MBIGrad Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Just send the Graduate Administrator a couple of "Benjamins" in the mail, and it will all sort itself out.
Kleets712 Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 After this application cycle, I'm all out!
Therewillbeluke Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 The PTS background check is more to do with the PC(USA) than with the school itself so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Kleets712 Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Thanks, TherewillbeLuke, I just wanted to make sure it gets recorded before people go on break, so that it'll be ready to be reviewed in January. I called today, but no one picked up. An clue why that was?
Kleets712 Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) Also, such a weird email from BU: "Greetings from the Boston University School of Theology! Thank you for applying to the School's doctoral program. We have received your application, and want to invite you to submit a video as a first step in the interview process for admission to the program." A video? Come on. How long is the video supposed to be and what are you supposed to include?
Kleets712 Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 That's pretty interesting. How long is the video supposed to be and what are you supposed to include? 3-4 minutes - Not sure about the function.
Therewillbeluke Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Thanks, TherewillbeLuke, I just wanted to make sure it gets recorded before people go on break, so that it'll be ready to be reviewed in January. I called today, but no one picked up. An clue why that was? Yeah, today was the last day of the semester so the offices closed round lunchtime.
Kleets712 Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Yeah, this was yesterday, but I checked and my file showed as complete. So, I guess that means I'm in the clear hopefully.
Kuriakos Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 If applications don't work out, here is a 40k a year job many of you would be qualified for: https://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/wrg/4244720190.html Therewillbeluke, axiomness, marXian and 1 other 4
MBIGrad Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 I would make it a music video in the vein of "What Does the Fox Say?"

phdapp Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 So, PTS requires a background check and that took a couple extra days to come in for me. Does anyone know how badly this will affect my application there? Is there a general expectation of some trickle in, or is this bad news bears? I submitted everything supplemental well in advance. Interestingly, I know of a case where someone had a felony conviction and the cheap background check service they use at PTS had no idea... waste of everyone's time and money.
MBIGrad Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 I've heard from a reliable source that many of PTS's faculty double as CIA undercover ops....weird. Therewillbeluke 1
theogeek Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Canadians don't have to do a background check for PTS. Woo!
sacklunch Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 Everyone knows Canadians are too nice for that. sacklunch and theogeek 2
axiomness Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Yeah, I think In Canada they pay YOU to give THEM a background check theogeek and sacklunch 2
d_kahr Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Hard to believe my first three apps are due in a week and a half. Anyone else applying to Vanderbilt, Baylor, or Princeton Seminary? I have applied to Baylor (Theology).
MBIGrad Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Did any other Ancient Mediterranean Religions/Ancient Christianity/Biblical Studies folk apply to Cornell, UVA, or Boston U?
diazalon Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Did any other Ancient Mediterranean Religions/Ancient Christianity/Biblical Studies folk apply to Cornell, UVA, or Boston U? Boston U, here. What interests you at Cornell? Looking into textual criticism?
sacklunch Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 (edited) Someone posted a UNC-CH acceptance (Religious Studies). Edited January 11, 2014 by furtivemode
diazalon Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Someone posted a UNC-CH acceptance (Religious Studies). Anyone want to fess up? Maybe give us an idea what your subfield is?
AbrasaxEos Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 UNC-CH notifies very early. I remember in my year, my phone rang in the first week of January, my wife picked it up and told me that Bart Ehrman was on the phone. marXian, Therewillbeluke and sacklunch 3
