Yes, I agree. I was referring to programs applied and accepted, rejected, etc..

I think a lot of universities have finished with admissions, but a lot haven't even started. For example, in this thread you will have seen that some programs are releasing results until February and that big schools like MIT and Stanford haven't released any admissions results yet either.

I applied for most of these several weeks late as I had to deal with an unexpected visa issue and had to prioritize it over applications due to severity.

They allowed me to submit the applications but not sure about the impact of the delay.

Great! I have a pchem focus and have heard back from Caltech and Columbia. Caltech is done with admissions as far as I know. They had a long interview process. Columbia may be done as well. They mentioned they were admitted a smaller class due to COVID. 

 

I haven't heard back from MIT or Stanford. Some Stanford admissions went out yesterday, but that is all I have heard.

Hi there! I applied to all of the same programs (organic) besides Rice. From following the results page, I think Caltech has finished their admissions process. I already heard back from Yale, Columbia, and UW-Madison. In the results section, a current Yale student said that the department will be sending a few more acceptances. I also saw on reddit that Columbia might be sending out a few more acceptances. I have no information on where UW-Madison is in their admissions process. I think Stanford has started to send some informal acceptances (based on the results page). No word from MIT.

unfortunately no ? pretty bummed bc that was my top choice by far, but it's all good! feeling positive about the choices I have so far!!

I also applied to UW-Madison, Caltech, and MIT, as well as Berkeley, UIUC, Pittsburgh, and UChicago. I've heard back from Madison, Berkeley, UIUC, and Pittsburgh, and it seems like Madison is mostly done since they have fully scheduled both their visit weekends. Berkeley gave a deadline of Feb 5 to register for their visit weekends so most acceptances should be sent out before then. Not sure where UIUC is, but for Pittsburgh I think it's still early for them.

 I haven't heard a word from Caltech, MIT, or UChicago. I do figure that means I was rejected from Caltech (Pchem).

I dont neccessarily think Caltech is done with admissions, dont feel too down or read into results pages too much!  I saw one person post for organic, and I havent seen anyone else post anything (Im suspecting a Troll). But Timothychem I think thats a great attutude, thats what Ive been thinking too!

If you filter the results page by putting in Chemistry Caltech in the search bar, you will see that there are like 6-7 posts about Caltech. I know inorganic, pchem, organic, and theory people who all got interviews and were admitted/rejected. If you also read this threat you will see people talking about the interviews and the number of people in zoom calls. I know like 18 chem bio and 18 inorganic were admitted that way. I also know that roughly 15 people have been admitted to pchem. I don't know about organic, but I wouldn't hold out too much for Caltech.

i've found that if i search california institute of technology and caltech i get different results, under california institute of technology chemistry, i can see two posts about organic chemistry phd

Got rejected by Harvard. I'm so disappointed. The fact that this rejection came so soon makes it even worse. Damn it, if I had taken the subject GRE and gotten 99 percentile I would've probably had a better chance.  Or maybe, it was just a matter of research fit, but still...

 

Has anyone else received any updates from Harvard?

It looks like a slaughter day for Harvard. So many posts in the results section. I know that this probably doesn't help with the dissapointment. I am not so sure Harvard has the best environment for chem. I did some research and it looks like mental health and students being over worked is a really, really big problem there. You may have dogded a bullet.

So, theory people did get interviews at Caltech? That's kind of sad for me to hear. I did get into Berkeley and Northwestern, so I'm a bit surprised I didn't get an interview. I guess I could very well have gotten rejected from Caltech.

I also got into Berkeley and didn't get an interview from Caltech. Guess they're looking for different things ?‍♀️I applied pchem and didn't submit GRE scores to either of them fwiw

I didn't submit GRE scores to either. I wonder if there's still a chance for us at Caltech. It's my top choice, but I am very grateful to get into Berkeley as well. Maybe I'll see you at Berkeley this fall

Berkeley is awesome! I did my undergrad there. The profs are fantastic and the research is unlike anywhere else. We are very proud of our 14 element discoveries!

Thank you, that does make me feel slightly better.

I've heard about the toxic environment and suicides, but I thought it only pertained to organic chemistry.

I’ll be honest- I’ve heard about the toxic environment from a lot of the top 5 schools which is a big reason I choose not to apply there. Northwestern was my dream school for years, and my undergrad PI told me she couldn’t send me there with a clear conscious because of the suicides. 
 

Don’t get me wrong- rejection sucks and getting into these schools is a HUGE accomplishment. But in some ways it may be better for your mental health
