(I'm waitlisted and it looks like I'll be trying again.) Advice welcome. The only difference in my application from last year (didn't make it out of the university) to this year (CGS-D), was 2 more peer-reviewed publications in good journals (1 first author). I agree with what others have said. The entire process seems highly based on getting lucky with good reviewers. I wish you the best of luck with your upcoming applications! I just emailed them saying "I wish to know my rank," and they sent my relative ranking, my individual scores, and the number of applicants and awards in my subcommittee. I also had a really fast reply - within 1 day. They appear to be happy to reply and have everything handy. It would be interesting to know if other people also had similar variations between their individual scores, e.g., 7/10 and 5/10. They haven't gotten back to me and it's been a while I don't want to come off as being bothersome, but to hear that they've gotten back to some applicants within a day is very surprising to me. turkergirl
I have so far applied for a SSHRC doctoral award 7 times, and this year I was successful --- finally. Of the 7 times I've applied, I was forwarded to the National Competition 3 times, and waitlisted once. Every one of those "unsuccessful" years were frustrating. One year my score was 7.1 out of 20...which was depressing. Last year, one adjudictor gave me 7.5, while the other gave me 4.1. For my 5th and 6th applications, I hired grant writing specialists, but for the 7th and final time I did it myself, imagining what the pros would be saying as I proofread my Program of Study. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the scoring doesn't always make sense. "Congratulations" to those successful, and, more importantly, for those who weren't awarded a scholarship this time around, don't let it get you down: learn from this experience, and try again next year. Be sure to quote your reference number from your letter, if you haven't done so already. No harm in following up after a week or so.
BibliophileSW
I just found out today that I was wait listed for OGS as well. I'm pretty surprised - several faculty members thought I would get one because I was wait listed for SSHRC. My heart is breaking all over again UGH! DrSeuss
Hi folks, I had a question about accepting the award. Does anyone know if emailing a program officer with a copy of your passport page if sufficient? Is there anything else to do? Thanks.

Depends? my school had me just bring the payment form to my school's awards officer. The fund is established and ready to go- so i never actually contacted SSHRC about any of it (guessing they did so on my behalf). My school had also emailed me the form when they let me know I got SSHRC. (i'll admit what SSHRC sent wasn't that straight forward)

I figure that I'm in a decent spot, and I'll keep hope alive but not hold my breath for it. I am in the same committee! I am also wait listed rank 66! First time applying but it doesn't seem to make much since all of these awards. I made it to the national competition for the Trudeau and waitlisted here. First time applying with a score of 12.5/20 but I guess that is actually pretty decent.

Papaya
Hello previous applicants, I am a new SSHRC doctoral applicant here. I have a question regarding the "letter of appraisal". When I give each of my supervisors the letter of appraisal package for them to complete, should they only place the 1-page completed form in the envelope and discard the documents that I give them to complete the letter, OR should they include everything in the envelope? ...By 'documents' or 'everything' I am talking about the 1 copy of research contribution, the blank letter of appraisal form, program of study) Thank you! Some tips are appreciated!
high_hopes
They only need to send in their letter. You'll submit everything else and you can update your documents after sending a copy to your supervisors or other reference letter writers. Madeofstress
This has probably been said somewhere else in the thread, but if so I can't find it. I'm doing my SSHRC Doctoral app right now, and there doesn't seem to be any place to list service work (student government etc.). What the heck? I never thought I'd miss the CCV from CGS-M apps... It's true. If your volunteer/service work is relevant to your research you can mention it in your program of study. Otherwise, it isn't relevant to how you are evaluated (see http://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/funding-financement/programs-programmes/fellowships/doctoral-doctorat-eng.aspx#a6) so I guess they don't ask for it. Adelaide9216
I don’t think they’ll annonce the winners, that’s usually in April
inthewake
@Adelaide9216 I think @high_hopes meant when will SSHRC publish the results from last year's competition, since this thread was for funding for the 2018-2019 year (though I might be wrong). It's weird that they still have yet to post the list of winners publicly, especially since the results from 2016 were up even before the application deadlines for both doctoral and master's cgs in 2017.
