  1. CUNY Queens sent out invites before Christmas and my interview day was in mid/late January. I haven't seen any decision statuses at all on the results page nor on these threads. Does anyone have any info? Looking at past decisions, it seems like they tend to give notice by now..
  2. My GRE Q is a tad lower compared to the averages of programs I didn't hear from. But, I did get 4/8 interviews this cycle (my first) and some of the programs were truly reaches anyway. I'll also never know if I was nixed solely due to GRE Q, or it could be other red flags in my app (like withdrawing from two classes in undergrad because I didn't think I'd ever be applying to grad school anyway). Thanks for the response! I really appreciate your thoughts!
  3. Wow, that's an amazing improvement! Nice work! How often over the six months were you studying? Hours per week if you could estimate? I've been accepted to my safety school, but I'm wondering if working on the GRE will open up more doors for me if I apply again next year.
  4. Thank you. I'm waiting for notice from one of the other schools.
  5. To the City University of New York (CUNY) posters - which school in the system are you referring to?
  6. When weighing options for entrance into PhD programs, should R1 vs. R2 vs. R3 institutions be a consideration? Or does this only matter when applying for academic jobs later on?
  7. Thanks @8BitJourney, that makes a lot of sense. Wish I knew where I was for sure on the waitlist, but yeah, I guess it doesn't seem as though I'm very high on the list
  8. I was/am in this situation. What you mentioned (emailing #1 school and letting them know they were a better fit) was advice I was previously given, so I did this. However, it didn't seem to work in my favor? Response a bit wishy washy; pretty much encouraged me to take the other offer due to a long wait list. I had not heard from them post-interview so it was news to me that I was now wait-listed and it almost sounded like a rejection. Thoughts? I did email them back to re-emphasize they were my a better fit for me compared to other program, and I would be willing to wait if the list moved. I wouldn't be too surprised if I hear back from #1 saying that I'm now rejected. I got the feeling it was almost worse to follow up with them and let them know about the other offer. I have no idea though. If I'm not rejected, why would the admins tell to take something else?
  9. @Peanut, I'm sorry to hear about your situation. It's not over yet! I know a couple people who got accepted from the waitlist on April 14th. I'm wondering, does any part of you wish you had accepted the program w/ minimal funding from last year? This is my first round and I've been accepted to a PhD program like that as well. It's my only opportunity so far; waitlisted from others, so I too am losing hope about better-funded programs. Really debating whether to accept the offer I have.
  10. Hi @Brightstar3, did you ever end up accepting this program/the debt?
  11. Thank you everyone for the thoughts!!! @COGSCI, what do you mean by "work with your POI" - do you mean try to be her RA in the meantime? Or do you mean just try and discuss the matter with her, and help her submit grants? I do know she was scored on a recent submission, not funded, but will try again.. I don't know how likely resubmits are to be funded. And thanks for the kind words about the moving list.. I sure hope you're right @refreshingmyemail Yep, I got the exact same feeling from the current students! Are you leaning towards taking it? @juhidee119 @summavanlaude It's great to hear your perspective with this. I haven't had this experience yet so it's hard to really know if pursuing this is worth it financially.
  12. Hi! @katiegud, I'm kind of in the same boat you were in a few years ago. What did you end up deciding? If you decided to take the unfunded offer, how did that work out for you?
  13. Hi all! I was recently accepted into a Clinical Psychology PhD program. I enjoyed everything about the interview days (even meeting the other applicants) and had that really great gut feeling about the program afterwards. Research-wise, it's what I want to do and the POI seems great. I've heard all good things from students. Other faculty research is also interesting and there's potential for collaboration. Now, however, I have received the verbal offer and reality is sinking in. There may be some GA/TA opportunities down the line, but nothing guaranteed. My POI is seeking grants but again nothing official. I would have to pay tuition; pretty minimal but typically this is waived for PhD programs.. and then there's cost of living. Which won't be too bad because it's a small town, but obviously the fees will eventually pile up as I have to pay tuition + have no stipend + probably won't be able to make outside money if I want to keep sane. I'm wait-listed from other schools with better funding. If this is my only choice.. do I accept? Thoughts? What would others do? Has anyone been in this boat before and how has it worked out?
  14. Purely for pre-reqs, I recommend Harvard Extension School (for quality + financial value; it's relatively cheap compared to similar programs): https://www.extension.harvard.edu/ Most can be taken online.
  15. Consider Harvard Extension School for relevant courses: https://www.extension.harvard.edu I'm not sure about currently, but I know a few years ago this was cheaper than other similar online programs.
  16. I was worried about this as well for one of my interviews. I did end up wearing black tights with a dress because they were my thickest pair and it was so cold! I really don't think anyone should be docked for this..
  17. I have spoken with a good amount of faculty by now, and MOST have been.. - They tell me about the lab/research/program -"What questions do you have for me?" So for the majority of the interview, I was asking the questions.
  18. Sounds like a good plan. Thanks and best of luck!
  19. Update to anyone who remembers my question about wearing a white dress.. during interview day, a faculty member commented to me that she liked my outfit! Nice and bright Thoughhhh I will NEVER wear white again if I can help it. It was my first in-house interview and I did not anticipate that I would "perspire" as much as I did #lessonlearned
  20. I received an invite to interview for Yeshiva University's Clinical Psychology (Health Emphasis) PhD program. The day is from 11:45am-3pm. They made no mention of lunch being part of this, so should I assume there is none? Or should I email and ask, if that's not weird? Does anyone else invited (or interviewed in the past) have more insight? Thanks!
  21. I actually really like that outfit. I'm a fan of the color pink though, and don't understand conservative pantsuits.
  22. Haha, thank you!! Good advice about the 2-color rule, I'll think about that. Who knew this would require so much thought
  23. I would go with the nude, as everything else is black. Hard to say without seeing the outfit (because the textures/materials make a difference), but I would be safe with the nude.
  24. Very glad that others share this view! Thoughts on a navy blazer, white shift dress, and pink heels? I laid out my options yesterday and that's my ideal outfit but I could swap the white dress for a black one (though it's more boring) I feel silly thinking so much about clothes; I'm def preparing for the speaking portion of the interview though
