slp2be2019 Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 I decided to go to Kent State University. I am so excited to start this next chapter of my life! I was extremely attracted to the friendly faculty, tight knit cohort, open door policy, and study abroad opportunity. PM me if you're also going to Kent State! Would love to meet some others that will be my classmates these next two years! slcSLP 1

I only applied to 3 schools and apparently Eastern New Mexico lost my application?! Not interested in following through with the grad dept to find out what happened. I see it as a sign that I should go to WT! Anyone else going? I'd love to connect! I'm going to West Texas A&M as well!! Have you visited or are you going on a whim like me? haha Edited April 10, 2017 by Hales Chai Tea Latte 1
Callen Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 I just officially accepted my offer to UW-Milwaukee's program Reasons? First, it is the only place I've fully been accepted to. I'm on some waitlists, but yeah. Second, I just visited and their program seems really nice! They have a professor there who is interested in Voice Disorders and has been researching Transgender Voices, which I would love to be a part of. I also found that they have some electives in Adult Neurogenic Disorders (!!!), which is one of the things I'm most interested in! I really would like to work with TBIs, etc., so that's right up my alley Cons to the school: price! I'll be in debt forever. lol. (I laugh, but it's really not that funny) kayyyyy_, SLPsingballs and plume 3

mcook64 Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 I just sent in my deposit to Worcester State University! I primarily chose this program because of the cost. It is so affordable! I just recently went to the accepted students open house and I was very impressed with the faculty and the clinic. It's a small program, and it seems like everyone is very close! I think I will be very happy there
SLPsingballs Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 It looks like I'm going to CSUN, where I'm completing my undergrad! I guess I am a matador for life, hahahaaaa! Although I was accepted (and waitlisted) at other schools that seemed like fantastic programs, the reality comes down to finances. I just don't have the funds for out of state without breaking the bank, and I have my family to consider. If it were only me and I was 22 or 23, I would have gone across the country to the school that had research in the field of study I am most interested in. However, priorities change, and I am looking forward to NOT have to move over the summer. kayyyyy_, twinguy7 and Maridele 3

jmk Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 I chose San Francisco State! My alma mater, so already know program/clinics/professors A few friends attending program Parents an hour away Can live at home / commute the first few weeks while finding housing Job already here Friends/family already here Great dating potential with tech boom Volunteered in spots where I could potentially do internships/CF Most affordable by far Awesome city that I haven't tired of yet Great clinical rotations and opportunities A school where people will at least know the name/where it is Diverse and liberal program emphasis, program, and city Higher starting salaries and lots of job opportunities Cons: my alma mater, so less room for growth potentially. I wanted an adventure. Not as well-ranked as other programs. High cost of living. 15 of the people are from my undergrad class, so less new folks to befriend. Maridele 1
Soon2beSLP Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 I just got accepted into mercy. I'm waiting to hear from my other waitlist a but will most likely be attending
ansleydavis Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 I decided to attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The program is small and really close knit. They really focus on a family environment. The program places a emphasis on research in that every student is required to do a research project. Less intense than a thesis(which they do have that option) but you still get a chance to dip your toes in :).They have a big emphasis on educating culturally adept clinicians which is extremely important in this day and age. I also like the military presence which means that internships can be in a variety of places(TBI, aphasia, pediatric, etc.). Another factor that helps is the tuition will be in-state for me. The department had some trouble with accreditation about 10+ years ago, but every therapist I've talked to who has graduated in recent years who attended absolutely loved it. They're accredited until 2022 now so I'm not worried at all. I feel like they've done a lot to improve the school, like the fact that they just helped set up the first speech therapy program in China. I also like the fact that in my downtime I'm in paradise :). I'm just excited to make the most of the program! mbf 1
