  1. I'm waiting on Boulder too. It seems like last year, they were already sending out decisions by now. Hopefully we'll hear something this week! I'm waiting on all my schools still, though CSULB told me at the interview we should hear something this week too!
  2. My interview was a group one as well. It was pretty mellow and my interviewers did a good job of keeping a calm and relaxed environment. We sat in a row and each end alternated going first and we answered down the line. Some people definitely fed off of other answers, and the responses started to sound the same, so be sure to add some new thoughts or perspectives if the answer you give is going to be similar to another person's. I think it also depends on who you're grouped with as well. My group was mindful of not taking too much time to answer questions and no one went out of their way to show off. I think that really helped with keeping things chill. I've heard of some group interviews being stressful because the group happened to have really strong competition in it. Just be prepared to think on your feet and adjust your game plan based on who is in your group and what questions you get! Good luck!
  3. Maybe it depends on the school? I was sent an interview invitation email on a Saturday afternoon. Not sure if they did that just because it was an interview rather than a final decision though.
  4. Congrats! How exciting!!!
  5. I don't feel like they did, because we were the first group to switch to the writing prompt part. Also, they were very open with answering our questions, and spent a lot of time giving their own insights and thoughts along with the answer itself. I feel like we spend just as much time asking them questions as they did to us! Perhaps there's a pool of questions and they pick whatever questions they want? It's definitely interesting to hear that some groups had more questions than others. I kinda wish we had maybe one more question, just because most of everything that I prepared to use for answers either wasn't relevant or touched upon. I hope we both get good news when they send decisions!
  6. I had my interview with them this morning. Definitely agree that everyone there was so kind and friendly, it really helped calm the nerves! It was surprising to me that they only asked 3 questions, and they weren't questions I thought they would ask. I felt I gave a strong interview, but we'll see!
  7. I'm glad I didn't spend a ton of time preparing either, for that same reason. I took some time to collect my thoughts for potential questions, but nothing extreme. The questions I ended up getting were a little unexpected, but I feel I still gave strong responses. I guess I'll find out how they felt about it in a few weeks.
  8. Negative for CSUF as well
  9. Glad I'm not the only one thinking of a dress! I already own a blazer, so it'd be so much easier (and cheaper!) to buy a dress and some low heel shoes that go with it. Totally in the same boat as you regarding the rain...I'm thinking I'm just going to wear the low heels and walk extra carefully.
  10. It is. My email said that they resent messages because students were having difficulties opening the attachments, but this was the first email I've gotten from them. Not sure if they give invites in rounds or not, but I wish you luck!
  11. Finally a school contacts me! I have an interview with CSULB next Saturday! So much to prepare for in so little time...
  12. CONGRATS!!! I'm so happy for you! I'm hoping all this good news will rub off on me
  13. @k_kismet I'm in the same boat as you! My boyfriend recently moved for a full-time job to Denver, and really likes the lifestyle out there. CU Boulder is for him, but if I were to end up out there long-term, the school gives me an opportunity to make plenty of connections in the Denver area. We'll see what happens!
  14. I think it's a fun way to pass the time! Having sent in my last app yesterday, it's waiting game from here on out. HOPES: Be admitted to a program! I'd like to imagine that someone wants me DREAMS: Not sure yet...still torn between if I want to stay local or go out of state. Maybe that decision will be made for me GUESSES: I don't want to jinx myself! I know my GPA and experiences are good, but my GRE scores are not as strong. Plus, Cali is so competitive and CU gets a lot of applicants as well...
  15. Long Beach does not use CSDCAS. I applied this cycle and they only wanted CSU Mentor and the department application. Imunster is correct, Fullerton requires CSDCAS and CSU Mentor, but does not have a department application.
  16. Just to add to and clarify this, CSUF requires that you have the prerequisites done before admission, so you'd be entering a post-baccalaureate program first, and then reapplying for the master's program. Also, California is known for being incredibly competitive for grad schools, and since CSUF doesn't take the GRE, they have high GPA standards and rarely looks at anyone with below a 3.7 GPA for their grad school.
  17. Definitely email them or visit them if you guys are still in session. One of mine is a professor, researcher, and co-director of our clinic, and is always incredibly busy and difficult to reach...he told me to send him a reminder email with a urgent notification in the title or something so that he knows it is a priority email.
  18. I just finished that process! Condensing my original letter to 500 words was definitely painful, but I'm really happy that I managed to condense everything without cutting too much. Like what JcSLP said, what the experience is and how you can relate it to your skills and SLP goals for sure plays a role in how effective it will ultimately be. I think it could work as long as you explain at some point why this experience is important and helpful as a future SLP.
  19. Yeah, I was pretty shocked when I saw the requirement, and I emailed the coordinator about it...he told me that he recommended that at least two of the letters be from professors. It wasn't too difficult to get an additional letter from the preschool I work at, so it worked out alright for me.
  20. You're welcome! I totally understand where you're coming from! I wish their collection had a little more variety as far as essays go, but it's always good to have some kind of example to guide you.
  21. @plume Thanks! No rush, whenever you have time! I just got done with work and am waiting for class now. That's interesting to know. I'm definitely more interested in the pediatric side of SLP, so their clinic's focus is a plus for me. Yes! Mountains for the win! When I was out there, I fell in love with the Rockies...my boyfriend is so lucky to be able to see them every day! I felt a pretty relaxed vibe as well, which would be a nice change from the go-go-go of California. Hey, that's where I am! For sure! Every class I've had has always reiterated how competitive it is here, and that just to apply to CSUF, you need to have a minimum 3.7 GPA, and even then, you should be aiming for that 4.0! It's pretty stressful for sure, but I've worked hard as far as trying to get experience and getting to know key professors on the grad committee! What schools are you looking at?
  22. Unfortunately they are in a binder at our Communicative Disorders Peer Mentor Center and not available online. The majority of the ones I read focused on a single experience or person (especially multicultural experience) and then included information regarding academic strengths. Like I said, They were all in a very traditional, essay-like format and weren't particularly interesting or outstanding to me...but they did get acceptances to either CSUF or other nearby universities.
  23. Hi @plume! Thanks so much for the info! CU Boulder is the only out of state school I'm applying to because my boyfriend recently moved to Denver. It's encouraging to hear that they may prefer applicants from WICHE states! California is just so competitive and I'm scared about not getting in anywhere! I'd love the specifics if you have the time! Would you say they're pretty balanced as far as school and medical setting prep goes? I know sometimes schools have better connections for one setting over another. You're so lucky to be in the area! What would you say your favorite part of living there is?
  24. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to visit the campus when I was in Denver a few months back, so....can anyone give me some insight into CU Boulder's program or their impressions of it? Pros, cons? Who else is applying there??? All the forum threads that I've found are at least a couple years old, so I thought I'd make a fresh thread. Bonus points on any insight into how many accepted WICHE WRGP applicants actually get in-state tuition (admissions wasn't too helpful in their response to that)! I'm not too sure about my chances, but I'd still love to learn more about the program. TIA!
  25. I think it depends on what kind of message you want your letter to send. Perhaps as an out-of-fielder, it might be good to give some indication as to where you got the inspiration to do SLP and how you used that inspiration to push yourself to get more experience in the field. It might make a good intro paragraph and also segues right into the meat of your letter, your job experiences.
