802BernieBro Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 @ServeNStudy Same. I work in Alzheimer's currently and want to transition but don't know how without the requisite background. Sounds like we're in the exact same boat. Holding out hope for one more school but I'm in a bind
KayJay22 Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 To the Georgia Southern PsyD posters: Before receiving an email about an interview did you receive an email saying your application has moved to "pending" status and then an email about funding opportunities? If so how long after did you get the interview invite?

I've been told that the entire Rutgers clinical faculty is convening this week to discuss their shortlist, with PIs advocating for certain students to be invited to Interview Day on February 10th. I.e., they have not sent formal interview day invites out yet but should within the next week. Some (but perhaps not all) applicants on that shortlist have already had Skype or phone pre-interviews with their POIs. Hope this helps. shenova, ServeNStudy, holt_swanson and 1 other 4

I've seen a couple of people get interviews on the results page but they were all from POIs.
psych0627 Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 I know others have asked, but does anyone have information about Harvard's interview timeline? There is one post about someone's rejection from a POI on the board but otherwise silence. Any info would be helpful, thanks! stereopticons 1

BrianPsych Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Wouldn't it be wonderful if all the top clinical programs agreed on a single process, a transparent and consistent timeline, and a commitment to sending weekly notification updates as to the status of your application? One can dream..... elephantbird, PNIplz, Louvre and 4 others 7

From previous threads, Harvards process is not very coherent at all and there are no formal interview days so POI can contact and invite at their own discretion (someone correct me if i'm mistaken). Though based on past years it looks like if you don't hear back by the 1st/2nd week of February then its unlikely you will :/

I heard that the faculty were beginning to extend interviews as of yesterday, but it seems as though PIs are conducting preliminary phone interview and/or extending invites individually. Not sure about the interview date. shenova 1
MemphisMeli Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 I talked to one of the Clinical faculty today for the University of Memphis. He told me that invitations to interview have already been issued. That if I hadn't heard anything yet, that meant I was not going to be invited to interview, but since I have also not received a rejection to not give up hope. I could be second/third string. So... now it looks like I may be waiting until April to know anything.
Psych!! Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 I'm not sure if there's a separate thread for interview questions, but I will be interviewing with 2 potential POIs at the same school. Does anyone know if it is common in this situation for them to ask which one you would rather work with? That seems like it might put everyone in an awkward situation, but also seems like a valid question, so I'm curious... Thanks everyone!

ClincPsyc Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 I know UCLA said they send out interview invitations at least 2 weeks before the interview day. There's only 2 weeks and 1 day left before Feb 9 (their website says interview days are Feb 9-10). So I'm totally freaking out now. Has anyone got interview invitation from the department yet? To those who were offered interviews by their POIs, congrats! Could you please also PM me the initials of your POI if you don't mind? Thanks a lot!

I wouldn't expect that question explicitly, but I do think they're going to be very interested in determining the appropriate fit. It will more likely be phrased as, "Tell me about who you want to work with and why/how your research interests match with theirs? What kind of research do you see yourself doing here? What kind of research would you be interested in doing in your career after graduating?" Questions like that will help them narrow it down, I think, without just flat out making you choose. I just interviewed for a dual-mentorship position (so slightly different from your situation, but a bit relatable) and I was asked why I was interested in the research of each POI, how my research overlapped with theirs, and what I wanted to research there. Interviews tend to be very fit-focused, so if you do have a preference then I'd put more emphasis on that when describing your research experiences/goals. If you don't have a preference then I'd just describe your research very honestly and see where they go from there. That Research Lady 1

Current graduate students extended interview invitations last night - I'm not sure whether they're continuing to extend more, but they've definitely started. Official emails to follow graduate student phone calls.
