fixology got a reaction from ea7409 in Fall 2020 Clinical/Counseling Interview Invites
Anytime! Their process and portal seemed especially confusing. At least it's over with. Good luck and I hope you hear good things from them soon!!

The GPA Summary got me, too! That was a pretty quick fix, though, given I'd already compiled that information for the supplemental form. I also thought it strange that there hadn't been any clear info provided about it on the website.
Good point re: them reviewing apps regardless of subject scores. I hadn't thought of that...tis the season of overthinking everything application-oriented ?. Thank you!

I use this exclusively when I see a post on the results page that is NOT on this thread, and it has generally worked out for me. Sorry to crowd the board.

Interview invites tend to go out one of two ways:
1) The program coordinator or DCT sends a mass email OR
2) Individual PIs invite their students
If #2 happens, of course the PI will say something along the lines of "I was impressed with your application, and hence I want you to come interview in person." The mass blast emails say similar, but far more generic things.
I would not be considered at getting one or the other. Some schools do one giant blast email, others do only PI emails, and some do a mix of both. Don't read into anything, but just celebrate on getting an interview! Congrats!

I've wondered this too! My best guess would be to keep doing "Dr. Lastname" until the interview, and if they tell you in person to go by their first name there, then start using their first name. I think it's worse to come off as presumptuous than a bit formal.

Hi all,
When a PI signs off their email with their first name rather than Dr. Lastname, does that mean you should address them by their first name? I’m inclined to go with Dr. Lastname, but I also don’t want to be too “formal” if they prefer going by their first name.

I hope so. That would make the most sense.

I usually read 2-3 papers, 3-5 abstracts, like 10 article titles, and prepare answers to questions I anticipate being asked.

I'm no expert, but it doesn't seem like it makes a difference. I applied on the deadline or the day before the deadline for all of my schools and I've already heard back from a few. Every program sends out invites at different times, though, and this is still very early in the admissions process, so don't lose hope if you haven't heard back yet.
Also, to folks who are frustrated when people don't put their PI in their post: consider DMing the poster; some people aren't comfortable posting potentially identifiable information on a public forum, but they're fine with a DM.

Hi all,
Making this general thread to talk about some of the challenges of finding a POI/Adviser, looking for programs where we "fit", and the general stress of feeling like we've got so much to prove. I hope to go into clinical psychology to study resilience in racial minorities and immigrants as well as the use my degree as a platform for social justice advocacy and systems change. Finding an adviser in this space has been hard enough and I have been encouraged to pursue something "easier" many times. But the heart wants what it wants!
I hope we can make a safe space for all minority applicants out there as our stress is a little more than the majority applicant.

Oh same, it's really killing me. And you know we'll probably get these emails during the holidays when we least expect them, haha.
It's even worse because my long-term partner is applying to PhDs in a different field (mathematics) right now–it's his 3rd app cycle and my 2nd, and we've gone through all of them while together. We've dealt with it well, but it's awful to deal with this amount of uncertainty every year over and over. It'll be nice to actually know where we'll be for the next few years. And I'm so excited to move forward it's hard to keep waiting!
I've been able to channel all of my post-app free time and energy into holiday decorating, which has been really therapeutic actually ?

Every time I see an email in my inbox I get so excited thinking it might be an application update..it's going to be a long couple of months, my dudes. Working as an RA has been enriching, worthwhile, and a great growth process, but I am SO READY to get back to school. Good luck everyone!!

So glad you made this, lol, because I didn't want to spam any other threads.
I'm also pulling my hair out. Just yesterday I was all "I guess NONE of the schools are interested in me. Time to leave the continent and apply for European programs! Good bye mom and dad!"
This past week, I've been saying "No checking gradcafe...", but I've been doing it at least 3 times a day. I was browsing the invite thread last year (i didn't apply), and I said I wasn't going to be one of those neurotic posters. Haha.
I even have one of those website blockers extensions installed... but I keep disabling and enabling it.
Plus, I just found out a few days ago that 3/15 of my applications are incomplete because of some very nuance technicality in the application (international applicant), so that's 3 unofficial rejections.
I want to start reserving my check-ins to December 25th, January 15th, and January 30th because it seems those are good dates where enough entires have trickled in that it's actually worth checking in.
IM SO WEAK ???

Hey everyone, last round an applicant started a general thread to talk about stress levels, what we were doing to stay sane, how email notifications were the bane of our existence, etc.
Thought it might be nice to start it up again as I know I am having a hard time staying focused and patient during the waiting period! Even though I haven't seen any results or interview invites for the programs I've applied to, and I logically know I won't hear for a few weeks based on previous cycle data, it hasn't stopped me from freaking out every day and wasting a ton of time refreshing grad cafe and SDN just to see if anyone has heard from my programs ?
How are you doing? Anything positive to look forward to this holiday season?

I'm depressed. Ok, not really, but I'm just emotionally tumultuous. There isn't a "good" reason for it, it is just the stress of finishing my dissertation and finding a job and teaching two different classes. It's made me an emotional mess. Six months and this process will be over. I remember getting my acceptance and then having to wait 6 months to start, and that being a painful time. Well, this might be worse. I've been here for almost 5 years. It seems so long. At this point most of my adult life has been as a graduate student. I'm ready to have a career job, haha.
