  1. If this is what you really want to do I would recommend trying! If you think your GPA is what's holding you back then you should definitely retake some classes. I took online classes at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, and I really enjoyed their CSD classes. I also volunteered in the field but if you're working as a SLP in a school that should be good in regards to experience. Best of luck!
  2. I didn't think the workload was overwhelming or anything.
  3. They vary so it's hard to say. But they're online classes so it consists of reading, watching online lectures, doing discussion posts, and projects.
  4. Since you're not applying until Fall I also recommend retaking your GRE.
  5. I took those online at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. It's worth looking into them there because I think they're cheaper than other programs mentioned!
  6. I think it's doable depending on what they are- last summer I took physics, audiology, and clinical procedures and it wasn't bad. They were all online but I did have to do 10 observation hours in person. Also, I didn't work during this time.
  7. I heard from Saint Rose at the end of Feb. If you haven't heard back by now you're likely on the waitlist! Good luck.
  8. Are you a CA resident? If so CSUF will be significantly cheaper than Chapman (which is a private university).
  9. This is the same with NYU Steinhardt- you have to log in at specific class times for a video/skype class.
  10. This is true, but one thing I'd like to highlight in the link that rowboat provided All graduate course work and graduate clinical experience required in speech-language pathology must have been initiated and completed in a speech-language pathology program accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) So the hours earned will not matter if you do not receive your degree from a school that is either accredited, or in the process of being accredited by ASHA.
  11. Also, if you'd like to share the school's name I'm happy to find their info for you and provide you the link if you're having trouble finding it!
  12. You can look on ASHA's website and find the school. If they are there they should have information on their status (accredited, pending, candidate)- if you graduate from any of those graduate programs you are fine and will earn your C's after passing praxis (and filing the appropriate paperwork). If you can't find any school info on the ASHA website that likely means they are not accredited (or trying to be) and you will not earn your C's. Try googling "School name + ASHA" and it should direct you to the school's page on the ASHA website. Or you can google "SLP ASHA schools" and it should give you a list of all the accredited schools (broken down by state).
  13. I'd also like to add that you don't have to pay off the loans until you complete the program and by that time you will be working.
  14. Thank you, best of luck to you as well!
  15. You can take out personal student loans to cover your living expenses (in addition to FAFSA). If you don't get accepted to the school, then you don't have to take out the loans at all. Or are you referring to other loans that you have?
  16. That's awesome, congratulations! It's such a relief when a decision is finally made (on both sides) and the anxiety is over! I will be attending The College of Saint Rose
  17. The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY! I only applied to two NJ schools- William Paterson (rejected) and Seton Hall. Seems like NJ schools are crazy competitive!
  18. It's okay, I likely will not attend either way since I already paid a deposit in another program, but I'm still curious.
  19. One good thing about attending a school in a rural area is I'm sure you'll become very close with your cohort!
  20. Oh good to know! My last name starts with A so that probably means I'm waitlisted or rejected.
  21. I had no experience/background in CSD courses (or knowledge of language development) and I found that the classes are designed to teach you the information as you progress through the hierarchy of CSD classes. I started out with anatomy and physiology of speech mechanism and also normal language development- those two were foundation courses that prepare you for the more detailed courses. The first year that I took classes I also worked full time but it got to be too much so I ended up leaving my job to focus on school and volunteering within the field. It's definitely doable though depending on how many classes you plan on taking each semester.
  22. Does anyone know when Seton Hall will be sending out notifications?
  23. I'm a career changer as well and just recently accepted into grad school! I don't think it's necessary to study before the pre-req classes, most post-bacc programs will start out with the fundamental courses and then you will advance to more in depth classes, so they will adequately prepare you. If anything I would focus outside studying on the GRE since that's personally one of the more challenging parts of an application (at least in my opinion). Do you know where you're planning on taking the classes? I did the online program with University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and really loved it. I know there are a few out there but that one worked best for me (since it was online) and seemed to be more affordable than some of the other ones. Good luck!
  24. I don't have specifics on this, but I've spoken to three separate people who have attended and all reported a positive experience, so to me, that equates to the program having a good reputation. Also, I do know that they allow you to do your clinical placements near your home which could be beneficial to some students who are from a different area. However, I don't have any information on their clinical experiences so that could just be allowed during the last semester.
