They seemed to stress that they have a strong relationship with Phoenix Academy, which is a charter school in the area, but they also mentioned they have good connections with rehab facilities and other medical facilities in the area. They require you to spend one semester in an education setting and one semester in a medical setting, so it seems pretty balanced! Side note: They ended up sending out acceptances yesterday evening, and I wasn't one of them, so I doubt I'll be getting accepted. At the info session, they stressed the importance of having very strong LORs and a strong personal statement, along with having around a 3.8 GPA or higher. They didn't mention GRE scores at all, but that's not to say they aren't a factor. It seems to be a super competitive and very strong program!

What Schools Are You Waiting On!?

I also applied to Alabama. They didn't send out acceptances until the first week of April last year! -

That's good to know there's a full range of seasons! I've heard it's beautiful up there, and that there's a lot to do in terms of outdoor activities, which is very exciting! I'm mainly concerned about being snowed in 24/7, so it's good to know the weather doesn't stop people from getting out. -

I just got accepted at Ithaca!!! This is my first acceptance, so I'm so beyond excited and relieved! My first questions would be what's the general atmosphere of both the campus and the speech program? How organized is it, and do the students seem unreasonably stressed? What are the facilities like? Do you know what the externships are like? Second question would be, how do you cope with the weather? Is it gloomy for most of the year? I'm from the south, but I've been to the north east several times, including during snow storms, but I've never been to upstate New York. How is Ithaca/upstate New York different from say Connecticut or Massachusetts in terms of weather? Also how is the school's relationship with Cornell? Is there a rivalry, do they interact, ignore each other? Are Cornell students snobbish/have a superiority complex? Or are they just chill, for lack of a better word? Haha Thank you, and sorry if I'm bombarding you with questions!! Any kind of insight or general advice you have would be super helpful! -

@JcSLP I noticed you got accepted at Ithaca! Congratulations! Did your portal change, or did you just receive a letter in the mail? -

@lindsay359 James Madison sent out a couple of waitlists and rejections today. My status on the portal still says "complete." -

@JcSLP Yep, I'm in the same boat. I also saw those two acceptances and thought it was strange. The only thing I could think of is maybe they are current undergrads, as Ithaca automatically accepts any undergrad of theirs with a 3.7 GPA or higher. -

I'm going a little bit crazy. I'm dying for just some kind of decision from any one of my schools. Hopefully we'll all be hearing a bunch of good news soon! -
@oakfordr No, sorry! I was talking about the University of Maryland. UMass is also one of my top choices, but they haven't sent out any decisions yet. @Rorororosy Congratulations on your acceptance this year! That has to be such a relief.

I'm in the same boat. My top choice school has already sent out two waves of acceptances, so I've just accepted that I'm most likely going to be either wait listed or rejected there.

As someone who did my first year of undergrad at UAB and currently makes pretty frequent trips to Birmingham, I don't find the city dull or boring at all. I don't know what you like to do for fun or what kind of city you currently come from, and Birmingham certainly isn't the most eventful city in the world, but you'd be hard pressed to run out of things to do. I've found that a good bit of UAB students are into outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking, and rock climbing. Birmingham also two very large malls (one outdoor, which has more high-end stores, and one indoor, which has more middle of the road stores), bars, breweries, coffee shops, the BJCC (where major artists hold concerts), diverse restaurants (Middle eastern, Thai, Mediterranean, etc.), record shops, independent book stores, new age shops, etc. etc. UAB also has a considerable amount of international students as well as students with very diverse interests and backgrounds. Again, I can only speak from experience as an undergraduate, but if you have any specific questions about UAB or the Birmingham area, I'd love to answer them. I'd hate to think of anyone passing up a program that's a good fit for them just because the city it's in may appear to be a little dull!

I just submitted mine last week. This year FAFSA is only asking for your 2015 info, not your 2016 for exactly the reason you mentioned. I'm not sure if that's all FAFSA will be asking for or if they're going to let us update it with our 2016 info later if we want. Also, I believe the deadline is March 1st, but different schools may have their own individual deadlines.

I've also heard that it isn't advisable to try to work during graduate school. Some schools may offer you assistantships, fellowships, or the opportunity to apply for scholarships, but you will likely have to rely on loans to cover costs. However, if you applied to any part-time programs, I'm sure that's a different story. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to have a job in that case. Working as a server or bartender would probably offer you flexible hours, depending on where you work, and you would be mostly needed on weekends. Overall, I'd contact each individual school to see if students in the past have held down jobs and if they think it's doable.

I've met Brittany Howard from Alabama Shakes. She came into my work place, and I was lucky enough to be the one taking her order. She seemed really uncomfortable that I recognized her--I had just seen her in concert a day or two prior--even though I was totally chill about it and didn't ask for a picture or autograph or anything. She wasn't unfriendly or anything, but you could just tell she wished I hadn't recognized her. I also met Michelle Branch when she opened for the Goo Goo Dolls in 2011. She was super friendly, but she probably didn't think I was particularly nice because I was super anxious and awkward.

One year a long time ago, there were penguins who didn't wear hats when swimming. This made their mothers livid. "Unacceptable!" Frightened, they screamed, "Bears!" Nobody seemed convinced so instead of going swimming they tried juggling. Their mothers tried everything they thought would teach her a skill. However, she couldn't even make oatmeal without disastrous results. So, the penguins gathered money (obviously) trying to purchase a bear. Towering over them, a grizzly beast danced, devouring all bears with such ferocity that even God enjoyed it. Afterwards, God congratulated the penguins and applauded them. "You did it!" Suddenly, the grizzly beast started dancing vigorously. There was an acromantula nearby. It challenged the preconception that magical mushrooms were magical. Sparkling, the magical mushrooms were spreading throughout town. Nobody with pyromania thought grilled cheese would spontaneously erupt into nine identical squirrels! Nevertheless, the penguins elucidated the benefits of sparkling water from Iceland. Suddenly, Iceland exclaimed, "Enough!!! No more penguins. Kill all of the arcades on Monday because King Arthur suffered from sphenisciphobia." Tragically, everyone forgot lasers cure bug madness, meaning none of them stripped the violet beast of his powerful jaw bones. So while some arms spouted Kool-aid, others chopped nuts. This phenomenon halted commerce. Together twenty-five yellow
