine they probably tell everyone that.

Question about assistantships/GA
Speechster replied to 2020slp's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I think it depends on funding. At our school we get our out of state fees waived and a stipend. But if you are in state you get the stipend, not reduced tuition. -
Question about assistantships/GA
Speechster replied to 2020slp's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
No i think its okay as long as you just clarify and dont hound it. They have so much other stuff going on they will probably forget. I promise they dont have a running tally of stuff like that when looking at applications... Unless you email them every other day or something like that. ?
