If this helps anyone's anxiety, I just heard that UT just sent out all their admission decisions!

Austin? Are you sure? I haven't gotten anything and my status is still "in review".

Yup, positive. It was in an email from the DGS this morning about getting involved during recruitment weekend, but it may take awhile for them to actually get every single decision out, since I think they do individual emails?

ah, welp, probably not a good sign I haven't heard anything. If anyone else still has an "in review" status from Austin please send up a flare.

I already got a rejection email from the department last week, but I just got a "check the portal" email this morning, so probably some sort of website thing happened just now?

This email also solidly misgendered me so I'm feeling a lot less bad about not going there now, tbh.

Berkeley has started sending out English PhD acceptances.

How do you know this? I haven't heard back from them or seen anything in the results section of the grad cafe.

I don't know about that person, but it looks like there is now one acceptance on the results page with no additional information. Personally, the portal still lists my application status as "submitted," though.

Oh I just saw it. I also saw the McGill acceptance. Freaking out because I haven't heard from either of them yet but trying to remind myself that it's early in the day (especially in California).

Holy cow. and it's a phone call; not via E-mail or something.

yes yes it is always early in the day somewhere, just like it's always happy hour.

it's 5:30 PM here - anybody care to join?

Happy hour would be really great right about now.

I wouldn't write Berkeley off yet - it's a large program, which means it's likely multiple GCers will receive offers/waitlists, and because of its quality they'll be highly likely to post those results immediately. Only one posted response a day late doesn't seem quite right - might have been a particular POI email. I think the main wave is still to come.

Dear Empyreal,

In recognition of your exceptional achievement and promise, I am pleased to offer you admission to the Ph.D. program in English at the University of California, Berkeley.

The intellectual community at Berkeley is unique, imbued with a spirit of rigorous, innovative, and collaborative inquiry.  The resources of the campus and of the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area make this an extraordinary place to live and work, and my colleagues and I are confident that you would find our English Department a welcoming and supportive home for your future studies.  You will need to inform us of your decision about our offer no later than the 15th of April, but please let us know if you decide before then.

In the interim, I also want to invite and encourage you to come to Berkeley for the upcoming visit days, [...].  On Saturday and Sunday, the English Graduate Association has planned a brunch with other prospective students, a graduate colloquium, Berkeley and campus tours, an excursion to San Francisco, and a dinner reception with departmental students and faculty.  On Monday, the department will hold several events, including a lunch and a faculty colloquium.  We also hope to arrange meetings with faculty in your field(s) and invite you to sit in on classes of particular interest while you are here.  One of our current graduate students will contact you shortly to arrange for housing, should you need it, and to provide more details about the weekend events.  We will be able to reimburse you for the cost of your airline ticket up to $300 if you are traveling from outside California ($500 if you are traveling internationally) and up to $100 if you are traveling from within the state.  We ask that you RSVP by 3 March, so please contact Sam Rifkin, the Graduate Student Affairs Officer, by that date to let us know whether or not you intend to join us; his email address is [...]
, and his phone number is […].

I hope you will feel free to contact me […] or Professor [...], our [...], with any questions you may have.  We would be delighted if you chose to join us here at Berkeley.  And once again, congratulations.

Sincerely,
[…]

I posted the Berkeley acceptance. Sorry about the lack of information—I didn’t know what to add. Still a bit shocked by the news!

Congrats to you both! You'll receive more communications from the department, of course, but please (and this goes for others potentially lurking as well) do feel free to PM me with any questions about the program, the university, living in the East Bay, etc!

What if we snuck in and joined the "prospective applicants brunch"?

Really praying that berkeley's sending out some more acceptances. Its my top choice program, I haven't heard a lick from them and my online portal has remained unchanged.
