  1. Hi, trying to connect with other people who might be attending USF this fall for SLP. Is there a facebook page or anything? And out of curiousity, why did you choose them?
  2. Thanks, that's good to know. At first I thought it was kind of strange, but knowing lots of programs do this, makes me feel more confident in their curriculum.
  3. I am deciding between USF, UNC Chapel Hill, MGH and NYMC. USF is by far the cheapest (by a landslide), but all of their classes are 3 hour evening classes, and I don't know how I feel about this. I don't think you learn as well this way. I'm interested in the medical aspect, but every source has said that which school you go to doesn't matter. The cost is important to me because I'm relying on loans and outside scholarships for living expenses, travel expenses, etc. I work but I only make like $11/hour right now. What do you think about having all evening classes? Do you know how common this is among other programs? The purpose is so that you are free during the day for clinicals. USF has over 200 clinical placement sites! Does anyone have any first hand experience about the other programs? If there are any great advantages?
  4. Thanks. Sounds like good advice. I just loathe night classes, haha!

  6. I got into both of those schools and chose USF. They are ranked the same (if that matters to you). USF is far less expensive, even out of state. Tampa is closer to the beach and UCF is in Orlando. If you like the city, UCF might be your best option. I also attended the open house for USF they have 2 cohorts of 25 students, I think it's bigger at UCF. USF has all of their classes as 3 hour evening classes. I don't know how I feel about this. They do it so that the students are free all day for clinicals. Good luck with your decision!
  7. I heard it's geared towards working with an older population.
  8. I went to their interview last year. They give you a tour of the campus, divide you into groups and interview you alone. There are 2 interviews with two different faculty and the last thing we did was there is a written portion. It seemed like it took a long time. There are 2 prompts. Each one is a situation with a person who has a communication disorder. You have to say how you would treat them basically. Also, during the interview they asked me what qualities I would look for if I were hiring an SLP for a tide 1 school. Their interview, they kind of expect you to have a lot of SLP knowledge. If you were CSD undergrad you will probably do fine. Oh, and you eat lunch on campus!
  9. Thanks for the advice. I have an evening job I plan to keep part-time, but some of the programs warn not to work at all. I feel like no matter what, I will have to take out substantial gradPlus loans though. I don't see any other way :-/
  10. So I'm going to be optimist and hope I am accepted into a graduate school this year, but I'm just wondering about how to pay for it? Anyone been there, done that? Or know someone who is. My credit is mediocre and I don't have much saved up. Also I don't have a cosigner. I work full time now, but I know you can't work at all during these programs. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!
