  1. To be honest, that is a lot over the limit. They'll probably see it as you unable to follow directions. They put character limits for a reason.
  2. Also-- I personally know someone who had not so good GPA and GRE stats but highlighted that they were a native Arabic speaker and got accepted into a school that is nearby a large Arab population. So maybe also consider applying to schools that have a bilingual emphasis or are nearby populations that speak your other language.
  3. Extremely beneficial. Make sure you take advantage of discussing that in personal statements.
  4. I first made a big list of like 20+ schools with all their info from EdFind (location, average GRE, average GPA, acceptances divided by # who apply, other info) then narrowed down from there. I first put on my list schools that are nearby, then I explored more schools in states around me and added to the list those that I could realistically get into. The key is to be strategic about how you narrow down your list. With the final 3-4 I was trying to remove from my list I researched tuition and cut down the super expensive private schools
  5. Can anyone clarify for me how to go about doing the "academic update" for CSDCAS?
  6. Write it the same way it is reported on your transcript
  7. I say trust your instinct and judgement. At the end of the say it is YOUR statement.
  8. Why not just email or call each department and ask? That's how you'll get a for sure answer.
  9. For those reading this post in the future, I figured out my own question. To get verified you need - All your transcripts in, complete your transcript entry, and submit/pay for at least one app. Then you get in line for verification. Letters of rec do not need to be submitted to be verified.
  10. It took about 2 weeks for me to get verified after all my transcripts came in and I submitted & paid my for my first app
  11. Pretty sure that verification = your entire app. So if one is verified, they all are. All of mine suddenly changed to verified. It didn't go one by one.
  12. That's not what I meant. Look at this: https://portal.csdcas.org/csdcasHelpPages/participating-programs-2/index.html There a blue deadlines, orange deadlines, and green deadlines. Use that drop down bar to see what your school's deadline means.
  13. Everyone has a different experience. Magoosh raised my score significantly (10+ points).
  14. What color deadline does your school have? Most schools have orange deadlines so they online require completion not verification.
  15. Update: My app was verified this week, about 2 weeks after all my transcripts got in!
  16. I completely agree that single spacing looks more professional/formal.
  17. If they're allowing you to clarify then take the opportunity. They're gonna see that your score is low regardless.
  18. Does anyone else have some of their applications finished but are sitting on them because they're too scared to submit?! I have a bunch of stuff done but I'm scared to submit because I keep thinking "what if I think of a way to improve my statement?!" I just know though that i'll never be 100% content with it.
  19. Just keep yourself busy with activities that you couldn't do while busy with apps
  20. Unless the school specifies that they want double spacing, I am just single spacing everything. I feel like double spacing makes it look too long and from what I understand, conciseness is key. I had one school (OSU) specify they wanted in double spaced but all other schools don't specify spacing just word or page limits.
  21. I was wondering if anyone knows of SLP Masters programs that only use CSDCAS as part of their applications (no online school-specific applications or supplemental fees). This is because I have been considering adding a few schools to my list to increase my chances and if they are only on CSDCAS that would make my life super easy because my CSDCAS is pretty much filled out and I would not have too many extra fees. Thanks!
  22. MSU has a great program. They do not have an on campus clinic so they may be a deal breaker for you (it's a selling point for me). I visited and their staff seems soooo nice. However, I think it is the most competitive program in Michigan. They do not have a high acceptance according to EdFind and in comparison with other Michigan schools. I heard (not sure if this is true) that Central is more focused on pediatric SLP and school SLP. I've heard Western has an amazing program from an SLP who graduated from there. (Don't have many other details... but I think they're one of the highest ranked). Wayne State has a strong program however their clinic is in a really old/gross outdated building (in my opinion). Also, you need to be very careful in Detroit. If you move to go to WSU i recommend moving to a nearby suburb and commuting. However all the people in WSU's cohort that I've spoken to have only great things to say.
  23. I think you're projecting... it wasn't shade at all. I'm genuinely curious.
