    I'm so sorry—this totally sucks and I really hate that profs can do this. Did you turn down other offers already? Would you be up for relocating with this professor to the program that they would be going to? When you talk with them I would be really upfront about how this puts you in a really bad position and see what they can do for you. Was this by any chance ucla?

    Those programs have low match rates and poor reputations.

    That situation is common where funding comes from a fellowship from the grad school or the department (as opposed to the individual PI). So whether a PI gets a 'slot' is dependent on other people. No way to tell how likely it is that you'll gain admission.

    I'm not sure what the timeline is for Master's programs, so have you already applied to Villanova?

    Is your goal to stop at a masters or do you want to use it as a stepping stone to a phd?

    Maybe, but it's not like you'll be competing against people without any questions at all—you'll be competing against people who have memorized their questions and can work them into the natural flow of conversation. That said, I definitely recommend writing down notes about the interviews the night or day after just to keep everything in memory.

    Eh, just memorize it. It's so competitive don't take the risk that someone will interpret you as rude or unprepared.

    Did you only apply to 3 PhD programs? That's a big no—most successful applicants apply to 10+.

    It sometimes does happen, but not super super often, and when it does it almost always happens organically. I think in your case it will come across as a little forced or awkward, like you're just volunteering there to shore up your chances of admission.

    Why are you assuming you know what's best for her career? She is the one who's actually in this field. Clinical psych is incredibly competitive in the US, so related (or 'stepping stone') positions like working in a lab are also not easy to acquire. Even if she could legally work in the US, licensing requirements would likely make it impossible for her to practice as a therapist.

    The APA doesn't accredit Canadian programs anymore, but if you're set on a research career that shouldn't be too big of an issue. Also, I'm thinking that the life coach experience might actually be looked down upon. I'm curious as to what other people think about that.

    If they don't post on their website whether or not they're taking students, you should feel free to email them expressing interest in their work and inquiring as to whether they are accepting students. This is usually done in August/September. I wouldn't ask to volunteer in the lab.

    Yeah notes would be weird and it's completely normal to interview with multiple faculty members.

    This is awesome!! One suggestion--can you make the second and third figures' x-axis start earlier (like in November) to be able to see the invites continuously? Also, would you be willing to share your code for the scraping piece of the project?

    The interview date for FSU is the second week of Jan so I think they're all out. Unless different labs are doing different interview days, but that seems weird.

    For clinical I've heard 5 interviews for every one spot.
