  1. Nope. I never heard from Nebraska. I finally emailed them and just said, I haven't heard anything from you, but I already accepted another program.
  2. Late to the party, but I officially accepted a spot at Wake Forest, which means I declined offers elsewhere, so hopefully it opens something up for someone else!
  3. Hello! Anyone else headed to Wake Forest this Fall? I'll be in the Communications MA program. Looking to meet some more folks who will be in W-S this Fall
  4. Just received acceptance to South Carolina's MA in Rhet/Comp (hooray not every English department hated me!). My notice didn't say anything about funding, or another notification about funding to follow. Anyone who's already gotten admitted -- did your offer letter include funding information? Should I just assume I wasn't offered any money?
  5. I've gotten to that point too! The 3 schools I'm still waiting on, maybe with the exception of one, I don't really care about. Even if they were to give me a large stipend, I'd probably still choose one of the ones I've already been accepted to. Which I feel like is crazy, but realistic. It would have to be a VERY large stipend.
  6. @DBear no! I'm going to be gone that week, I would have gotten coffee with you or something.
  7. Accepted to James Madison WRTC MA program with funding offer 2/21.
  8. I was waitlisted for the English MA at Miami of OH. I have funded offers elsewhere, so it is unlikely that I'll stay on this waitlist very long. They mentioned in the email that they often admit deep off the waitlist, so hopefully that is helpful for someone
  9. This is so real. Imposter syndrome is real, but so unfortunate. I'm glad that everyone can talk on the forum as well so that we're not all freaking out the entire time. My partner keeps reminding me "They've accepted you, now they're trying to convince you to attend. They wouldn't have accepted you if you weren't qualified. They wouldn't have accepted you if they didn't want you to attend." That last part has been my mantra lately.
  10. CONGRATS CONGRATS CONGRATS! You're killing it!
  11. @shoestofollow and @RydraWong I don't want to crash the party...but I'm a Badger alum from the English department and have been in Madison for almost 7 years so feel free to PM me if you've got questions about the town or department!
  12. I can second this. I was invited to an official weekend but couldn't attend due to something at work. I contacted them and told them I couldn't come to that because of my work schedule, and asked about other dates. They were very flexible and willing to work with me. They've accepted you and want to meet with you to convince you to attend. But I will say I'm not going to get all the same perks as the official visit day.
  13. I did end up talking to the DGS because we were already talking about visiting, and he told me they send funding emails/letters individually so *hopefully* it's within a few days but sometimes it can be longer. So we'll see when I actually hear back.
  14. I applied under the broad spectrum of "Pop culture studies," with a focus on science fiction and sports, specifically focusing on rhetoric/rhetorical criticism, so take my suggestions with that in mind. One of the best fits I found was University of Texas - Austin's Communication Studies program. I'm visiting in a couple weekends so I'll be able to speak to it more once I talk with some professors. Some other PhD programs you might want to look at: WRAC at Michigan State, there's a professor doing some interesting internet studies stuff at UW Madison, UGA has some folks who do some pop culture studies stuff, Nebraska at Lincoln has a professor who looks into sports, but seems to be willing to work with a wider range, Penn State also has some promise in those fields. But I agree with @DBear, look at some articles, and look at Professor's research interests listed on program websites. That's how I found most of the professors I'm looking at. Have you looked at the PCA/ACA website/group at all? I haven't gotten a membership yet since I'm not currently a student but plan on joining once I'm attending. http://pcaaca.org/
  15. I was told last week Wednesday I'd get a funding letter from Wake Forest's grad school "in the next few days" and I'm still waiting...I'm thinking my address is wrong, or grad school people/schools just live in a different world where time acts differently.
  16. @DBear Thanks! I'm super excited about this one even though there isn't any funding info yet And no... they didn't. Both Wake Forest and UGA both have my status as "pending" online even though they accepted me.
  17. Accepted to Georgia MA, via letter (so old school!) No funding available right now, but the director of graduate studies said they are working to find an assistantship of some sort.
  18. I applied to the MA and haven't heard anything yet either. So we'll see!
  19. Congrats! Although I didn't attend, I lived in Davis from ages 1 to 18. If you have questions about Davis feel free to PM me
  20. Half Baked from Ben and Jerry's is my go-to. Sufficient to say I ate like half of one (I was very close to finishing, and probably would have if I hadn't been typing while eating). I highly recommend it.
  21. Accepted to Wake Forest MA with a TA position on 2/1.
  22. Also- probably a good idea to save the panicking for later. You've got plenty of time to do research and gather materials. Not to detract from the effort it takes to complete applications, but you've got some time.
  23. I'm also waiting on UIUC communications -- I'm hoping to hear from them. But they emailed me on January 15th saying they never recieved my GREs (which I resent/am hoping they told me b/c they liked my app on initial inspection)...so either they review quickly or it will be a little longer. Also I didn't talk to any of my POIs prior to applying so we'll see how I do. I've heard mixed things on it. In sciences and engineering it's encouraged it seems, but I've heard mixed things in Humanities. My LOR writers advised against it actually. Something about not bothering people and letting my writing speak for itself.
  24. From attending the department even as an undergrad I think that's probably true. I was on the Rhetoric/Comm Science side and hardly interacted with folks outside of it. It's one of the larger departments on campus so that doesn't surprise me. Aslo @DBear mostly out of curiosity -- who did you/are you interviewing with?
  25. No official word on funding from UT, but my first semester faculty mentor contacted me to chat/allow me to ask questions. He said I won't be receive funding in the first round (most likely since I was accepted to the MA program and it's normally offered to PhD folks first -- which I definitely understand). UT's at/towards the top of my list so I'm hoping something comes through later. Although I'm sad, I really appreciate how straight forward they're being about funding on their website/in conversation.
