  1. .......Can we? Come together and bask in our anxieties and worries? Am I the only one here? ??????

Today I woke up wanting to e-mail the PI (at my top program) and telling them that they’re my #1 choice, lmao.

It’s only been a week post-interview for this program, but I love it SO freaking much..... and the PI immediately responded to my post-interview email with such great/warm feedback........... Ugh.

What are all of you thinking about and ruminating over? I would cancel my upcoming interviews immediately if I received an offer from this PI, tbh ??

    Seriously, wtf is going on?!

But also the part when they referred to everyone calling them out as "second choice losers"... I died lmao. Definitely a troll.

    LMAO

My conspiracy theory is that whoever really did get accepted into TM's lab has an anonymous hater who is trying to ruin their life by pretending to be them lol

The only plot twist, you may be onto something here ?

I guess my situation feels a little unique - I'm geographically limited in where I can realistically go, and my interests are fairly niche (forensics, violence).  This was my first attempt - I applied to 6 programs, interviewed at 3 (and of these, was rejected at 1, waitlisted here at my top choice, and am waiting to hear from the last program, which while it seems great is a bit of a gamble since it is new and not yet APA accredited which is a big risk to take).

What about expanding your school search to other areas? Or do you feel that for the next app round, you'll still be geographically limited?

I think you did excellent this time around with only 6 schools (And in the same area!), so focus on what you did right, which led you to 50% of programs wanting to interview you. Definitely reach out to the faculty (Sometime in April, not now), and ask for feedback- At least for the programs that rejected/waitlisted. I did, and it helped me immensely.

This process is brutal, unfair, often times ridiculous, and many factors are at play which we can't control as applicants. If this is truly the career path you envision for the rest of your life, try again, and do not give up.❤️

  4. Did you interview with any other programs? Or was this your only interview? Also, is this your first round of applications?

It sucks but time heals everything, trust me. Like @Marginally Significant mentioned above, you use the hurt/energy to make yourself 23892389x more competitive for the next round. This similar situation happened to me last time I applied. The program I was in "love with" that waitlisted me/ultimately rejected me last time invited me to interview again this time around (and they are clearly impressed with my application/materials/growth in my accomplishments), but: This time around, they're no longer my #1 lol. I would say they're not even my top 4... Which is insane to think about, how your interests change over time.

If you do not get accepted this time around, you will definitely learn from your mistakes and use it to your advantage for the next time you decide to apply.

Is it at all common for people to be accepted after not receiving an interview? I’ve heard literally nothing from six of the programs I applied to, but none have formally accepted anyone despite 5/6 interview weekends already occurring and most having had at least one wave of rejections. I’m currently assuming no’s at all of them but wondering if that’s too preemptive. If I receive an offer at a school I interviewed with, should I wait for any formal rejections or follow my assumptions and just accept immediately?

For reputable, clinical psychology Ph.D./Psy.D. programs, you must complete an interview before being offered acceptance to a program.

Schools generally wait until all acceptances are finalized (from those invited to interview) before sending rejections to all applicants.

Regarding the Yale post...if you have 3+ offers it is important to narrow those down! It is etiquette to not hold on to more than two offers at once.

Was just about to say that! :) It's good etiquette to NOT hold multiple offers. Because realistically, you are deciding between TWO choices/schools, not between 3+. It's a stressful time for everyone so please let go of one of your offers so your spot can be given to someone else who is just as anxious. Thank you!

Came off kinda troll-ish but maybe that’s just me and I’m sensitive af right now ??

I just got waitlisted at John Jay (my top choice - posted on the results board as well) and it took a LOT of self-control to hold it together and not ugly cry in the bathroom at work lmao.  Two questions:

    1. How common is it to get an offer off the waitlist?

    2. Is it worth re-applying to a program you've already interviewed at?  My stomach is already in knots thinking about the prospect of applying another cycle but this program is so exceptional, I think it'd be worth it if I had a shot.

    1. Quite common actually. Unless it's a very competitive program, people usually will accept the school as their top choice. I heard JJ is a very competitive school, so odds are very slim unfortunately ?
    2. Yes, it's worth it. Although it's a little awkward (from personal experience)- This happened to me this app. round with 1 school. For the rest of the programs, I actually applied to most that rejected me in the past, and all those programs invited me to interview this time around lol (n=5 specifically where it wasn't my first time applying). I felt so confident though interviewing this time around because of my strong experiences/background, it was pretty awesome, and the PIs were truly impressed with my background.

how do interviews with grad students typically go? are they generally relaxed?

I felt like the grad students had more questions than faculty. But nothing that would be impossible to answer (What do you do for self-care, how do you deal with criticism, etc.)

Mine went the complete opposite, they didn't ask me anything lol. They expected for me to ask them lots of questions, which I did ;)

FIRST ACCEPTANCE, I'M SO RELIEVED! This was my top choice of programs so I will absolutely be accepting this offer :) PM if you'd like more details or if you are also planning on attending, I'd love to connect.

I can't like this...... SO I WANT TO TELL YOU I LOVE THIS. LOL!!!!!!!! CONGRATS!!!

This may not be a popular sentiment (but pls no judge in this judge-free zone), but I'm realizing I'm taking getting waitlisted much more personally than just a straight-up rejection/ghosting. Like of course I want programs to be transparent with me, and I know it's usually just about fit, but I can't help but feel crappy about myself when I've gone to interview in person, felt like things went well, and then still get waitlisted. Things will work out the way they're supposed to, but I just wanted to rage and vent that getting waitlisted oddly feels WAY more like a failure to me than rejections. blah.

I think this is (highkey) a common sentiment, honestly.

I haven’t been “waitlisted post-interview” yet, but if I was (let’s say #5? on a list), I would feel like absolute $h!t knowing my PI DID NOT consider me his/her #1, and it was only until his #s 1-4 options rejected the offer that the PI decided to “make me an offer.”

I guess my comment doesn’t make the situation better, wahhh, but I’m just preparing for worst-case scenario.... and these are the stupid thoughts that I run through my head. Again, everything sucks, I want this process to end already ?

Faculty too! They have to make such difficult decisions arghhhhh so much to lose

#waitist LOL I don’t even know wtf I’m typing anymore.

I kind of feel a certain way about faculty ?.... in my last interview, my PI was interviewing 7+ applicants for 1 position.

The (broken) system in place doesn’t favor the applicants whatsoever, it favors the institutions/departments, which is awful. I’ve said this before, but the field needs to move more towards a system that mirrors the internship application process!!!!!!!

I was just waitlisted at my top choice school after interviews. Going to think positive but can't help feeling like I'm in waiting purgatory again like when I was waiting for interview invites..

Was this for George Mason? Don’t lose hope, people have gotten accepted from the waitlist post-interview so many times. You need to just pray people make their decisions in a timely manner!

I’ve seen people rejected and waitlisted from GMU so far, but some of us who interviewed haven’t heard anything since interviews! ?

Do we assume acceptance? Why haven’t they updated or emailed us? It’s confusing! Clearly they’ve got the process a little bit all over the place this year.

I got an acceptance today and cried. I'm going to grad school, y'all ?

Sharing this process with all of you has definitely helped make this crazy application process a lot more bearable. Wishing acceptances on everyone!

I am SO freaking happy for you. I know how nervous you were about this whole damn thing and the thought of having to apply again.

Please PM me where you’ll be going, I can’t wait to connect with you and keep in touch through out our journeys

    CONGRATULATIONS ????❤️❤️?❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
