Josh J. Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Called Duke back this morning and I was accepted! Congrats!
CrisDonlon Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Job interview and waiting to hear from Yale....this day haha.
indefiniteintegral Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 50% ($13,500) for YDS via email at 11:30am.
JillUMASS Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 50% ($13,500) for YDS via email at 11:30am. Is that a decent offer compared to your other offers?
JMyers Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 For those that were offered funding for Yale, was it in your acceptance letter that you can read by logging in online, or did it come in an email under separate cover? Thanks.
Elk Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Mine was in the body of an email (with the header "Yald Divinity School Office of Financial Aid" haha). There's no info about funding on my application page.

Thomist Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 50% ($13,500) for YDS via email at 11:30am. Same here, although the percentage is a bit higher if you already have health insurance. taycross and Jcosta 2

Jcosta Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Oh boy!! First of all, congrats to everyone who's gotten good news over the past few weeks! I've just been offered a full ride to Yale (MDiv) by e-mail. This makes things interesting, as I've had the same offer from Vandy and PTS. Duke has yet to send me funding info, but I seriously doubt I'll be offered a full ride. I've turned down the offer from Vanderbilt, so that leaves YDS vs. PTS. What do you guys think? My ultimate goal is teaching historical theology at university or seminary. I know both places are strong in postliberal theology, and I love it. I'm very interested in studying Barth, and I know PTS is definitely the place for that, with both McCormack and Hunsinger on staff. On the other hand, Yale has Miroslav Volf, and Kathryn Tanner... For someone who wants to go on to doctoral work, which of the two is preferable? How much does it matter that PTS is not part of Princeton University, while Yale is Yale? Also, anyone have any info on raising a family in Princeton vs. New Haven (I have one toddler and another one on the way)? All opinions are appreciated! Again, congrats to all and to those who didn't get their first choices, don't give up! I flunked my way through high school, dropped out of my senior year and only got serious about my studies 4 years later, when I decided to take the GED and start from scratch at a community college. If I made it (and I'm not particularly bright) so will you. Best to all!

If I made it (and I'm not particularly bright) so will you. Best to all! I did the same thing with my studies that you did! Nice to meet another person with my same schooling experiences. I don't know much about Princeton, but New Haven is nice. Yale is located in a city setting and the campus is breath taking, reminds me of Hogwarts lol. You could probably find some decent priced living in the towns just outside the city. I don't know much about either particular program because I didn't apply to them myself, but being in CT has major advantages. You'd be really close to get to Boston and NYC for all the academic resources that are available in those places so it would be really easy to make great connections with people. Just my thoughts on the matter. Congrats on all your excellent offers! Jcosta 1

CrisDonlon Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Well, rejected from Yale MARc in Bible. It's alright though. Looks like I will (most likely) be heading back home to Atlanta to Candler School of Theology, unless Duke somehow offers me something better, which doesn't look likely. Good luck to everyone who made it!

If I made it (and I'm not particularly bright) so will you. Best to all! I can speak as a Princeton undergrad about some of the logistics of our relationship with PTS, if not how it affects doctoral work. The town is safe and quiet, but spendy and impractical. One of the main reasons I didn't apply to PTS is that I want more life in the place I attend grad school. Many PhDs at the university complain about feeling trapped on campus without so much as a basic grocery story within safe walking/biking distance. (Princeton, NJ: home of 6 different ice cream shops, but no place to buy eggs and flour.) In short, it's not a place to be young and single - but I know some people at the seminary do fine with young families here. Princeton and PTS have a pretty distant relationship, but access to a lot of each other's resources: libraries, class listings, etc. They're just so underused (at least on our end of things) as to be almost secret. I'm in the religion department and know more seminarians than most, and I couldn't give you all the details. coffeekid 1
TTG49 Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Well, got 50% funding, which looks to be the average. Considering my goals, fit, and costs of living, I'll be turning down Union's full tuition offer, which kind of hurts, and it will come down to YDS or ND--if I get in. Congrats to all!
kacei Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 (edited) Just received word about funding from YDS. I got about 75% tuition, which is unfortunate since I'm in over 60k debt from undergrad. I guess my application at VTS is still in the running. Anyone know anything about how much work study offers? Edited March 15, 2013 by kacei
