  1. Program Applied To: (MPA, MPP, etc.) : HKS (MPA/ID), WWS (MPA), SIPA (MPA-EPM), Georgetown (MIDP), Wagner (MPA), CIPA (MPA), Sanford (MPP), Heinz (MSPPM), Ford (MPP), LBJ (MPAff), Maxwell (MPA) Schools Applied To: HKS, WWS, SIPA, Georgetown, Wagner, CIPA, Sanford, Heinz, Ford, LBJ, Maxwell Schools Admitted To: SIPA (?), Maxwell (?), LBJ (?), CIPA (42%), Sanford (46%), Wagner (?), McCourt (49%), Ford (50%), and HKS (100% JJ/WBGSP!) Schools Rejected From: WWS Still Waiting: Heinz Undergraduate institution: Top public university (Argentina) Undergraduate GPA: 3.5 Undergraduate Major: Economics Graduate institution: Top University (Argentina) Graduate GPA: 3.8 Graduate Major: MPP GRE Quantitative Score: 161 GRE Verbal Score: 163 GRE AW Score: 3.5 TOEFL: 105/120 Scholarship: Fulbright Describe Relevant Work Experience: - 1 year as research economist at a top local economic consultancy - 4.5 years (ongoing) at the public pension fund of my country. I have experience in the design/implementation of housing and social policies and in infrastructure investment (Plus some extra part-time/consulting/volunteering before and after graduating) Strength of SOP (be honest, describe the process, etc): While every school asks for different focus in their essays, I think that a good advice could be to structure a long Personal Statement and a maybe a Policy essay and then work with them as a draft. As I suppose happen to everyone, my essays got better in every application. So definitely start as early as possible, the editing process never ends. Strength of LOR's (be honest, describe the process, etc): I decided to submit 3 LORs for every school. As I believe that my work experience was my strength, I submitted 2 professional LORs who have supervised my work in different areas and my graduate thesis director (and professor in my economics degree). I hope this helps!
  2. Thanks!! I have received a separate mail from the JJWBGSP and it also appears on my MYFAID portal. They release the awards on a rolling basis: "The JJWBGSP Secretariat presents the finalists for partnership scholarship to the World Bank’s Executive Director for Japan for approval on a rolling basis, matching the JJWBGSP Partner university’s admission cycle. The Secretariat informs the scholarship winners to a partner master degree program soon after approval." (http://www.worldbank.org/en/programs/scholarships#3)
  3. I got the JJ/WBGSP to the MPA/ID!!!
  4. in! MPA/ID
  5. In with 50%! Still waiting to hear from HKS and WWS
  6. I am in also in the MIDP with a $25k scholarship for the first year!
  7. No, I live in Argentina so its a long an expensive trip. Are you attending?
  8. Congratulations @tristatequeen! I am in the same situation, I received a similar amount of funding ($16K per year) and I am waiting to hear from other programs
  9. Hi, I got also selected to the program! I have been shortlisted to the JJ/WBSGP, yet I am still waiting to hear from them (does anyone received an email from them?).
  10. Congratulations @tristatequeen on your admission! When did you apply?
  11. Has anyone received an application response? When did you apply?
  12. I have been browsing the forums for some time now but haven't found any applicants to Cornell CIPA 2018. Has anyone heard from CIPA, or does anyone have an idea of what their timeline is this year? I submitted my application January 15 and I am waiting since then
  13. Mine was something like: "What fundamental knowledge have you learned at Elementary School?"
  14. Hey, As a Fulbright candidate, I was advised by my IIE Placement Officer to apply to the MA in Sustainable International Development (Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University, link: http://heller.brandeis.edu/sustainable-international-development/index.html). I read that they are very strong at social policy but I was thinking to concentrate more on the economic/quant part of development (as Harvard MPA-ID). I would like to know about of this program, so everything that you can tell me is going to be great! (focus, quant skills, average GRE, scholarships, class size, career path, etc). Finally, I attached a link to my description for more information: https://forum.thegradcafe.com/topic/23492-the-am-i-competitive-thread-read-me-before-posting/?do=findComment&comment=1058521623 Thanks!!
  15. Thanks @makingtheleap.back!!! Do you know if the scholarships are available in the "same" amount for both programs (MPP and MIDP)? Also, how different are the MPP (International Development Policy Concentration) from MIDP? As I'm from Argentina and I can't stay in the US after my master (fulbright scholarship), it's imposible to me to have a lot of debt, here the salaries are far from what yo can expect in the US. Finally, I attached a link to my description, I would apreciate if you have some advice:
  16. Thanks for the post!! I´m applying to Duke MPP and I want to ask about your experience there (class, professors, city, etc) and about the scholarships. Also, it would be helpful to know about your application process and some tips you would like to share.
  17. Thanks!! Yes, I know that I have to explain it and that MPPs/MPAs curriculums tend to be similar. My MPP was "aimed" towards a general public (more than 75% of my classmates were lawyers or political scientists) and I want to focus on economic/financial policy and development with an emphasis on quantitative methods. I think that my MPP (and my experience) will allow me to enrich the debates. My goal is not to work in the US although I believe that a good master will help me to apply to a better position in my country and abroad. My primary goal is to come back to my country after graduation. My strongest concern if I will be competitive to earn a tuition grant/scholarships in one of the top schools (HKS MPA-ID, WWS MPA, SIPA MPA-EPM, CIPA MPA) or if I need to think about others (suggestions?) and if my GRE scores are low (Q and AW)
  18. Program: MPA/MPP and similar programs Schools Applying To: Harvard-HKS (MPA/ID), Cornell-CIPA (MPA), Columbia-SIPA (MPA-EPM), Michigan-Ford (MPP), NYU-Wagner (MPA), others Interests: Mostly interested in economic development, economic/finance policy Undergrad Institution: Top National Public University (Argentina) Undergraduate GPA: 7,96/10 Undergraduate: Economics (it’s a 5yrs degree in Argentina) Graduate Institution: Top Private University (Argentina) Graduate GPA: 8,5/10 Graduate: Master in Public Policy GRE: V 163 / Q 161 / AW 3.5 Age: 27 Languages: Spanish (native), English TOEFL: 105 (R27, L28, S23, W27) Work Experience: +5yrs - 1 year as research economist at a top local economic consultancy - 4 years (ongoing) at the national public pension fund of Argentina. I have experience in the design/implementation of housing and social policies and in investment and financial analysis Scholarship: Fulbright Argentina Commission (leadership program) LORs: 2 current bosses (my direct boss since 4yrs ago and the Fund Chief) who have supervised my work in different areas and my graduate thesis director (and professor in my economics degree). SOPs: Not finalized, but will be talking about my motivations and hopes to promote economic development through economic and financial policies (investment promotion and financial inclusion in developing nations), highlighting experiences for my many years of working in the public sector of a developing country. Concerns: 1. GRE Quant (and AW) 2. I already have a MPP. It would be a problem? 3. LORs: I should ask for 2 academic letters and only 1 professional? 4. I need tuition grants, am I competitive? I should apply also to other school? Thank you!!
