I had heard that Villanova has nice funding. Congratulations! I am assuming it is the top pick for now.

I applied to Harvard for an American history PhD. AFAIK, all of the acceptances have already gone out.

That's great! It's nice that you have a funded option that will give you mobility to switch schools for the PhD.

Got my first waitlist from Loyola Chicago. Honestly, not sure if I would accept if I was being accepted, given the fact that they're not a ranked program and they're primarily an American history school.

I guess this is a lesson not to count your chickens before they hatch. It appears I was wait listed for the Harvard History and East Asian Languages program. As I am now on two wait lists, there is now lots of waiting to do apparently.

    Hey guys,
I'm a third-year in a PhD program and I lurk on these forums every year...
Quick advice - as you turn down offers, please remember that if you've done your legwork properly, these are probably big names in your field that you will continue to see and cite for years to come. I turned down an offer three years ago and continue to email that professor regularly. In fact, she reviewed my comps list for me!
All this is to say, please keep in mind that academia is a small small world. If you liked these people enough to apply to work with them, you probably want to be able to come back to them over the years.

Good luck to everyone! You're almost there!

It's also worth mentioning that it may be too late to undo this, and it's possible they may have already admitted their second choice. In the future, I would be really careful about making demands like this!

Cornell’s adcom met yesterday. A prospective visit day has already been confirmed. Students are getting the final list of admits on Friday.

This advice only applies once you've been admitted. At this stage in the month I wouldn't be pre-emptively declining offers from schools that you haven't heard from at all.

I meant to post this earlier, but I got the notification while on my way to see Hamilton.... I got my second acceptance! I was accepted into the MA to PhD program in American history at SLU. I emailed the program director to see if a switch into the early modern history program was possible and will probably ask my current faculty mentor (who does some very interesting work) about possibly working with me for a masters.
I honestly didn't expect to have to weigh two options, but I'm so glad I have to!

That statement is all I needed to know about you.  I'm above engaging in the musings of seemingly self-important trolls.  @T Qi Avoid his advice.  Good luck, T Qi, and I hope it works out and you two get into the same program!
