  1. @Lucy22 Just another rejection from another school. No news yet from my top choice and the place I interviewed. The rejection really stung, although expected and I'm superdown about it today. I feel like doing a PhD this year is slipping through my fingers more and more each day. Objectively, it doesn't make sense because the POI probably already made the decision anyway. But well, it's almost April so it shouldn't take too long. I just wake up everyday feeling hopeful (I'm 13 hrs ahead in time, so decisions should be made when I'm sleeping), and then nothing. Today I woke up to the rejection of the other school. It's controlling my life and I'm being obsessive. I just want it to finish. An admit or rejection or waitlist, I want to know what I"m up to ;_; *end rant* How have you been holding up?
  2. yaay another rejection. ANd I rejected my only offer. Only 2 places that didn't notify me yet (and I only interviewed at one). FML.
  3. Yaay another rejection and no news from the program I interviewed at. so far for 'things moving quick' and it taking 'no more than a couple of weeks max' - it's been over a month.
  4. I emailed them last friday, they were still in the process of deciding at that point in time.
  5. Interesting. I chatted with my POI over a month ago after which he arranged bunch of things. After that things have been silent.
  6. I actually spoke about this with some grad students during some talk I had with them. First, don't expect professors, classmates, etc. to think that you know all - you come there to learn, that's the goal of a PhD. It's OK to say you don't know something, or you're not familiar with something - you're not expected to be an expert in your fiel dyet. You've been selected on your potential and passion for a field. For me, it just helps to think about it as a learning opportunity, nothing more nothing less. My PhD is an ability to grow in an area I love and I just want to surround me with the right people that will help me to grow as a researcher. All the profs started out in the same position as you. Most other grad students have felt probably the same as you (except for the overconfident ones).
  7. I'm in the same boat. I framed it that after giving it some thought I'm not attending for personal reasons and that I'm grateful for the offer etc.
  8. @Pugislife THIS. Feeling you. I'm also in a different time zone. Everytime I wake up at night I'm checking my phone. Currently finishing my thesis and some other projects so I'm busy but meh. Just want to move on with my life. I only got one interview - but with my top choice. But they haven't made decision yet - and it's killing me :') PICK ME PLZ. And let me know fast. Every email notification is terrifying at the moment.
  9. This - and its not even because I have another offer, but it's just because I don't feel like its a good fit at this point in my life.
  10. I don't think you're feeling anything weird. This whole application process is like an emotional rollercoaster. I tried beforehand not to get too invested in a specific school or choice. I've seen many comments around here that people visited their top choice and it just didn't feel right - and the other way around. I got accepted in my top choice for my Master's (Europe works differently) but it was one bad ride for 2 years due to a lot of departmental politics that I was not aware of and some misrepresentation of resources (aka there's a grad student lab - but there are no participants, so yeah...). Focus on the things that are great about the school you are attending rather than the things you have 'lost'.
  11. Where you from and where did you go? I'm from Amsterdam NL but am now in Seoul Korea
  12. tea leaf
  13. This is why I ended up moving even to a different country :')
  14. good guy
  15. @Lucy22 I do! I have very broad interests haha. But now I just spend my time writing articles/proposals (for publication yaay) and learning new statistics :') Need to keep my head in the research game one way or another.
  16. @Lucy22 They didn't tell me ;_; Don't know if there even is one haha.
  17. When reading this, it seems like you already made your decision and you're just looking for others to confirm this. Follow your gut - there's always next year. I personally don't believe in a linear path to life (although I'm also actively wandering around the globe a bit but OK). You can always volunteer in a lab for the time being.
  18. @Lucy22 We'd be having so much food if I lived around Emailed the admission administrative assistant (aka the person they put on the webpage as whom to contact) who told me they're not done with decisions yet basically and told me to contact my POI if I need to know now. So I think I'll just wait a little bit more.
  19. I emailed to the grad office - no decisions yet. But at least no rejection... I asked for a sort of timeline or when to expect outcomes, but no answer to that :')
  20. I'm treating myself coffee and nice food every day to keep up with the waiting game and to be productive. My bankaccount is not happy, but I am.
  21. There are still two places I haven't even heard from :') (although don't expect them to make a move at all - assuming rejection here). I'm very tempted to drop the interview school an email (although to the ad comm coordinator) when I can expect results (like for real people!). Thinking about it - I may do it now lol - can't stand it anymore. At the same time - you may take it as a red flag if someone is highly disorganized by not knowing whether you're still interested in his/her lab or not (but again, if the person has a good excuse and does awesome research.. I don't know).
  22. Somehow I read your username as Gordon Ramsay, but OK. Yeah, I'm not in that situation yet. I don't know. At least my situation seems less 'messy' than yours Seems like the uni has some issues there maybe.
  23. This makes me sad. RIP
