For those who applied for MS Biostats program there, the decisions should be out next week. What was the call about exactly? Was it like an interview?

I saw that someone has received an offer on statistics program after interview this week. I don't know whether there will be an interview for biostatistics since a video essay was asked to be submitted early before the application deadline. I applied for SMU. I have been interviewed and given an unofficial offer. They are waiting for my response and I probably will reject. Then I guess they will go the process of interviewing other people.

I don't believe they do interviews for MS Biostats. The call was quite personal. They said they were very positive with my profile. They asked about my GRE score. They also asked me to send them a reference from University of Michigan as I did an exchange semester there last Fall (2017). Cal1gula 1

I'm in a similar case, my verbal is even worse I got 144. I am still waiting and hope for the best. Hopefully we'll be fine!
aaaapvawgw Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 (edited) Has anyone heard from joint ML Statistics at Carnegie Mellon? Since I haven't heard I am assuming I did not get in, but I am wondering if there is any chance that the joint ML program results come out later than the general statistics results Edited February 4, 2018 by aaaapvawgw

I received an email in October that said: "We have decided to remove that joint program option from the on-line application. Instead, students interested in the joint Ph.D. degree in Statistics and Machine Learning should apply to the PH.D. program that best aligns with their research interests (PH.D. in Statistics or Ph.D. in Machine Learning)." Does this mean people who expressed interest in ML in their SOP's are automatically considered or or that the process/application for joining begins once you are already admitted/attending one of the stats or ML phd? I'll also ask them via email.

bayessays Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 They're not really interviews, they're probably more like acceptance phonecalls with a conversation.

StuartLittle Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 I have a feeling that Michigan's PhD Statistics decisions will also be out this week. Good luck to everyone!!

timaximum Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 I have just finished my interview for UMich biostat PhD (via phone, the professor told me they were not supposed to give interviewee notice before making phone call). The professor said they will not meet until next week so I assume the result will come out sometime next week. I am an international applicant so I don't know if this is also true for domestic applicants.
Bayesian1701 Posted February 5, 2018 Author Posted February 5, 2018 I got an email this morning from the DGS at Virginia Tech. They want to set up a call soon. Not sure what it means but I am a "great fit" and they "liked my application". I hope it means I am in the running for their fellowship. I am doing a lot better than I expected. NumStats Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Congrats to those who got either interview or acceptance. Still a quiet week for me so far. The wait is very stressful.
wildUNCfan Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Looks like some decisions for Columbia Masters came in today. Someone also posted a Yale Masters result.

SheldonCopper Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 I doubt this year would follow historical data. Many programs are getting behind.
