  1. I was asked about EBP, and the spontaneous essay was about an article we had been provided earlier to read and be prepared to discuss.
  2. Hey don't worry yet until there's a reason! I had a low over all GPA 3.1 and a similar major GPA and took one gap year and then was accepted unconditionally!
  3. They're wanting to see something similar to a job! But be sure to include extra things you did in school such as leadership, clubs, events, actual working, honors, conventions you might have attended and research!
  4. Caring and empathy are great strength's to have as an SLP, coming from a second year SLP student! I will say that since I'm currently placed in a school there is very limited amount of creativity that can be accomplished and have free time. I am responsible for 30 student's lesson plans, and tx. Basically I don't have a ton of time to make my sessions personalized. I'm able to do that to some degree but not nearly as much as a private clinic SLP could so keep that in mind when it comes to school SLP's. Also there is a lot of hidden paper work for school SLP's that isn't discussed in class or at most internships!
  5. I would reach out to the new program and inform them that there is one prereq that is not complete and go from there. Most likely you'll be online in the fall or limited access so you theoretically could have more time to do "other" classes.
  6. Your GPA is great! And as long as your GRE score is 300 or higher you're good to go! If you're asked any questions regarding experience talk about your experience in the summer camp and working in the retirement home! Any experience that is unique is good! Coming from a second year, it took me two cycles to get in! I got rejected alot and waitlisted at a few! Don't be discouraged if the first go round is awesome! Just improve and keep trying!
  7. Be prepared to print ALOT, velcro and laminators will be come your best friend if we are back in person come fall! I'm a second year as well and investing in a quality printer and laminator made the first year so much easier because I was able to work some at home and not spend my life in the clinic
  8. 1. I personally don't work during grad school, but out of my cohort of 27, 16 people are working jobs! Strictly weekend jobs though! And no 20 hours a week is totally possible if you're dedicated and stay on top of school work! 2. I was fortunate enough to have more then one offer, and I choose the school with the higher passing rate of Praxis! But if you can, go see the schools and see were you like it better!
  9. I wore a suit! Think dress pants, a nice blouse (something that wont show sweat!) and a jacket! My shirt was a bright color cause I love pops of color! Always bring something to write down things to these interviews, try and look up the peoples names and faces so when they interview you, you have some idea who they are and what they do at the university! Then make sure you are familiar with basic terms like evidence based practice, why you want to do this, and stuff like that! And if you have time! Make some questions for them! Like what makes this department different, or stand out!
  10. 1. So far I LOVE my program!! Everyone is so sweet and helpful! 2. Just rest up and get ready to be super busy! Especially for the first semester, everything is brand new and theres a bit of a learning curve! And if I could go back in time, I would definitely make sure I got all of my GRE stuff squared away with a 300 before November!!!
  11. Hey everyone! I'm a second semester grad school student currently attending The University of Alabama! I know when I was applying (and reapplying) I always found these type of threads helpful! I'm here to answer any questions you might have! Hopefully I can make you feel a little better about the whole process as decisions come out these next few months!!
  12. Not always! I did not have a "high" GPA I had 3.2! BUT I did have over a 300 on the GRE! Once has to be able to out weight the other!
  13. You might be right, but many schools have a hard cut off with the GRE or GPA. One has to significantly outweigh the other if that makes sense!
  14. Get the GRE scores to 150 or higher in both and you'll be fine! Use ASHA edfind to apply to schools that accept a wide range of GPA's!
  15. See if you can get some shadowing experience! But if you knock the GRE out of the park you should be just fine! Use ASHA edfind to find schools that accept that GPA and apply there!
  16. As much as it sucks to say this, I would retake the GRE. I know for a fact at the University of Alabama, they will not take a GRE score under 300 but they will take a student with a low GPA with a gre score of 300 or higher
  17. Use asha edfind! But also just googling state by state! They might not be looking still but I do know that they need cohorts! So every application is favored!
  18. Apply to schools that are pre accreditation! For example Faulkner in Alabama! They are looking for students!
  19. If it's possible for you apply out of state and apply to schools that are candidates for accreditation!! For example Faulkner (in alabama) is pre accreditation currently and looking for students!
  20. Yes! I'm just scared I've forgotten everything I learned!
  21. For the ladies and gentlemen who got in this round first CONGRATS, but second is anyone else freaking out now. Because now I have this sense that I have to relearn everything from day one to even be close to prepared!
  22. Hey I've committed to going to Alabama! I'm not sure if there is a facebook page yet! But if you have any questions about the program feel free to ask! I got my undergrad degree from them as well!
  23. I’m trying to decided what’s the best move for myself. I’m currently on 4 waitlist and am waiting to hear from another university. I got an over all 300 on the Gre with 147 on quant and 152 on verbal and a 3.0 on the writing (unfortunately). I graduated with a 3.5 gpa in CD and a 3.1 overall gpa. I worked for 2 years in an intergrated clinic for students on the spectrum. And have been on two different committees for speech and hearing. On being Delta Zetas national philanthropy aka speech and hearing and another one for Starkey Hearing Foundation. I’m not sure what the best move for myself is. More experience? Higher gre?
  24. Hey guys so do y’all have backup plans and if so what are they!
